U20 Worlds silver medallist wrestler gets 4-year doping ban
NEW DELHI: A former U20 World Championships finalist wrestler and a junior Nationals medallist boxer have been sanctioned by the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) after traces of prohibited substances were found in their respective urine samples.
Delhi's Nitika, last year's U20 Worlds silver medallist in the women's 62kg, has been banned for four years by the Nada's anti-doping disciplinary panel (ADDP) after returning positive for androgenic steroids (AAS). She was tested out-of-competition by the Nada's dope control officers. Her ban period retrospectively kicked off from May 28, 2024.
Nitika, who is a Delhi University (DU) student, was considered a strong force in the 62kg division, having secured a gold medal at the U23 Asian Championships in Jordan last year. She had also won a gold in the juniors category (U20) at another Asian meet in Thailand.

Uttarakhand CM orders crackdown on misuse of govt schemes, FIRs registered
Taking strong action against the misuse of government welfare schemes, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to identify and act against individuals who have fraudulently availed benefits using fake documents. Acting on his instructions, two separate FIRs have been registered at Kotwali Nagar and Thana Rajpur police stations in Dehradun. The action follows complaints submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun by the District Supply Officer and the Ayushman Bharat Department. Investigations revealed that a number of individuals with annual incomes exceeding ₹5 lakh had obtained ration cards meant for economically weaker sections. These fake ration cards were then used to illegally generate Ayushman cards and claim subsidised health services under the scheme. Upon verification by the Supply Department, several ration cards were found to be fake, prompting swift legal action. CM Dhami has instructed that no ineligible person be spared and that strict legal action be taken to prevent the abuse of public welfare resources. Earlier on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami flagged off the first group of pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Tanakpur, marking the official commencement of the sacred journey. The group of devotees arrived in Tanakpur on Friday night and was welcomed by the Chief Minister at the Tourist Rest House (TRC). He personally interacted with the pilgrims before sending them off with best wishes. While speaking to ANI, CM Dhami said, "The group for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has moved forward from its main stop, Tanakpur. The group of devotees arrived here last night... All arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, a smooth journey, and no inconveniences." Highlighting the challenges of the yatra, CM Dhami stated that the route remains vulnerable to landslides and harsh weather conditions, but the state government and associated corporations have ensured that all necessary support is in place. "This is an extremely challenging journey,... and routes prone to landslides, but despite that, all facilities have been provided by our state corporation... The atmosphere is very enthusiastic. All the pilgrims are full of zeal... I wish everyone a successful journey," the CM added. On June 20, after a five-year gap, the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Sikkim also recommenced with the ceremonial flagging off of the first batch of pilgrims by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur from the Nathula Pass. The batch comprises 33 pilgrims, accompanied by two nodal officers and one doctor from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), making a total of 36 members. The resumption of this spiritual journey marks a significant moment of international cooperation and cultural continuity between India and China.

Rishabh Pant creates record, first Asian wicketkeeper-batter to score 2,000 runs in SENA countries
Birmingham [UK], July 5 (ANI): Rishabh Pant made history on Saturday, becoming the first Asian wicketkeeper-batter to score 2,000 runs as a specialist keeper in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia (SENA) countries. Pant achieved this milestone during the second Test at Birmingham against England. After managing 25 runs in the first innings, Pant delivered an entertaining, counter-attacking and crucial 65 in 58 balls, with eight fours and three sixes. Now in 28 SENA Tests, Pant has scored 2,023 runs at an average of 41.28, with six centuries and six fifties in 52 innings and a best score of 159*. In this series, Pant is the second-highest run-getter, with 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.00 and a strike rate of 81.81, with two centuries and a fifty. His best score is 134. Coming to the match, England once again opted to field first. After getting KL Rahul (2) early, a 80-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal (87 in 107 balls, with 13 fours) and Karun Nair (31 in 50 balls, with five fours) helped India gain some footing in the match. India 'A' men's hockey team leaves for Netherlands for upcoming tour of Europe
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 5 (ANI): The India 'A' Men's Hockey team left for Eindhoven, Netherlands on Saturday morning for the Tour of Europe, scheduled from July 8 to July 20, 2025. Led by Captain Sanjay and Vice-Captain Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, India 'A' will play eight matches in total across three cities in Europe. While India A will play two matches each against Ireland, France, and the Netherlands in Eindhoven (Netherlands), they will play one match each against England and Belgium in Amstelveen (Netherlands) and Antwerp (Belgium), respectively, as per a press release from Hockey India. These matches are expected to test the depth and readiness of players as the national setup looks to build a stronger talent pool for the Indian senior team. The India 'A' Captain, Sanjay, said, 'This tour will be a good testing ground for us to know our strengths and weaknesses. We have a good mix of seasoned players and young players, and the tour will provide us with strong competition to assess where they stand. This kind of international exposure will also help us strengthen our main team in the future and create a good bench strength in the long run.' Vice-Captain Moirangthem added, 'The tour will help the team understand the different dynamics and intensity of playing against top European teams in Europe. This exposure will also help some of the younger players experience hockey at a much different pace than they are used to in India. We hope this exposure will help us and the next generation of players improve in the long run.' With this tour, Hockey India aims to bolster the talent pool for the Indian Men's national team and provide international match time to the next generation of Indian hockey stars.
