KPWKM commended for leading advocacy against sexual harassment
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said sexual harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race or religion, and is often perpetrated by someone close to the victim.
'Many victims remain silent due to social pressure or simply because they don't know where to seek help. They should take advantage of the Sexual Harassment Redress Tribunal (TAGS) introduced by KPWKM. It provides a fast and low-cost alternative for addressing sexual harassment complaints.
'We all share the responsibility of creating a safe environment and supporting victims in seeking justice,' he said at the closing ceremony of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme and the handing over of the anti-sexual harassment notice last night.
Also present was KPWKM Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), Farah Adura Hamidi.
Joachim expressed concern over the rising trend of such cases in Malaysia, with 788 cases reported last year compared to 522 in 2023. As of March this year, 214 cases have already been recorded, five of them in Sabah.
He praised the impact of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme, which covered six districts across Sabah, starting in Tuaran on May 16, then moving through Papar, Penampang, Lahad Datu, Kunak and ending in Tawau.
He said the initiative brought meaningful benefits to key target groups in Sabah, particularly women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, through 34 programmes.
'Programmes like Ziarah Kasih, which deliver direct aid to clients of the Social Welfare Department and the National Population and Family Development Board, received strong support from the local community.
'This reflects the government's continued commitment to the well-being of its people,' he added.

She said that although the number showed a decrease compared to the same period last year, which was 130 cases, the figure was still worrying. Noraini said in this regard, the ministry had taken various initiatives to help reduce the number of domestic violence cases including through the Aku Wanita @ KRT Programme designed to approach the community in addressing the problem. She said that through the programme, issues related to domestic violence will be discussed in depth with experts and survivors, namely victims who have successfully escaped domestic violence problems, for them to share their stories of recovery. "In addition, a psychological intervention session called 'K-Chat' has also been introduced through this programme. KPWKM offers counselling for eHATI programme participants
TAIPING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will offer counselling to individuals affected by the controversial eHATI marriage motivation programme. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad confirmed the initiative but noted that the ministry is still awaiting a detailed report on the matter. Noraini, who also serves as Wanita UMNO Chief, stated that counsellors from the Social Welfare Department, the Department for Women's Development, and the National Welfare Foundation would be deployed once a formal report is received. She emphasised the importance of verifying the credibility of such programmes before participation. The eHATI programme, held last September at a local convention centre, has drawn criticism after a former participant alleged it contained inappropriate and provocative content. PBS acting chief denies claims of involvement in Sabah mining scandal

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Joachim Gunsalam has denied allegations implicating him in the mining scandal in the state. This comes after Malaysiakini on Saturday reported a source as naming six elected representatives purportedly involved in the scandal, including top leaders of PBS and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), both part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah administration. In a Facebook post, Joachim described the report as 'grossly irresponsible and ill-intentioned', saying it was aimed at tarnishing his reputation. 'I firmly deny the allegations implicating me in the purported bribery scandal involving Sabah mineral mining licences as reported in the Malaysiakini news portal,' he said. He added that he would not be distracted by attempts to discredit him but would remain committed to carrying out his responsibilities as Kundasang assemblyman and state minister. Joachim also urged PBS members and supporters to remain calm, united, and focused, saying he would face the situation with a clear conscience. 'Let us continue to work hard for the people. There is still much to do. We need to continue listening, finding what can be improved, and doing our best to bring development to our beloved state,' he said. In the Malaysiakini report, the source claimed that Joachim had received a bribe of RM600,000. The news portal later reported him as saying: 'Let the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission do its job.' On Monday, PBS deputy president Jahid Jahim also denied allegations based on the same report that he had accepted a RM150,000 bribe in the mining scandal. Meanwhile, STAR president Jeffrey Kitingan on Sunday denied allegations in the report that he had received RM1.78 million in connection with the scandal, saying these were unfounded and a political move aimed at tarnishing the state government.
