KPop Demon Hunters star says chart success doesn't feel real
The film, about a fictional girl band who live a double life defending humanity from a supernatural threat, has become Netflix's most-watched animated film ever since its release in June.
Upbeat anthem Golden, one of the standout songs from its soundtrack, leapt three places to take the number one spot in the Official UK Singles Chart from Justin Bieber in this week's top 40.
Ejae, who co-wrote and performed the track, tells BBC Newsbeat she has been "honoured" by its success.
"It's like I'm surfing for the first time and a big wave just came through," she says.
"And I'm trying my best to get through it."
Ejae provides the singing voice of Rumi, one-third of girl band HUNTR/X.
As well as performing some of the soundtrack's songs, she also co-wrote Your Idol, How It's Done and the Hunter's Mantra.
She tells Newsbeat ending up on the final recordings was an "organic process".
"I've been singing all the demos while writing the songs," she says.
"I guess we got used to me singing it. And they were like: 'Hey, do you want to sing?'
"I was just like: 'Why not?'"
Ejae says the outpouring of support has been "overwhelming".
She gained almost 100,000 Instagram followers in a month and says she's been getting used to the spotlight instead of "working behind the scenes".
The KPop Demon Hunters crew knew Golden was a "banger" when they wrote it, she says, but had no idea how huge it would become.
But Ejae has an idea as to why the song has captured so many fans.
"I think we're in a time right now where we need hope and people are wanting that," she says.
"And this song is very hopeful, it just lifts your voice and it's a very powerful song.
"I think maybe that's what people need right now."
According to the Official Charts Company, it's the first K-pop single to top the UK chart since PSY's Gangnam Style in 2012.
Its editor Carl Smith tells Newsbeat it's a "sign of how popular K-pop is right now".
Golden is performed in the film by girl band HUNTR/X, consisting of Rumi, Mira and Zoey.
They face off against demon boyband the Saja Boys - whose single Your Idol climbed to number 10 in this week's chart.
Carl says both songs are "amazing pop songs with great melodies" and the film also allows fans to "visualise their new favourite band".
The last time an animated film soundtrack reached number one was when single We Don't Talk About Bruno, from Disney's Encanto, held the top spot for seven weeks in early 2022.
Carl thinks Golden could have similar staying power.
"It could possibly be the song of the summer," he says.
"I think its popularity transcends generations."
Katy, who runs K-pop site Hallyu Doing, tells Newsbeat the success of KPop Demon Hunters is exciting for UK fans.
"I'm seeing people who are not K-pop fans that have seen the movie and are now looking into K-pop artists for real that they want to go and see," she says.
Elsewhere in the charts, Drake and Central Cee scored the week's highest new entry with their collab Which One landing at number four.
And music from Ozzy Osbourne, whose funeral was held in Birmingham this week, continued to climb the charts after his death.
Black Sabbath's Paranoid climbed 12 places to the top 20, while Ozzy's solo track Crazy Train hit number 25 - its highest-ever position in the UK.

