Mets place Starling Marte on injured list with bruised right knee, activate Jesse Winker
Marte and Winker play the outfield, but have been used primarily as the Mets' designated hitter.
'It's funny how things work,' manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'You gain one, you lose one.'
Also on Tuesday, the Mets selected the contract of right-hander Alex Carrillo from Triple-A Syracuse and designated pitcher Zach Pop for assignment.
Marte had seven hits in his last three games, including three on Sunday as the starting left fielder against the Yankees. The 36-year-old is batting .270 with four homers and 20 RBIs in 58 games.
The Mets hope to have Marte back after the All-Star break.
'It was something he was dealing with during spring training and a little bit of last year,' Mendoza said. 'We're going to let it calm down. Talking with him today, he's in a pretty good spot.'
Winker, activated from the 60-day injured list, last played on May 4. The left fielder is batting .239 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 24 games.

'He's a big bat, especially from the left side,' Mendoza said. 'You know what you're going to get at the plate. I'm excited to have him back.'
Carrillo, signed by the Mets out of the Venezuelan Winter League, has a blistering fastball that has been clocked at 100 mph.
'It's a pretty cool story,' Mendoza said. 'A guy who was in Independent ball last year. I remember getting a call from someone in Venezuela that I know, telling me about this guy. We got him in the organization, and he's in the big leagues now. We're going to give him a good look here.'

Two players plead guilty to match-fixing over yellow cards in Australian soccer's A-League
SYDNEY (AP) — Two professional players admitted in court Thursday to engaging in betting corruption after they were paid by criminals to earn yellow cards during games in Australian soccer's A-League. Former Macarthur Bulls captain Ulises Davila and midfielders Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis were charged in May 2024 with manipulating yellow cards during games in 2023 and 2024. Davila, 33, allegedly acted as the contact between the southwest Sydney club's players and a criminal group in Colombia, organizing for the yellow cards to occur during particular games. Baccus, 33, and Lewis, 27, were allegedly paid up to 10,000 Australian dollars ($6,550) by Davila to deliberately try to receive the referee-issued cautions for foul play. The midfielders pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to engaging in conduct that corrupts the betting outcome of an event. A second charge of participating in a criminal group was withdrawn. Lewis had previously pleaded not guilty to both charges, but reversed his plea to one of the charges after negotiating with prosecutors. The pair will face sentencing in September. Former Olympic wrestler and MMA star Ben Askren recovering after double lung transplant
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former Olympic wrestler and MMA star Ben Askren, who has been hospitalized in Wisconsin after a severe case of pneumonia, said in a post on social media Wednesday that he had undergone a double lung transplant and is in recovery. Askren said during the Instagram video that he recalls very little of what happened over a monthlong stretch from late May through the first two days of July. His wife, Amy, had said in a series of social media posts that Askren was put on a ventilator in June and placed on the donor list for a lung transplant on June 24. 'No recollection, zero idea, no idea what happened,' Askren said of most of the past six weeks. 'I just read through my wife's journal. It's like a movie. It's ridiculous. I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds.' Askren said he lost about 50 pounds during the 45-day stretch. 'The thing that was most impeccable to me was all the love I felt,' Askren said. 'It was almost like I got to have my own funeral.' The 40-year-old Askren was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but has lived primarily in Wisconsin, where he runs a youth wrestling academy. He won back-to-back NCAA titles at Missouri and competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics for the U.S. before moving into MMA, where he fought for Bellator and ONE Championship before moving into the UFC. Askren retired from MMA after a loss to Demian Maia in October 2019. He had a record of 19-2 with one no contest. Askren made a brief return to combat sports in April 2021, when he fought social media star Jake Paul in a boxing match.
