UAE Economy Set to Grow 4.6% in 2025 as Non-Oil Sectors Drive Momentum
According to the latest Gulf Economic Update , released by the World Bank based on data through June 1, non-oil industries will remain the engine of growth across the UAE, expanding by 4.9% in 2025. This performance reflects the country's ongoing efforts to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on hydrocarbons.
The wider GCC region is also expected to rebound, with growth forecast at 3.2% in 2025 and rising to 4.5% in 2026. The report highlights a regional economic uptick from 0.3% in 2023 to 1.7% in 2024, fueled by strong private consumption, increased investment, and structural reforms.
GCC countries are navigating global headwinds, including uncertainties around trade and the risk of a broader economic slowdown. The World Bank stresses the need for accelerated reform to bolster regional trade and economic diversification.
Safaa El Tayeb El-Kogali, World Bank Director for the GCC, praised the bloc's resilience and emphasized the importance of 'strategic fiscal policies, targeted investments, and a strong focus on innovation and job creation.'
The report also explores the impact of fiscal policy on stability, noting that public spending has helped shield GCC economies during downturns. A one-unit rise in fiscal spending can lift non-oil output by up to 0.45 units, underscoring the importance of smart budget strategies amid fluctuating oil prices.

Emirates Road is getting a Dhs750 million upgrade
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced a vital project to develop and enhance Emirates Road, transforming the key route into a faster, smoother, and more efficient corridor. The development will significantly reduce travel time by up to 45% for commuters traveling from Ras Al Khaimah, through Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah, to Dubai, and vice versa. The project is set to cost 750 million dirhams. Roadworks are set to begin in September 2025 and will take two years to complete. Here's what to expect The Emirates Road development project will include expanding the road from three to five lanes in each direction over a stretch of 25km. It will begin at Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah and end in Umm Al Quwain. The expansion will increase the road's capacity to approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour – a 65% increase. Interchange 7 on Emirates Road will also receive a comprehensive upgrade with the construction of six directional bridges. At a combined capacity, it will be able to handle 13,200 vehicles per hour. It will also include the creation of collector roads on both sides of Emirates Road. * Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project * Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure stated that the project is part of the ministry's efforts to develop practical and sustainable solutions to traffic congestion. Dubai Municipality Completes AED190 Million Greening Projects to Enhance Urban Quality of Life
Dubai Municipality has successfully completed a series of large-scale landscaping and afforestation projects across key intersections and roadways during the first half of 2025. With a total investment of AED190 million, the initiative covered over three million square metres and aligns with the Green Dubai initiative and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Major sites include the intersection of Al Khail Road with Latifa bint Hamdan Street, Sheikh Rashid Street to Al Mina Road, and the entry point from Abu Dhabi on Sheikh Zayed Road. More than 300,000 trees and seedlings were planted, along with 222,500 square metres of ground cover and flowers. Smart irrigation systems were installed, using underground pumps and IoT-based remote monitoring to ensure efficient water use and sustainable upkeep. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated the projects are part of a long-term strategy to enhance Dubai's urban identity and offer a vibrant and healthy living environment: 'Our aim is to reinforce Dubai's distinctive urban and aesthetic identity and solidify its position as a leading sustainable global city' The landscape designs reflect a balance between sustainability and aesthetic value. Native and ornamental species—such as sidr, ghaf, neem, chorisia, and bougainvillaea—were used to strengthen Dubai's environmental character. Public entry points also received unified visual elements, including decorative fencing and colour-changing vertical lights inspired by Arab architecture. Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency, emphasized the focus on using diverse species suited to the local climate and maintaining consistency in design: 'The landscaping projects were developed in accordance with specific urban and environmental criteria…' As of Q1 2025, Dubai manages 5.5 million trees and seedlings and maintains nearly 9 million square metres of green space. These efforts support Dubai's Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and aim to position the emirate as one of the most liveable and environmentally conscious cities globally.