Comedian Sam Pang will return as host for the third consecutive year, while rock legend Jimmy Barnes, singer-songwriter Richard Marx and Guy Sebastian are all performing tonight. There's also a new award on offer tonight – the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter. Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar, which tells the story of wellness influencer and conwoman Belle Gibson, has received a massive eight nominations, including Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Lead Actress in a Drama. Channel 7's red carpet coverage, hosted by Sonia Kruger and Chris Brown, will air at 7pm (AEST), followed by the live awards ceremony at 7.30pm. On the red carpet for Yahoo tonight will be Senior Entertainment Reporter Lachlan Guertin and Senior Video Producer Caitie Browne and they'll be bringing you exclusive insights throughout. Follow along below as we bring you regular updates throughout the day. What food is served at the Logies? While we know there's plenty of drinks had at the Logies, what is the food like? Well according to Travel Guides stars Karly Fisher and Bri Auty, it certainly matches the occasion. The pair, who are hoping their show wins Best Lifestyle Program for the fourth year in a row, revealed to Yahoo what was on the menu last year. "I had gold-encrusted lamb. [Bri] had fish, which then I think I ate as well,' Karly recalls. 'And then there was dessert. I've actually got a video of me eating them all. I did a kind of mukbang on my phone, eating all these desserts. They were stunning. 'There was a lava cake, but not a Domino's lava cake. It was like a proper, bougie lava cake. I will say the food was what I was probably most looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. It was so yummy.' Julia Morris practices Gold Logie victory kiss Gold Logie nominee Julia Morris has given us a glimpse of her dress for the night and has practised kissing the Gold Logie award in the process. Morris has been pretty active on her socials, and yesterday also revealed a late-night manicure in her preparations for the big day. And while taking to your feet with an electric file after a cocktail isn't recommended, Morris later revealed it was all a success. Take a look at her outfit for the night below. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Julia Morris (@ladyjuliamorris) Who has the most Logies nominations? The ABC has again dominated this year's Logies when it comes to nominations. The public broadcaster has a total of 44 nominations. Commercial network Nine is the closet competition with 23 (up to 32 if you include streaming platform Stan which it owns). Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar about wellness influencer and conwoman Belle Gibson has an impressive eight nominations, although they are spread across just four awards. The streaming giant's Territory isn't far behind with seven nominations tonight. The ABC's Fisk has five, while Binge's Colin From Accounts and the ABC's Return To Paradise have four each. Netflix's Heartbreak High has three. Who is the favourite to win the Gold Logie? If you voted in our poll shared earlier, you would have seen Lynne McGranger is the clear favourite to win the Gold Logie tonight among Yahoo readers, with 37 per cent of your believing she'll take the top award. Nineteen per cent of you think Ally Langdon will win it, while 17 per cent say Poh Ling Yeow. And that's the way the bookmakers are going, with Sportsbet paying $1.37 for a McGranger win. They have Langdon at $5 and Hamish Blake at $8.50. Poh Ling Yeow is further back at $13.00 What time do stars start their day for the Logies? While you'll be turning on your TV set in the evening, those involved are getting ready long before you get comfy. And while some celebs' days will be busier than others, Gold Logie nominee Lynne McGranger has offered an insight into how gruelling Sunday can be. "I think I've got to do some early morning television… I'll probably do hair and makeup, and then I'll probably have a couple of hours off," she told Yahoo Lifestyle. "I'll be in makeup again I think at around lunchtime for the Logies, and then I have to be ready to go at 2.30pm – what sort of a ridiculous hour is that?" "But because I'm presenting, I've got to stay nice. I can't be necking the champagne, otherwise I'll get on stage and I'll be dribbling. So I just have to pace myself and be sensible for once in my life." Sam Pang reveals this year's Logies jokes already had a run Sam Pang is returning for his third consecutive year hosting the Logies. The comedian has been a huge hit in the top gig thanks to his brutal yet hilarious approach, with no-one across Australian TV safe when it comes to his jokes. But there's plenty of work that goes into his presenting, with Pang telling Ross and Russ on 3AW Breakfast he scripted this year's jokes and trialled them at a small comedy club in Melbourne. "I got up for twenty minutes and trialled some stuff," he said, saying some material was cut based on the reaction of the audience. 'The only thing you don't want to do is get up there on Sunday night and say a joke and at the end of it they didn't even know it was a joke." Last year Pang took aim at Channel Seven's internal issues despite the network broadcasting the awards. Who do you think will win the Gold Logie? Right. Now we've run you through the Gold Logie nominees, who do you think will win it? Have your say in our poll below. Gold Logie nominee: Hamish Blake Rounding out this year's Gold Logie nominees is Hamish Blake, who has openly discouraged viewers from voting for him as the only man in the group. The comedian and radio host is nominated for Lego Masters, and previously won in both 2012 and 2022. 