Radhika played tennis since school, wanted to make it big

Time of India12-07-2025
Gurgaon: Tennis was her passion, a game she began playing as early as Class 3 when she was barely taller than the net.
"She wanted to make it big in the game. It was her dream to play Wimbledon one day," said Dr Manoj DM, who Radhika Yadav consulted as her physiotherapist through her playing years.
That's, however, not how her career turned out, the talent not translating into consistent victories on court that would move her up the ITF (International Tennis Federation) rankings and gain her entry into top tier tournaments. The ITF website shows Radhika had a singles ranking of 1999.

During the pandemic, Radhika turned her attention to coaching, though she continued to play competitive tennis in the form of national and ITF tour events.
She also explored other interests, making an appearance in a music video that was shot in 2023.
Radhika (25) was on Thursday shot dead by Deepak at their house in Sector 57.
Those who knew Radhika told TOI she was a driven, hardworking and focused woman who wanted to be successful at what she did. She attended Scottish High International School. She did not eventually go to college, focusing on her tennis career instead.

"I saw her grow from a teenager to a motivated young woman and it deeply saddens me to see such a brilliant life cut short like this," said Manoj, whose association with Radhika began when she was just 14. "She was a good player who was passionate about tennis and would keep pushing boundaries, despite injuries and physical pains. Eight years ago, she had a cyst in her shoulder and was in extreme pain. But she overcame that and continued to play," he said, adding he was aghast that her father had shot her.
According to Manoj, after Covid, Radhika's career took a back seat as she focused less on her personal game. There were minor injuries and aches and pains that she was struggling with, which could have led to her focusing less on the game, he added.
Besides the academy near her house, which is believed to be the trigger for the spat between her and her father, Radhika coached at different local academies and also at the Magnolias.
A fellow tennis player who coached with her at Magnolia said he had seen her playing tennis since school and her talent was unmistakable. "I saw her play since she was 9-10 years old. Years later, I connected with her at Magnolias where she started coaching about a month ago. Everyone who took training under her liked her," said the coach.
Radhika had, meanwhile, featured in a music video called Karwaan alongside Inaam Ul Haq, a TV actor and singer. The video, released in June last year, now has over 20,000 views on YouTube. Inaam wrote on his social media account that he was "shocked to know" about Radhika's death. He said that he did not know much about her, their association limited to that one video. Flooded with questions, Inaam urged people to "leave him and his family alone".

Nuns' arrest: BJP Kerala chief rejects Chhattisgarh CM's conversion allegations

A day after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai justified police action against two Keralite Catholic nuns in that state, the BJP in Kerala on Tuesday virtually rejected his statements, saying that they were not involved in any human trafficking or forced conversion attempts. BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar categorically made it clear that his party would make all possible attempts to release the nuns from jail and bring them back home safe. Though forced conversion is a clear issue in states like Chhattisgarh, no such thing has happened in this particular incident, Rajiv Chandrasekhar said. "We are confident that they (nuns) have not gone there for that (convertions)," he told reporters here. Live Events In a post on X, Sai on Monday justified the police action against the nuns, saying, "Three daughters of Narayanpur were promised nursing training followed by jobs". An attempt was being made to convert them by human trafficking by luring them, he added. Rejecting the Chhattisgarh CM's remarks, Chandrasekhar said it was just an allegation. "We believe that no such things have happened there. It is an allegation. Let's see later who has made all these things and for what. Our top priority now is to protect the nuns from the case and bring them back home safe," he said. When reporters asked whether the BJP condemns the act of Bajrang Dal, who reportedly behaved in an objectionable manner to the nuns, the leader said the party would strongly condemn the unjustified act by anyone. "There should not be any ambiguity and doubt in that. We will come back only after ensuring justice for the nuns. That's the party's determination," he said. Chandrasekhar also made it clear that Bajrang Dal is an independent organisation and the BJP is a political party. "If they do wrong and act against justice, they will be punished," he added. Criticising the Congress in the matter, the BJP state chief further said, as in other issues, the grand old party is trying to play opportunistic politics in this matter too. The anti-conversion law in Chhattisgarh was passed by the Congress party when it was in power there, he added. Meanwhile, Anoop Antony, who leads the BJP's delegation, met Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma at his residence and told reporters that the Chhattisgarh government assured them it would intervene in the matter in a justifiable manner. He hoped that the government will intervene. He also said more details of the case could not be divulged at the moment as it is sub judice. The UDF MPs, including Benny Behannan, Francis George, and N K Premachandran strongly condemned the arrest of the nuns and said they would go to the prison here and try to meet them at the earliest. "We will first go to the prison and try to meet the nuns. Then, we will contact the officials concerned. Our aim is to get the nuns released at the earliest," Behannan told TV channels here. Premachandran alleged that the arrest of the nuns over charges of trafficking and forced conversion was a deliberate and calculated move. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's justification of the police act was proof for the suspicion that it was carried out with the knowledge and support of the state government and the ruling political leadership here, he charged. Francis George, who was also part of the opposition delegation, sought to know how taking people for a job in a Christian convent would become human trafficking. He further alleged that the arrest of the nuns undermined the fundamental principles, freedom of movement, and religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution. Before meeting the deputy CM, Anoop Antony said the party designated him to ensure a justifiable intervention in the matter. "It is Chhattisgarh, and circumstances are different here. So, the objective of my visit is to ensure a justifiable intervention in the matter," Antony told reporters here. The BJP Kerala unit, which came under vehement attack from political rivals and the church leadership, designated a delegation led by Anoop Antony on Monday to visit the party-ruled Chhattisgarh. The BJP's move came after two Kerala Ministers, P Rajeev and Roshy Augustine, visited the family of nun Preethi, one of the nuns arrested by the Chhattisgarh police. They had visited the family here as directed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, to offer them the full support of the Left government. A Congress delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan and UDF MLAs, also visited the nun's family to express their solidarity on Monday. The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC), an influential body of the Catholic church in the state, strongly condemned the arrest of nuns, calling it a painful and unacceptable incident, and urged the Centre to take justifiable action. The arrest of two Catholic nuns, hailing from Kerala, in the BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion triggered a political controversy in the state.

