Why Nicholas Hoult Lost Superman Role to David Corenswet: He's a ‘More Controlled Actor' and Had ‘Really Good' Chemistry With Another Lois Lane
'A lot of time casting is finding the right person for the right role,' Gunn said. 'Most people [auditioning for Superman] weren't doing anything wrong, they just didn't fit how I envisioned this Superman to be. Nicholas Hoult auditioned. He's a great actor. Some might say he's better than David in certain ways, but he just didn't fit the role. That's why he didn't get that.'

'As much as you can transform yourself as a person, Nicholas is just more controlled,' the writer-director continued. 'One of the things we were doing was mixing and matching Lois and Clark actors when we were auditioning them. I wanted to make sure we had that chemistry right. The truth is Nicholas, who is a more controlled actor, had a really good chemistry with another Lois who was less controlled. They were opposites. David had better chemistry with Rachel [Brosnahan] because she's a very controlled actor and Davis is a little bit more loose. That creates a different dynamism on screen.'
It appears Gunn's script paired a looser Superman with a more controlled Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, hence Hoult missed out on the Man of Steel but was seen as the perfect actor to bring Lex to life in Gunn's new DC Universe.
Hoult is no stranger to going out for big superhero roles. He auditioned to play Batman in Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' but lost the role to Robert Pattinson. Speaking to GQ España in 2023, Hoult admitted: 'I don't think I could have fit as well into the world that Matt created as Rob did.'
'When they tell you for the first time that it's not you, it's painful, but then you have to accept it as normality,' Hoult continued. 'I think that's probably a strength of mine as an actor as well. I can accept that they didn't cast me pretty well and when I see the chosen actor doing a great job, and I enjoy it, and it's good, I'm like, 'oh yeah, they made the right choice. They knew what they were doing.' So it's not like I'm sitting there like, 'Oh, I'm not going to watch it now.' It's a good movie and Rob is brilliant in it.'

Netflix's rebooted ‘Queer Eye' to return for its tenth – and final – season
Cue the waterworks again – the Fab Five are soon leaving us for good. Netflix announced on Wednesday that 'Queer Eye' – the life improvement and makeover show that sees five LGBTQ+ advisors lending their expertise to help guide individuals toward a better and more well-rounded place – is ending after its upcoming tenth season. Antoni Porowski, Jeremiah Brent, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo and Tan France – officially known as the Fab Five – help a guest on each episode in the areas of food, design, grooming, culture and style, respectively. With the exception of Brent, the group has been with the show for the entire 10-season run. (Brent replaced Bobby Berk beginning in Season 9 as the cast's design expert.) Like its predecessor 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,' which ran from 2003 to 2007, the rebooted series has become known for showcasing heartfelt transformations for worthy subjects, often with emotional results. The new series shed the 'Straight' restriction and featured a wide range of heroes receiving help from show. Since it began in 2018, 'Queer Eye' has racked up 11 Primetime Emmy Awards. According to a release from Netflix, the final season will 'celebrate the show's legacy and impact, spotlighting heroes from the nation's capital.' Production on Season 10 began this week in Washington, D.C., which was the site of last month's World Pride festivities.

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Refreshingly Ditches an Annoying Blockbuster Trend
If you're headed to see Jurassic World Rebirth over the long Fourth of July weekend, here's some good news: The movie is breezy, fast-paced, and just barely over two hours long. Technically, the movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 14 minutes, but it feels much quicker than that. (Compare this against the last several Jurassic movies, which pushed things much closer to 2.5 hours.) But in addition to being a self-contained, tightly-scripted adventure movie, Jurassic World Rebirth also avoids a very frustrating tend among modern blockbusters. Without spoiling everything about the beginning and middle of the movie, you may want to know that the ending of the film has an actual ending and there's no post-credits scene at World Rebirth utterly ditches the post-credits scene trend and instead leaves the events of the movie to speak for themselves. Because the film is all about a team of mercenaries — led by Scarlett Johansson's Zora — trying to retrieve dinosaur DNA to create life-saving drugs, the ending of the movie leaves us with the remaining members of the team, escaping to safety. Yes, there is a family who is in jeopardy in the movie (classic Jurassic plot device), and yes, rest assured, they are all fine by the movie's conclusion. If anyone is worried about Jurassic World Rebirth being too dark or too downbeat, the truth is this is one of the more uplifting installments in the franchise. The dinosaur thrills are appropriately nail-biting, but this isn't actually a horror movie. If there was never another sequel to the Jurassic franchise after Rebirth, that's okay. The movie doesn't need a sequel, doesn't have a post-credits sequence setting anything up, and is also smartly light on too many references to the previous movies. If there's any nostalgia in this film, it's simply that it's an exciting dinosaur flick, full of wonder, action, and a storyline that knows when it's time to wrap things up.'Jurassic World Rebirth' Refreshingly Ditches an Annoying Blockbuster Trend first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 2, 2025

Here's How Much Experts Say 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Will Make at the Box Office
The summer 2025 blockbuster season is upon us. After the warm-ups of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, F1: The Movie, and Thunderbolts*, things are about to truly kick off as Jurassic World Rebirth hits theatres in the middle of the week. This is the seventh Jurassic World film overall. Rebirth is already receiving mixed reviews from critics who have seen it early. But, when you look at the average Jurassic film's critical reception, a 50/50 chance of it being good isn't so bad. But, how much money will it make? According to projections from Deadline, Jurassic World Rebirth could have a massive Fourth of July opening weekend, and, because it's opening in various global markets, could net around $260 million. If that happens, it could get close to being the best opening weekend of any movie this year. As of now, A Minecraft Movie holds that spot, when it made $313.2 million on its opening weekend on April than F1: The Movie, Scarlett Johansson's Jurassic World Rebirth has little competition over the long holiday. However, all of that changes next week, when Superman hits theaters for early screenings on July 8 and all theaters on July 12. July will be a very interesting month for summer movies. While F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Superman all duke it out in the early weeks of July, the month will end with the next big Marvel gamble, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. From a pure entertainment level, all of these movies offer something great for moviegoers. But, which one will end up on top will be a question we can only answer by the end of the How Much Experts Say 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Will Make at the Box Office first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 1, 2025