2025 marks his sixth nomination. How many Logies awards are there? We have a new award tonight in the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter, with a total of 23 awards up for grabs tonight. With so many awards, tonight's proceedings could easily stretch well beyond the scheduled time, as it has done in the past. Last year, the Gold Logie was only handed out close to midnight. So buckle in for a long night. Gold Logie nominee: Sonia Kruger Sonia Kruger is one of only two Gold Logie nominees this year who have already won the award, having taken home the trophy in 2023. This year, she's nominated for her hosting roles on The Voice, Dancing With The Stars, and last year's Logies red carpet coverage. View this post on Instagram A post shared by soniakruger (@soniakruger) Gold Logie nominee: Lisa Millar ABC star Lisa Millar is the only Gold Logie nominee this year who has never previously been nominated in any category at the awards show. The veteran journalist is nominated for her work on Back Roads, Muster Dogs, and News Breakfast, which she left in August 2024. 'I cannot believe that this kid who had a big dream to make it in this industry is now being nominated for the Gold Logie, the biggest award of them all,' she told Yahoo Lifestyle. 'I don't go to the Logies very often, I've only been to the Logies three times in my life, and last year was one of them. If you had told me, 'Hey, next year you're going to be at the Logies and you're going to be a Gold Logie nominee', I would've laughed at you.' Gold Logie nominee: Ally Langdon In addition to her Gold Logie nomination, Ally Langdon is nominated for the inaugural Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter. After taking home the Silver Logie for Best News or Public Affairs Presenter last year, the A Current Affair admitted to Yahoo Lifestyle she wasn't quite sure how to campaign for her first-ever Gold Logie nomination. 'My approach last year with the Silver was I just ignored it, and like if you looked on my socials, you wouldn't have even known. But I don't know if I'm going to be able to get away with that this time round,' she shared. 'I feel like I'm here, I'm the face of A Current Affair, but I very much feel like that's who I'm representing for this. It's not sort of 'Ally for the Gold', it's 'ACA for the Gold', and I just happen to sit in the chair.' Can I still vote for the Logies? There's still time to get your vote in for the 2025 Logies. The Most Popular Presenter, Most Popular New Talent, and Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter categories will close at 7.30pm (AEST) tonight, and the Gold Logie votes will stay open until 10.30pm. What happened at the Logies last year? There was a first Gold Logie win for veteran presenter Larry Emdur 12 months ago, and as promised, he recognised the moment with a tattoo on his backside the following morning live on The Morning Show. The other big winners on the night were 15-year-old Felix Cameron who won two of Boy Swallows Universe's five Logies, while Utopia won all three comedy awards. Cameron won the hearts of the nation when he broke down in tears during his first acceptance speech which he'd written down on a piece of paper because his phone was broken. Relive other moments from the night via our 2024 Logies live blog here. Gold Logie nominee: Poh Ling Yeow Fourteen years after being nominated for Most Popular New Female Talent, Poh Ling Yeow is nominated for the coveted Gold Logie this year. Fellow MasterChef judge Sofia Levin is also nominated for Most Popular New Talent, while the reality show itself is up for Best Competition Reality Program. Poh told Yahoo Lifestyle that while she felt extremely honoured to be nominated for the Gold Logie, she's especially thrilled it's alongside five other women. 'It feels really amazing to be part of this historical moment,' she said. 'And I think also, quite a few of the ladies are middle-aged, which I think is amazing, because I think this is our moment to shine.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Poh Ling Yeow (@pohlingyeow) Julia Morris' swipe after 14-year first for Gold Logie Six of this year's seven Gold Logie nominees are women and if we're honest, it's about time. You have to go back 14 years to 2011 for female nominees to outweigh the men. And even then, Karl Stefanovic claimed the award on the night. In the 11 awards handed out since, only three have been won by women, with tonight a better chance than any to add to that number. Nominee Julia Morris couldn't help but take a swipe at the lack of representation for women this week, joking Hamish Blake's inclusion among the nominees was a win for men. "The girls keep getting all the opportunities," she sarcastically told KIIS' Will and Woody. "Women just kept getting so many opportunities. So yes, I think it's time that male voices were heard actually. Someone needs to say something." Gold Logie nominee: Julia Morris This year marks the fourth time Julia Morris has been nominated for the Gold Logie, making her one of the most nominated TV personalities to have never won. While she was up for the award alongside her I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! co-host Robert Irwin last year, she's riding solo this time around. Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle at the nominations event in June, Julia joked that she has 'a lot of strategies in place' to finally take it out this year. 'My campaign strategy is to drive mum's Uber, I drive children to various locations,' she remarked. 