Vulgar messages to actress Ramya: Such incidents must be brought to a halt, says K'taka Home Minister

Commenting on the incident involving actress and former Congress MP Ramya, receiving vulgar messages from supporters of Darshan after her remarks on the fan murder case involving the Kannada actor, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that such incidents "must be brought to a halt." Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Home Minister Parameshwara said, "We have to take this development very seriously. Such incidents should not be repeated in the future. Today it has happened to actress Ramya; tomorrow, someone else might become a victim. We need to put a full stop to this. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner will take appropriate action." "I have not issued any specific instructions. The police will take necessary action on their own. We have also taken note of the letter from the State Women's Commission regarding this matter. Their letter will be responded to. I will also instruct the concerned authorities to ensure that such incidents do not occur again," Parameshwara added. Ramya filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Monday evening against actor Darshan's fans for sending obscene and defamatory messages following her post on the fan murder case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo Darshan is the second accused in the case, and the Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on an appeal challenging the grant of bail to him. Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Ramya said, "I shared news about the Supreme Court's development regarding actor Darshan's bail petition to give hope to common people about justice. After that, the trolling began. I have filed this complaint as a voice for women." "I have lodged a complaint against 43 social media accounts. Some of them even threatened me with rape. If this can happen to me, what about others? Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has assured me of action and has transferred the case to the Cyber Crime Wing. Women have the same freedom as men. Actor Darshan should have asked his fans not to post such messages," she added. "I don't have any personal connection with actor Darshan. I had met him once at a wedding before the fan murder case. If he had warned his fans earlier, the deceased fan Renukaswamy might not have been killed. He was Darshan's fan and likely wouldn't have sent messages to Pavithra Gowda," Ramya said. Pavithra Gowda, Darshan's girlfriend, is the prime accused in the murder case. In her complaint Ramya stated, "The disgruntled fans of actor Darshan (upset) by my act of sharing the news reporting the Supreme Court's proceedings, have sent scandalous, ghastly and obnoxious messages to my Instagram handle through various accounts. The messages sent to me are so disgusting and misogynistic that I am unable to even reproduce the same in the complaint." Ramya is also a film producer and has acted in more than 40 movies in different languages in the lead role. She has acted as a heroine opposite superstars like Dhanush, Surya, late Puneeth Rajkumar and others. Meanwhile, the organisation, Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), submitted a letter to Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday demanding immediate action against vulgar and misogynistic social media abuse targeting Ramya. Reacting to the vulgar messages and videos posted by actor Darshan's fans against the Kannada actress, the Karnataka State Women's Commission on Monday urged Bengaluru Police Commissioner Singh to take action in the matter.
