Oman has been named the most affordable country to live in across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for 2025, according to the latest Cost of Living Index released by data platform Numbeo.
The Sultanate stands out for its notably low overall living costs and rental prices, providing a significantly more budget-friendly lifestyle compared to its Gulf neighbors.
Oman Leads GCC in Affordability
Numbeo's 2025 report highlights Oman as the top choice for families and individuals looking for a balance between quality of life and manageable expenses. The estimated monthly cost of living for a family of four in Oman is Dh9,597.6 (OMR 1,004.7 and approx.
USD 2,611.54), excluding rent, while a single person's monthly costs average Dh2,773.2 (OMR 290.3 and approx. USD 755.56).
When compared to the UAE, Oman's cost of living is 26.5 percent lower, and rent is a staggering 71.7 percent cheaper on average. This affordability has made Oman an attractive destination for those seeking financial relief without compromising living standards.
Ranking the GCC: From Cheapest to Most Expensive
Numbeo's index also ranks other GCC countries by affordability, showing a clear cost gradient:
Oman: Lowest overall living costs and rent, making it ideal for families and individuals.
Bahrain: Manama comes second with monthly family expenses at Dh10,496.8 (BHD 1,076.1) and Dh2,968.5 (BHD 304.3) for singles. Living here is 25.3% cheaper than Dubai, with rent nearly 65% lower.
Kuwait: Kuwait City sees family costs around Dh11,105.1 (KWD 923.0) and Dh3,012.5 (KWD 250.4) for individuals. The city offers a 27% lower cost of living compared to Dubai, with rents averaging 61% less.
Qatar: Doha's family expenses stand at Dh11,716.9 (QAR 11,655.5) and individual costs at Dh3,276.7 (QAR 3,259.5), 20.7% cheaper than Dubai, with rent 38.3% lower.
Saudi Arabia: Riyadh has monthly family costs of Dh12,167.9 (SAR 12,424.0) and Dh3,378.5 (SAR 3,449.6) for singles. It offers a 19.9% lower cost of living than Dubai and rents 55.2% lower.
United Arab Emirates: The UAE remains the most expensive GCC country. Dubai tops with Dh14,765 for a family and Dh4,242.5 for singles monthly. Abu Dhabi is somewhat cheaper, with family costs at Dh12,403.3 and Dh3,550.4 for individuals. Rent in Abu Dhabi is about 34.3% less than in Dubai but still significantly higher than other GCC capitals.
Why This Matters
The report's findings offer vital insights for expatriates, investors, and policymakers.

Families and workers seeking affordable living options now see Oman as the most budget-friendly Gulf destination, potentially influencing migration and job market dynamics.
The data also reflects the widening gap between the UAE's booming economy and its Gulf neighbors, where cost pressures remain lower but the quality of life can be equally satisfying.

