Gurgaon tennis player Radhika Yadav, who dreamt of playing Wimbledon, shot dead by father in family dispute

Radhika Yadav , a 25-year-old former tennis player and coach, was shot dead on Thursday by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their residence in Sector 57, Gurgaon. The tragic incident has left the local sports community in shock. At the time of the shooting, her mother was present in the house. Her uncle, Kuldeep Yadav , who lives on the ground floor of the same building, rushed upstairs after hearing a loud bang. Upon reaching the first floor, he found Radhika lying in a pool of blood. Kuldeep and his son took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Later, he filed the First Information Report (FIR) with the police. Early passion for tennis Radhika began playing tennis in Class 3 and pursued the sport with determination. "She wanted to make it big in the game. It was her dream to play Wimbledon one day," said Dr Manoj DM, a physiotherapist who worked with her through her playing years. She attended Scottish High International School and chose not to pursue college in order to focus on her tennis career. Despite her efforts, Radhika did not achieve consistent success at the international level. According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF), she held a career-high singles ranking of 1999. Challenges and shift to coaching After the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Radhika shifted her focus to coaching while continuing to play in national and ITF events. Dr Manoj noted that she was dealing with minor injuries and physical discomforts, which may have contributed to her stepping back from full-time competition. 'She was a good player who was passionate about tennis and would keep pushing boundaries, despite injuries and physical pains,' he said. He also recalled her perseverance during a painful shoulder cyst eight years ago, which she recovered from to continue playing. She coached at multiple local academies, including one near her home and another at the Magnolias, where she had started working about a month ago. A fellow coach remembered her as a naturally talented player and a well-liked trainer. 'I saw her play since she was 9-10 years old. Years later, I connected with her at Magnolias. Everyone who took training under her liked her,' he said. Live Events Creative interests and public reaction In addition to her sporting career, Radhika appeared in a music video titled Karwaan in 2023 alongside television actor and singer Inaam Ul Haq. The video, released in June last year, has over 20,000 views on YouTube. Inaam expressed his condolences in a social media post, writing that he was "shocked to know" about her death. He clarified that their professional interaction was limited to that single project and requested privacy, stating, 'Leave me and my family alone.' Investigation and allegations According to those familiar with the family, a dispute related to a tennis academy near their residence may have triggered the confrontation that led to her death. Dr Manoj, who had known Radhika since she was 14, said he was aghast to learn that her father was the one who shot her. 'I saw her grow from a teenager to a motivated young woman and it deeply saddens me to see such a brilliant life cut short like this,' he said. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Radhika played tennis since school, wanted to make it big

Gurgaon: Tennis was her passion, a game she began playing as early as Class 3 when she was barely taller than the net. "She wanted to make it big in the game. It was her dream to play Wimbledon one day," said Dr Manoj DM, who Radhika Yadav consulted as her physiotherapist through her playing years. That's, however, not how her career turned out, the talent not translating into consistent victories on court that would move her up the ITF (International Tennis Federation) rankings and gain her entry into top tier tournaments. The ITF website shows Radhika had a singles ranking of 1999. "She was a good player who was passionate about tennis and would keep pushing boundaries, despite injuries and physical pains. Eight years ago, she had a cyst in her shoulder and was in extreme pain. But she overcame that and continued to play," he said, adding he was aghast that her father had shot her. According to Manoj, after Covid, Radhika's career took a back seat as she focused less on her personal game. There were minor injuries and aches and pains that she was struggling with, which could have led to her focusing less on the game, he added. Besides the academy near her house, which is believed to be the trigger for the spat between her and her father, Radhika coached at different local academies and also at the Magnolias. A fellow tennis player who coached with her at Magnolia said he had seen her playing tennis since school and her talent was unmistakable. "I saw her play since she was 9-10 years old. Years later, I connected with her at Magnolias where she started coaching about a month ago. Everyone who took training under her liked her," said the coach. Radhika had, meanwhile, featured in a music video called Karwaan alongside Inaam Ul Haq, a TV actor and singer. The video, released in June last year, now has over 20,000 views on YouTube. Inaam wrote on his social media account that he was "shocked to know" about Radhika's death. He said that he did not know much about her, their association limited to that one video. Flooded with questions, Inaam urged people to "leave him and his family alone".

