Barman arrested in Dublin accused of possessing €1mill in crime proceeds
A barman faces trial for deceiving multiple individuals in Ireland and possessing €1 million in crime proceeds following a Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) probe.
The funds were allegedly held from 2010 to 2013 in multiple bank accounts under various names.
Kevin McMahon, 51, with an address at Calle Vincente Inglada, Alicante, Spain, faced 130 charges when he appeared at Dublin District Court today on 131 charges.
There were 21 charges under Section 6 of the Theft and Fraud Act for deception of 18 people about their financial interests at an unknown location in the State.

He also had 110 money laundering section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 for possessing, handling or acquiring sums ranging from €1,000 to €300,025 in several banks or financial institutions with accounts under different names.
GNECB Detective Ciaran Ronan told Judge Michele Finan that he arrested the accused this morning in Dublin after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) authorised charging him.
The DPP has directed trial on indictment in the Circuit Court and that Mr McMahon could be sent forward for sentencing on a signed plea should that arise.
Judge Finan raised the issue of providing disclosure to the defence.
Solicitor Michael French told the court that prosecutors must prepare a book of evidence for his client.
It must be served before granting a trial order.
Judge Finan also noted that a co-accused was expected to come before the court on June 30, and she adjourned Mr McMahon's case to that date.
Mr McMahon remained silent during the hearing but was granted legal aid.
There was no objection to bail, but the judge warned that he must get court approval to change his address.

The fatal road traffic collision occurred on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Carndonagh, Co Donegal on Wednesday. Shortly before 6.30pm, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision involving a car and a van on the R240. Gardaí have confirmed that a female passenger, a young child, has died. The female driver of the car, a male front seat passenger and a female child who was a rear passenger were removed from the scene and taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where they all remain in a serious condition. No other injuries have been reported at this time. Reacting to the news, local 100% Redress councillor Joy Beard said the community is devastated by the tragedy. "I am struggling to find the words,' she told the Irish Independent. "Tragically a young girl has lost her life in a devastating crash in Carrowmore, Glentogher. "It's the kind of news that stops you in your tracks and breaks your heart in two. "My thoughts and prayers are with the family and everyone, all who knew and loved her. "A second child, a woman, and a man are fighting for their lives in hospital. "Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. "There are no words. Just heartbreak," said Cllr Beard. Donegal Sinn Féin TD Pádraig MacLochlainn said the news of another tragedy on Donegal roads was "heartbreaking". "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young girl who has died outside Carndonagh and all of those who are seriously injured." The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions in place. The road remained closed overnight. A Garda spokesperson said, 'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. 'Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm this evening Wednesday 2nd July, 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Two men due in court following €31m drugs seizure in west Cork
Two men are due to appear in court on Thursday after gardaí received directions to charge them in connection with a foiled attempt to smuggle almost €31 million worth of drugs into Ireland. The two men, a 40-year-old from Glasgow in Scotland and a 31-year-old German from Bavaria, were arrested in Courtmacsherry in west Cork on Tuesday after gardaí stopped a van with 440kg of cocaine. The arrests were part of an investigation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau into the activities of an international organised crime group involved in drug smuggling. The two men were brought to Bandon Garda station for questioning about the huge cocaine haul which consisted of 18 vacuum packed bales of cocaine, each weighing 25kg. READ MORE The men were held under drugs trafficking legislation which allows garda hold suspects for seven days. However, the gardaí received directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on Wednesday night to charge both men. They are due to be brought to Bandon District Court this Thursday morning where they will be charged with a series of drug offences relating to the Courtmacsherry seizure. As part of the same operation, two other men were apprehended aboard a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) off Waterford by a Maritime Interdiction Team from the Naval Service on Tuesday. They are continuing to be questioned by gardaí about the drugs haul. The two men, a 44-year-old Englishman from Cornwall and a 36-year-old-Scot from Aberdeenshire, were taken aboard the LE WB Yeats after the boarding party stopped them. The two men were then conveyed to the naval base at Haulbowline where they were handed over to gardaí who arrested them and brought them to Togher Garda station for questioning. Both men are detained under drugs trafficking legislation and can be detained for up to seven days before they must be charged in relation to the drugs or released without charge. Garda investigations into the drug smuggling operation are continuing with officers liaising with their colleagues in the UK in a bid to find out more about the gang behind the operation. The drugs seizure was a Joint Task Force operation involving several specialist Garda units as well Revenue's customs and excise officers and members of the Irish Naval Service.

Conor McGregor appeal: Court to ask DPP to consider possible perjury concerning fresh evidence
The Court of Appeal is referring to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), material concerning fresh evidence filed on behalf of Conor McGregor, for consideration of possible perjury. The mixed martial arts fighter's lawyers this week withdrew an application to admit fresh evidence for his appeal against a High Court civil jury finding in favour of Nikita Hand. Ms Hand had sued him over allegedly raping her in Dublin's Beacon Hotel on December 9th, 2018. In sworn evidence, Samantha O'Reilly, a neighbour of Ms Hand's in late 2018, claimed that, from her home, she witnessed a physical altercation between Ms Hand and her then partner Stephen Redmond in their home on the night of December 9th/10th, 2018. Mr McGregor claimed this and other evidence bolstered his denial of responsibility for bruising on the body of Ms Hand noted by a doctor on December 10th, 2018. Ms Hand described the evidence as 'lies' and said Mr Redmond never assaulted her during their relationship. READ MORE The three-judge appeal court reserved judgment on Wednesday on Mr McGregor's appeal over the civil jury finding he assaulted Ms Hand in the hotel, for which it awarded her €250,000 damages. Mr McGregor denied raping Ms Hand and claimed they had consensual and 'vigorous' sex. Ms Hand's senior counsel, John Gordon, asked the court to refer the fresh evidence matter to the DPP for consideration of possible perjury, including possible inducement by Mr McGregor of perjury. After considering material in chambers, Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy said the court intended to refer the matter to the DPP and would inform the parties what materials would be forwarded.
