Dodgers 'Creative' 3-Team Trade Earns High Praise From MLB Insider

Compared to some of their fellow World Series contenders, the Los Angeles Dodgers didn't make the flashiest moves at this year's trade deadline.
The Dodgers' division rivals, the San Diego Padres, were wheeling and dealing. So, too, were the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Comparatively, the Dodgers' modest moves for names like Brock Stewart and Alex Call didn't generate a ton of fanfare.
However, one Dodgers move flew under the radar to many in the moment, but caught the eye of a Major League Baseball insider.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic was a big fan of the trade, and lauded decision-maker Andrew Friedman for pulling the trigger on Monday.
"Most creative executive: Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, who once again won a three-way trade, this time with the Rays and Reds, that netted Los Angeles lefty Adam Serwinowski, righty Paul Gervase and catcher Ben Rortvedt," wrote Bowden.
Gervase and Rortvedt were the two players that arrived in the deal from Tampa Bay, while Serwinowski came from the Reds. There were only three others involved: Feduccia, who went to the Rays alongside ex-Reds right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle, and right-handed pitcher Zack Littell, who went from Tampa Bay to Cincinnati.
Got all that? It's certainly not a trade the Dodgers made with the goal of drastically improving their World Series odds in the here and now, but it gave them two new pitchers that could amount to something eventually in exchange for slightly downgrading their third-string catcher spot.
Only history will determine whether the Dodgers "won the trade," but it certainly makes sense from a logical perspective.

At the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, a NASCAR track, a custom built field was constructed in the infield, I believe is what it is called in in NASCAR, in the middle of the track. For the purpose of, as, as I understand it, setting the record for the most fans at a regular season game. I love this idea, like, I think that like we want baseball to continue to try and do new stuff. I think this was an unbelievably ambitious version of that, that as we saw was pretty difficult to execute rain or not. Uh, that said, I don't want this to discourage the league from continuing to try new stuff. I agree. And this was, this was a hell of a spectacle and I, I know the rain impacted, I'm sure the broadcast and how it was received, whether you were there or not, uh, but the, but the scenes were, were amazing. Bristol Motor Speedway knows how to have 90,000 people show up in the middle of nowhere and accommodate, right? That happens twice a year, I believe when they have the races there. The issues seemed to be like, you got to have enough food. That is, I, I know that maybe the rain, complicated things, having enough food feels like a base level accommodation. I would say that starting the game and playing and eating on Saturday in those conditions felt like something of a. Sham. Like that was outrageous and ridiculous. I know that they wanted to get the game in. I understand that. But if Sunday was an option, they should have just banged it earlier. This was cool. Keep doing stuff like this, MLB. It is appreciated, it is interesting, it breaks up the season. It brings the sport to places that don't usually get to see the sport. There's a novelty to it. It is interesting. I would just say. Even though you got a a C+ on this paper, does it mean you should quit writing? Close

The Lake Mary softball team lost to the Southwest champs from Tulsa, Oklahoma 2-1 Monday afternoon in the Little League Softball World Series. After winning their world series debut 9-2 on Sunday against Washington, Lake Mary fell short in their second matchup. In this double elimination tournament, Lake Mary will play again on Tuesday night. They have to win or their season is over.
