Mizoram celebrates 39th ‘Remna Ni' with message of peace & devpt
At the event organised by the general headquarters of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex Mizo student body, chief minister Lalduhoma hoisted the 'Remna Ni flag' followed by a solemn rendition of 'Ro Min Relsak Ang Che (Be Our Counsellor)' by the 1st Battalion Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) Brass Band.
In his address, Lalduhoma extended heartfelt greetings to Zo people across the globe and underscored that peace is the bedrock of development, stability and progress, while unrest remains a major obstacle to all.
"My govt shall leave no stone unturned to preserve and promote peace in our state," he said. Highlighting Mizoram's progress, the CM said the state is poised for major infrastructural development, particularly through improved connectivity between the southern and northern regions.
He called for a collective commitment to peaceful coexistence, regardless of differences, and reminded the audience that Mizo nationalism is not rooted in hostility, but in unity and inclusive progress.
True nationalism, he said, uplifts others and builds togetherness.
The chief minister also stressed the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship with the central govt — regardless of which party is in power — for the greater good and welfare of Mizoram. "Politics must be guided by mutual respect. Let us uphold dignity in public discourse and refrain from divisive or inflammatory rhetoric," he said.
"Let peace and harmony prevail in our society and in our neighbourhoods. Let us rekindle the spirit of communal harmony handed down to us by our ancestors. Let our streets once again become places of peace," he added.
In his remarks, MZP president Pu H Lalthianghlima emphasised that Remna Ni belongs to the people and is a celebration meant to unite citizens across political, social and generational lines.

MZP warns NHIDCL over poor highway condition in Mizoram
1 2 3 4 5 6 Aizawl: As public anger mounts over the extremely poor condition of NH-306 and NH-06, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex Mizo student body, on Tuesday issued a warning to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL). It accused the agency of consistently failing to maintain quality standards in road construction across Mizoram. In a resolution passed during its 59th federal council meeting, the student body expressed dissatisfaction with NHIDCL's performance, stating that its works were repeatedly found "not up to the mark." The MZP resolved to continue its efforts to ensure that the agency improves both the quality and pace of its works. In a statement issued in Aizawl, the MZP criticised NHIDCL executive director Virendra Jakhar for his prolonged absence from duty during a time when key highway stretches of Mizoram's economic lifeline were in a severely damaged state. The student body said it attempted to meet Jakhar on July 17 but was informed he was on leave, reportedly until Aug 7. "It is incomprehensible that the seniormost NHIDCL official remains on leave while the crucial highways remain nearly impassable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Storage running out on your Mac? Space Lens will show you why MacPaw Read More Undo His indifference amounts to a direct insult to the people of Mizoram," the MZP said, adding that Jakhar should not be allowed to return to Mizoram, especially since his deputation term has ended. The students' body has objected to any extension of his tenure. The roads in question are vital for the transport of food and essential commodities in and out of Mizoram. On March 26, the state PWD officially handed over two key stretches — Bilkhawthlir to Kolasib (Km 70–95) and Kawnpui/Khamrang (Km 118–133) — to NHIDCL. Given the current state of disrepair, the MZP expressed shock that the NHIDCL executive director could remain unresponsive to the plight of daily commuters, especially truckers. The student body has demanded immediate repair of the worst-affected road sections within this month and vowed to closely monitor NHIDCL's response and take further steps, if necessary.

MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo's body brought to Aizawl from Delhi, last rites on Wednesday
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, leaders of the Luangmual unit of Young Mizo Association (YMA) said. The body of the two-time legislator from Dampa arrived at the Lengpui airport around 1.30 pm, and will reach his home at Luangmual neighbourhood in the western part of Aizawl in the evening, they said. Aizawl, July 22 (PTI) The mortal remains of Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo, who died at a hospital in Delhi, were brought to Aizawl on Tuesday afternoon. Sailo, whose performance as opposition member in the assembly was praised by many, died at Max Superspeciality Hospital in Delhi around 9 pm on Monday after battling with complicated ailments, including scrub typhus and pneumonia, for nearly a month. The 65-year-old MNF leader was flown to Delhi on June 29 following a fever. Although he initially showed signs of improvement, his condition deteriorated a few days ago and became worse on Sunday, following which he was put on ventilator support, family sources said. Born in 1960, Sailo joined MNF and went underground when he was only 16. He actively took part in the secessionist movement, spearheaded by the MNF led by late Laldenga, for 20 years till the underground group signed the historic Mizo peace accord with the Centre in June 1986. He contested the assembly polls in 2018 and got elected from Dampa in Mamit district, defeating his nearest opponent, Congress nominee Lalrobiaka, by a margin of 1,657 votes. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the last assembly polls, held in November 2023. Sailo held many important posts in the MNF and was a member of the national core committee of the party till his last breath. The MNF described Sailo's death as 'the collapse of one of the big pillars of the party'. Governor VK Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and state Congress president Lal Thanzara mourned his death. 'I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pu Lalrintluanga Sailo. His dedicated contributions and tireless service to the state of Mizoram and its people will be fondly remembered,' the governor said in a social media post. Lalduhoma said he was deeply shocked by the sudden demise of Sailo, whom he hailed as a diligent person, orator and good debater. The CM said he had instructed officers and staff of the Mizoram House in Delhi to do whatever is required to assist Sailo's family. PTI CORR SOM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
