Spartans wide receiver Nick Marsh named to Phil Steele All-Big Ten team

USA Today5 hours ago
One of the Spartans' wide receivers has been named to a popular preseason All-Big Ten list.
Phil Steele is back again this year with his preview content for the upcoming college football season, which includes his All-Big Ten teams. Steele has put together four All-Big Ten teams, and Spartans wide receiver Nick Marsh cracked the list.
Steele has Marsh on the All-Big Ten fourth team along with DT Sheffield of Rutgers and Ja'Kobi Lane of USC.
Marsh -- who has a four-star prospect in the 2024 class -- had a pretty solid freshman season this past year, recording 41 receptions for 649 yards and three touchdowns. He was especially important in two of the Spartans' top wins against Maryland and Iowa as well last season.
Marsh is expected to have a big year for the Spartans this upcoming season, so it's not surprising to see him included on Steele's list of top wide receivers from the Big Ten. I personally would have him on one of the higher teams, but also understand he needs to prove it first -- I'm sure he will this upcoming fall.

Oklahoma football announces three players headed to SEC Media Days

Southeastern Conference Football Media Days are the unofficial start of the college football season, and with them just around the corner, next week in Atlanta, preseason prognostications are heating up. Oklahoma is set to go on Wednesday as the last team of the day, following Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi State. Coach Brent Venables will open the proceedings for the Sooners on the dais with a press conference for the league's assembled media. On Tuesday, OU announced which three players would join their coach. Quarterback John Mateer, defensive back Robert Spears-Jennings, and defensive lineman R Mason Thomas will serve as the Sooners' player representatives in Atlanta. Each will make the rounds individually following Venables' remarks on Tuesday. Mateer will likely draw the biggest crowd. The transfer from Washington State holds the key to Oklahoma's offensive turnaround. The Sooners ranked 113th out of 134 teams in FBS in total offense last year. Mateer, meanwhile, led the country in total touchdowns, throwing for 29 and rushing for another 15 with the Cougars. That season made him one of the top recruits in the transfer portal, from which he chose to join former WSU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle back in Norman after Venables hired Arbuckle from Pullman. Thomas, the most established player, was named preseason All-American earlier this summer by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. His nine sacks led OU and tied him for fifth in the SEC last year, and his 12 1/2 tackles for loss ranked him in a tie for fifth in the conference. Spears-Jennings finished second on the team in tackles last year with 66, five of which came for loss. The Broken Arrow native added two sacks and an interception, as well. SEC Football Media Days begins Monday morning when LSU coach Brian Kelly takes the stage. Oklahoma's football season starts August 30 at home against FCS Illinois State. She currently leads the WNBA in rebounding—similar to how she finished her rookie season when she led the league in the same category. On Sunday, Reese earned her second All-Star selection of her young career and is headed to Indianapolis on July 19. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old has been a target on social media for her playing style. Since the start of the season, fans have claimed Reese's high rebounding totals come from her own misses, calling them "Mebounds." Angel Reese Name-Drops Two NBA MVPs in Bold Comparison to Her Game

Angel Reese Name-Drops Two NBA MVPs in Bold Comparison to Her Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has proven she can do it all on offense. She can bring the ball up, shoot, back defenders down in the post and crash the boards. Advertisement She is also one of the few players in the league averaging a double-double, entering Tuesday morning's contest against the Washington Mystics with 12.6 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Her all-around play this season has earned her a second WNBA All-Star selection. Before tip-off, Reese spoke to the media and was asked if she enjoys her role as a versatile player who can do it all. In her answer, the 23-year-old referenced the word "Unicorn," which Phoenix Mercury star Satou Sabally once used to describe her. Advertisement "I do enjoy it. Yeah, it's like that unicorn," Reese said. "The Satou's [Sabally] in the world, the [Nikola] Jokic's in the world. The Giannis' [Antetokounmpo] in the world. Um, and just being able to be that. Be that and be that new norm. So it just can be the work and grind and do whatever it takes." Jokic, the three-time MVP, is a 6-foot-11 center for the Denver Nuggets. He has proved he can put the ball on the floor while shooting from three. Antetokounmpo, the two-time MVP, is also 6-foot-11 and plays for the Milwaukee Bucks. He has a level of athleticism rarely seen in someone that tall.