'Unpacking the dishwasher is definitely part of my strategy. And what else have I got to do? Oh, keep the pool filled up with the water, because if it goes beneath, then the filter won't work.' Gold Logie nominee: Lynne McGranger Lynne McGranger is a first-time Gold Logie nominee this year and is also up for Best Lead Actress in a Drama. The Home and Away veteran, who recently quit the soap opera after 33 years playing Irene Roberts, was previously nominated for the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actress in 2023, but lost out to Fisk's Kitty Flanagan. 'It's extraordinary. My worlds are colliding with Irene's storyline winding up, doing The Grandparents Club, touring that nationally, and then the Gold Logie. Worlds have collided, so I'm just hanging on like grim death at the moment,' she told Yahoo Lifestyle last week. 'What I'm most proud of is that a woman my age can be nominated for her first Gold Logie ever, and win, lose, or draw, I feel like it's a win. It's a win for women everywhere, and women of any age need never feel invisible again.' Who is nominated for the Gold Logie? This year marks the first time in the award show's history that there's been this many women nominated for the Gold Logie, scoring six out of the seven nominations. TV presenters Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Poh Ling Yeow, Sonia Kruger, and Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger are all up for the top award alongside Lego Masters host Hamish Blake, the sole male nominee. Someone needs to say something." Six of this year's seven Gold Logie nominees are women and if we're honest, it's about time. Marvel confirms a major Avengers actor is joining Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Brand New Day along with a returning villain
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Tom Holland is going to be in very good company in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as seasoned MCU star Mark Ruffalo has joined the official cast as The Hulk. Ruffalo has been part of the superhero franchise for 14 years, starring in all the Avengers movies and fan-favorite titles like Thor: Ragnarok. Last time we saw his Bruce Banner was in Disney Plus' TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which starred his cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany). The Hulk is not the only Marvel character returning for the upcoming Spidey movie, which is now filming in Scotland. Along with the previously announced addition of Jon Bernthal's The Punisher to the cast, Marvel announced that Michael Mando is set to reprise his role of the Scorpion. The villain first debuted in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he was arrested by the FBI after the Staten Island ferry incident and swore vengeance against Spider-Man. It seems like he will make good on his promise in the new movie. This cast announcement comes on the back of film set leaks that might just have confirmed Mister Negative as the film's villain. A bystander on the streets of Glasgow spotted a heavy-duty armored truck with a red demon mark on its side that resembles the logo of the Inner Demons. A recent glimpse behind the scenes also hinted at D-list villains forming part of the film's rogues' gallery. Tom Holland's new Spider-Man suit was partially revealed this week too, giving us some serious Sam Raimi vibes. As filming continues, we're hoping to get even more details about the movie, which has yet to reveal an official plot. We expect the story to follow on from the events of the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw Peter Parker's existence erased from everyone's minds. Plunged back into anonymity, the New York-based superhero will focus, as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige explained recently, on "street-level crime as opposed to world-ending events." Brand New Day also appears to be set before Avengers: Doomsday. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are set to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, with Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink joining the cast in an undisclosed role. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will land in cinemas on July 31, 2026. For more, here is our complete guide to upcoming Marvel movies and Marvel Phase 6. Solve the daily Crossword

Exhibition in Stroud celebrates legacy of pioneering blacksmith Alan Evans
A STROUD exhibition is celebrating the legacy of a renowned artist-blacksmith. The Museum in the Park is hosting Earth Fire Iron: Alan Evans and the New Iron Age, from Saturday, September 6 to Sunday, November 2. The exhibition will honour the work of Alan Evans (1952–2023) and the blacksmithing movement he helped inspire from the 1980s. It will explore the impact on Alan Evans of his upbringing as part of the Whiteway colony, a radical Tolstoyan community near Stroud set up in 1898. Abigail Large, exhibitions officer at the Museum in the Park, said: "This exhibition is shining a light on the exciting and powerful work produced by artist-blacksmiths. "We are excited to be able to show it in Stroud – along with hands-on learning opportunities for local schools and inspiring events for everyone." Alan's first major commission aged 29 was for the Treasury Gates, St Paul's Cathedral in 1980-81. The St Paul's maquette will be on show, together with a range of work by Alan and his contemporaries from Britain and the continent. There will also be work by young blacksmiths from around the UK including Melissa Cole, Sam Pearce and Lisa Wisdom.
