Search continues for missing Turkiye national off Pulau Yu
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) Terengganu said in a statement today that the current search is focused on a sector covering 73.5 square nautical miles.
The statement also noted that today's operation, which began at 7am, involved both aerial and sea assets belonging to Maritime Malaysia and the Marine Police.
"In addition, Maritime Malaysia divers are expected to carry out dives today," the statement added.
Earlier, three Turkiye men — yacht captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52, Ates Demiroren, 42, and Demirkol, 52 — had embarked on a sailing expedition to return to their home country on Monday (July 28).
However, on Tuesday evening (July 29), the yacht was reportedly hit by a storm and capsized in the waters near Pulau Yu.
Demiroren was rescued by local fishermen at noon on Thursday, while Volkan Ata was found safe later that same night by another local fishing boat after having swum for over 40 hours at sea. — BERNAMA

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Search And Rescue (SAR) operation for Turkish national Eser Demirkol, who went missing after the yacht Daisy capsized in the waters off Pulau Yu, entered its fifth day today. Terengganu Maritime director, Captain Maritin Hamiludin Che Awang, said the operation resumed at 9am with assistance from nine members of the Malaysian Maritime Diving Squadron. He said the clear weather and relatively calm sea conditions allowed the diving team to expand the search area. "Yesterday, the Malaysian Maritime diving team surveyed the location of the yacht using Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) equipment, but no positive clues or findings were found. "The area of the search area yesterday was about 500 square meters at a position of 5.12 nautical miles from Pulau Yu," he said in a statement today. (Facebook pic) KUALA TERENGGANU : Two Turkish nationals are missing after a sailing yacht capsized in stormy waters near Pulau Yu on Tuesday, while another was rescued after drifting at sea for 25 hours. Terengganu maritime director Hamiludin Che Awang said the yacht, Daisy, had departed Pulau Tioman, Pahang, bound for Pattani, Thailand, when it overturned about 30 nautical miles from Pulau Yu. 'One victim, Ates Demiroren, was rescued by a local tugboat crew, while the yacht's captain and another man remain unaccounted for,' he said in a statement tonight. A search and rescue operation was activated at 3pm today, with patrol vessel Perkasa 48 deployed to the site. Those with information are urged to contact the Terengganu maritime operations centre at 013-7464357. Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said the men aboard the yacht were on a cross-continent voyage from Malaysia to Turkey. He also identified the yacht captain as Ahmed Volkan Ata and the missing crew member as Eser Demirkol. He said before the incident, Ahmed brought the Daisy from Port Jackson Bay, Sydney, Australia and docked in Kuantan Port, Pahang, where he met up with the other two crew members, from Krabi, Thailand, and Singapore. 'On July 28, at 5pm, the Daisy started its voyage for the first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand,' he said in a statement. He also said Ates is reported to be in a weak condition and is being treated at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.