Trump's BRICS warning to India adds new twist to trade deal

US President Donald Trump's threat to impose new tariffs on India over its participation in the BRICS forum puts New Delhi in a tough position as it races to finalize a favorable trade deal with the US. Trump said Tuesday that India could face an additional 10% tariff alongside other members of BRICS — a bloc of emerging economies he has labeled 'Anti-American.' The remarks came just a day after the US leader said he was close to finalizing a trade deal that New Delhi hopes would give it reprieve from 26% reciprocal tariffs. The latest threat by the US president followed a two-day BRICS summit in Brazil, in which leaders agreed on a joint statement that criticized trade-distorting tariffs. But while Brazil and South Africa have blasted Trump separately for his comments, India has refrained from responding publicly, a sign that it's treading a fine line in maintaining its relationship with Washington. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Officials in New Delhi say they're not overly alarmed by Trump's latest threats for now. The US leader's view is that BRICS is seeking to undermine the dominance of the US dollar, which is not India's goal, the officials said, asking not to be identified because the discussions are private. India doesn't support moves for a single BRICS currency, and any participation in local currency trade arrangements are aimed solely at reducing risks, they said. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry didn't respond to an email seeking comment. Senior Indian diplomat P Kumaran said at a press briefing on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had 'no discussion' on Trump's tariff threats during the Indian leader's state visit there. 'We didn't have an opportunity to discuss that.' India would be banking on its strategic value and neutral currency stance to be treated differently by Washington. 'Trump is unhappy with some BRICS members who have been talking about an alternate reserve currency,' said Mohan Kumar, a former Indian envoy and lead negotiator at the World Trade Organization, who now teaches at OP Jindal Global University. 'India has time and again differentiated between local currency trade and de-dollarization and therefore doesn't fall in that category.' India has been cultivated by several US administrations over the years as a strategic partner and key regional counterweight to an increasingly assertive China. As recently as April, US Vice President JD Vance remarked that the fate of the 21st century 'is going to be determined by the strength of the United States and India partnership.' Those ties have recently come under strain, though, after Trump took credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May. Modi has pushed back at Trump's claims he used trade as a bargaining tool to secure a truce. The Trump administration has also made overtures to Islamabad, including its powerful army chief, in the aftermath of the conflict, a source of concern in New Delhi. You Might Also Like: Trump says all BRICS nations, including India, to face additional 10% tariff Much is riding on the success of the India-US trade deal, which both countries have pledged to finalize by the fall of this year. Shashi Tharoor, an opposition lawmaker who has led India's diplomatic outreach since the Pakistan conflict, said a trade deal would signify the strong ties between the two countries. 'The relationship with the US is in a good shape,' he said in an interview in London on Tuesday. If the terms of the trade deal are agreed, 'that will be a very, very healthy sign.' After months of talks, Indian trade negotiators have put forward their best offer to the Trump administration and are now awaiting a response. The latest tariff threats from Trump may also be a bargaining tool to secure more concessions from New Delhi. Trump has previously threatened to slap 100% levies on BRICS if they ditch the dollar in bilateral trade. Vodafone Idea slides 57% in a year; analysts warn of further downside below Rs 6.30

Vodafone Idea shares , down over 57% in the past year, continue to reflect a bearish trend as technical analysts highlight weak momentum and lack of investor interest. The stock was trading around Rs 7.26 on Wednesday, hovering near the lower end of its range, with no signs of a sustained recovery. Hardik Matalia, Derivatives Analyst at Choice Broking, said the stock remains entrenched in a long-term downtrend and has failed to attract meaningful investor participation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo 'Despite minor recoveries, Vodafone Idea has failed to show any sustained strength. The broader bias remains negative,' said Hardik Matalia, Derivatives Analyst at Choice Broking. 'A breakdown below Rs 6.30 could trigger further downside, while a sustainable move above Rs 10.50 is required to reverse sentiment.' He added that the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 55.47 but has shown signs of weakness due to a negative crossover. The stock also trades below its long-term exponential moving averages, and any breach below short-term averages could reinforce bearish momentum. Short-term traders, he noted, should watch for a breakdown below Rs 7 before considering fresh shorting. For any buying opportunity, a strong reversal supported by volume would be essential. Live Events Drumil Vithlani, Technical Research Analyst at Bonanza Portfolio, echoed the bearish view. 'Vodafone Idea continues to trade within a falling channel pattern. It recently faced rejection near Rs 7.80, which reinforces that level as strong resistance,' he said. 'Unless the stock breaks out of this range decisively, the outlook will remain weak.' Immediate support lies at Rs 7.13, aligned with the 50-day EMA. A close below this level could open further downside toward Rs 6.80, he added. AGR Dues and Lack of Relief Keep Sentiment Tepid The technical weakness comes amid continued uncertainty around Vodafone Idea's massive adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. While the telco has sought further payment relief from the government, recent reports suggest that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is unlikely to grant any extension on the Rs 84,000 crore dues, payments for which are set to begin from FY26. This adds to the financial strain despite the government's earlier move to convert Rs 36,950 crore of dues into equity, giving it a 49% stake in the company. Subscriber Losses and Q4 Snapshot The company's total subscriber base fell below the 200-million mark in March 2025, underscoring the challenge it faces in retaining users amid fierce competition from Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel . Vodafone Idea reported a net loss of Rs 7,166 crore in Q4FY25, while revenue grew 3.8% year-on-year to Rs 11,014 crore. Sequentially, losses widened further.
