Trump Signs Weapons Deal With NATO to Arm Ukraine

Morocco World9 hours ago
Rabat – US President Donald Trump signed a weapons agreement with NATO allies yesterday, during an Oval Office meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The deal allocates billions of dollars in military equipment to be sent via NATO countries to Ukraine to support the war effort.
The president did not go into detail about the price of the weapons supply, although confirmed reports state that it will include Patriot Missiles. Trump did however make it clear that it would be paid for by European countries.
Mark Rutte has confirmed that there are several NATO countries prepared to help Ukraine including Canada, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands.
The signed agreement was described by Trump as, 'fully approved and done, we'll send them a lot of weapons of all kinds and they're going to deliver these weapons immediately.'
In yet another blow in the relationship between the two heads of state, Trump asserted that he is 'disapointed, but not done' with Vladimir Putin, but threatened that if he does not come up with a peace pact with Ukraine within 50 days, the US will slap severe 100 percent secondary sanctions on all Russian exports. This includes sanctions on countries that purchase Russian oil as well.
The weapon package allocated in the NATO deal is vital for Ukraine as the country continues to suffer from continual aerial bombardment and drone strikes from Russia.
However, the agreement has been opposed by several prominent members of the Republican Party including Majorie Taylor Greene and Steve Bannon. It is seen as a clear departure from Trump's previous position that he often talked about in his campaign run, saying that he would block weapons going to Ukraine and that Kyiv would not be able to prevail.
Trump U-Turns on Ukraine
The new deal shows a strong sign of support on behalf of the US, but does not mend the troubled history between Volodymir Zelensky and Trump. The Ukrainian president humiliated Trump during his first impeachment inquiry in 2019 with the phone call fiasco, and Trump returned the favor in the shouting match that erupted this past February.
Despite this, Trump stated yesterday that the Ukrainians had 'fought with tremendous courage' and that 'Europe has a lot of spirit for this war.'
Kremlin insiders and Russian officials have shrugged off the announcement stating that it wasn't very important within the grand scheme of the war.
Kyiv welcomed the announcement where anxieties had been high about the level of American support and Trump's intentions based on previous responses.
The world will now have to wait and see if this weapons supply will be enough to limit the scope of the offensive. Tags: kyivNATOPutinRussiaTrump PutinUkraine russia warZelensky

FM Holds Several Bilateral Meetings During EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held, on Monday in Brussels, a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of his participation in the 5th EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting. The minister, accompanied mainly by Morocco's ambassador and permanent representative to the EU, Ahmed Reda Chami, held talks with the European Commissioner for Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, discussing the means of strengthening the partnership between Morocco and the EU. The meeting focused on Morocco's commitment to the New Pact for the Mediterranean, designed to provide fresh impetus to the partnership between the two shores of the Mediterranean, as part of the EU's neighbourhood policy. Bourita also held talks with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, where the two officials discussed the strategic partnership between Morocco and the EU, as well as various regional and international issues of common interest. Subsequently, Bourita held talks with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, with whom he reviewed bilateral cooperation ties and examined ways of developing them further, within the framework of constant dialogue and consultation between the two countries. Bourita also held talks with several of his peers on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting, mainly including the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt and Slovenia. The 5th EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting aims to exchange perspectives on the New Pact for the Mediterranean, which is set to be presented in the next fall, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration. Trump Keeps Club World Cup trophy, Says Chelsea Given replica

Donald Trump has claimed that the Club World Cup trophy now sits permanently in the Oval Office after FIFA made a new one for Chelsea, who won the final on Sunday. Speaking to DAZN, Trump said: 'I said, When are you going to pick up the trophy? [They said] 'We're never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We're making a new one.' And they actually made a new one. So that was quite exciting, but it is in the Oval [Office] right now.' Trump attended the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Chelsea beat PSG 3-0. He joined FIFA president Gianni Infantino on stage and helped present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James. James later said, 'They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.' Midfielder Cole Palmer, named player of the tournament, added: 'I knew he was going to be here, but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused, yeah.' FIFA has been approached for comment on whether the original trophy is now in the Oval Office. The version presented on Sunday is understood to be a replica. According to reports, Trump also received a medal from Infantino after the ceremony, although it is unclear if he kept it. Infantino and Trump have made several joint appearances since Trump's return to the White House. FIFA recently opened a new office in Trump Tower, New York, further highlighting their close ties. Trump also used the final to float ideas of a broader rebrand. Speaking to broadcaster Emily Austin, he joked about signing an executive order to rename 'soccer' as 'football' in the US. He said the Club World Cup and the upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America were about 'unity' and 'a lot of love between countries'. Tags: Club World CupFIFAGianni InfantinoTrump
