All four work at a garment company in Tirupur and had come to Coimbatore by train, to visit Sathish Kumar's younger brother who works in a textile mill at Thennampalayam in Coimbatore district.
On reaching the city, they tried to reach Sathish Kumar's younger brother by phone, but he did not answer their call. The four who were under the influence of alcohol, were then roaming at the railway station. A while later they walked at least 30 metres away from the station to relieve themselves.
They suddenly threw stones at the signal box and went on to place large boulders on the track.
The incident came to light when railway authorities checked after they did not receive signal from the box, prompting them to stop the Cheran express train for a while on Saturday night. Officials promptly removed four large boulders from the track and rectified the signal box.
The four accused were identified through CCTV camera footage and subsequently arrested from the station premises. They were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.

Tight Security Blanket Ahead of Shahi Sandal
Nagpur: The city police have formulated a comprehensive security enforcement plan in areas like Tajbagh, Sakkardara, and other locations for the Shahi Sandal on Tuesday. With RPF officials expecting an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 devotees on Monday via train, authorities are on their toes to ensure public safety and smooth crowd management. Inspector Gaurav Gawande of Government Railway Police (GRP) told TOI that special security was in place at the station. "Over 30 additional personnel have been deployed specifically for the event. We have also stationed two Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams and two sniffer dogs for explosive detection and preventive checks," he said. Beyond the railway premises, the city police are taking extensive precautions. Over 1000 city police personnel and 200 traffic cops have been deployed across strategic locations and major junctions leading to the event venue. Checkpoints have been set up to monitor the movement of vehicles and maintain crowd flow. In addition to the GRP's deployment of 130 personnel, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has also mobilised 130 staff members. The combined force is patrolling platforms, entry and exit points, and passenger waiting areas. Two fire brigade vehicles have also been positioned on standby in case of emergencies. Officials have also coordinated with intelligence and surveillance teams to monitor real-time developments using CCTV feeds across high-traffic zones. Given the religious significance and size of the gathering, the law enforcement agencies are taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the event proceeds peacefully and without incident.