Sweet Magnolias Season 5: Release date rumors, cast updates and what to expect next

By Aman Shukla Published on July 7, 2025, 18:30 IST Last updated July 7, 2025, 11:05 IST Alright, Sweet Magnolias fans, grab your margarita glasses because we're diving into the latest scoop on Season 5! After Season 4 dropped on Netflix in February 2025, leaving us all reeling from that emotional finale, we're itching to know what's next for Maddie, Dana Sue, Helen, and the whole Serenity gang. From whispers about the release date to who's coming back and what drama's brewing, here's the lowdown on what to expect. Let's spill the tea! When Will Sweet Magnolias Season 5 Hit Netflix? No official release date yet, but let's piece together the clues. Filming kicked off on June 2, 2025, and should wrap by September 17, 2025, mostly in Atlanta, Georgia, with some cool New York City scenes thrown in. If we look at Season 4, which finished filming in May 2024 and landed on Netflix nine months later in February 2025, we're probably looking at a similar timeline. My guess? Season 5 could drop between summer and fall 2026, maybe August or September. Who's Back? Cast Updates for Season 5 The soul of Sweet Magnolias is its cast, and Season 5 is bringing back all our favorites. Here's who's set to return and what they're up to: JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan Heather Headley as Helen Decatur The Supporting Crew: Expect Justin Bruening (Cal), Brandon Quinn (Ronnie), Dion Johnstone (Erik), Carson Rowland (Ty), Anneliese Judge (Annie), Logan Allen (Kyle), Jamie Lynn Spears (Noreen), and Chris Medlin (Isaac) to return. Sadly, Chris Klein's Bill Townsend won't be back after his heartbreaking exit in Season 4. New characters might pop up too, because Serenity loves a fresh face to stir the pot. The writing team's got some familiar names like Sheryl J. Anderson and Michelle Denise Jackson, plus a new writer, Quincy Cho, who's penning her first episode. I'm excited to see what new vibes they bring! What's Coming in Season 5? Season 4 left us with cliffhangers and big changes, so let's break down what might happen next. Spoiler alert: We are just guessing based on the finale and cast interviews, but here's what we think we're in for: Helen and Erik's Big Day Helen's engagement to Erik had me tearing up, and Season 5 is gearing up for their wedding. Heather Headley promised it'll be a stylish, emotional bash, and I'm all in for the Magnolias planning it together. Maybe Maddie and Dana Sue will be bridesmaids, pouring their hearts into making it perfect. Annie and Ty's Long-Distance Love Annie's heading to California for photography school, and Ty's off to Europe with his band. Can their romance survive the miles? We are rooting for these two, but young love is tricky. Season 5 might show them growing apart or finding ways to stay connected, like late-night video calls or surprise visits. Either way, it's gonna tug at our heartstrings. Serenity's New Normal After Season 4's storm and Bill's death, Serenity's rebuilding. Noreen's running a mobile clinic with Jeremy, Isaac's got a new romance with Michael, and Peggy's stepping up as mayor. We are betting we'll see new faces or old enemies (Mary Vaughn, anyone?) stirring up trouble. The show's great at balancing cozy vibes with just enough drama to keep us hooked. Sweet Magnolias renewed for season 5 as Netflix confirms its return months after cliffhanger

Sweet Magnolias will be back for season five on Netflix, which will see Maddie Townsend take on the next unexpected chapter in her life. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Sweet Magnolias. Sweet Magnolias is making a comeback for season five after its fourth outing earlier this year ended on a major cliffhanger. ‌ Season four proved to be a memorable one as it came out that Bill Townsend (played by Chris Klein) had died off-screen. This made Serenity residents focus on their own lives and what they really want, including his ex-wife Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher). So it was partly this that led to Maddie sharing that she had accepted a publishing job in New York, bringing not only hers but the show's future into question. Thankfully, Netflix has confirmed that Sweet Magnolias will be back for more with a fifth season on the way. ‌ And going by showrunner Sheryl J Anderson, Sweet Magnolias season five is going to be spending some time away from Serenity and following Maddie in the Big Apple. ‌ Anderson, who is also the author of the best-selling novel series that Sweet Magnolias is based on, told Tudum: 'We are thrilled to let the Magnolias take Manhattan. 'Not only is this adventure huge fun, it's also an opportunity to explore the facets of their relationships in a new context. 'While it's crucial to have true friends in day-to-day life, it's priceless to have them supporting you when you leap out of your comfort zone.' ‌ It is believed that the entire main cast will be back for the next 10-episode stint with Swisher, Dana Sue star Brooke Elliott and Helen actress Heather Headley returning to lead the way. There hasn't been talk of a release date just yet but going by its previous series, it should be out sometime in the first half of 2026. ‌ Fans were worried about whether or not the drama would be renewed as there was no talk of another series more than two months after season four came out. Sweet Magnolias also only spent a couple of weeks in Netflix's global Top 10 for English-language series with season four peaking at the fourth spot. Nevertheless, series five hasn't been labelled as the final season so there is a chance there could still be even more to come following Sweet Magnolias making a comeback next year.

Netflix Sweet Magnolias season 5 confirmed as showrunner teases taking 'Magnolias to Manhattan'

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Sweet Magnolias. Sweet Magnolias has been confirmed to return for a fifth season, announced months subsequent to the dramatic conclusion of its fourth installment. The beloved drama based in Serenity unveiled season four in February, bringing with it astonishing revelations, including the off-screen death of Bill Townsend (depicted by Chris Klein). Consequently, Serenity's locals found themselves reflecting deeply on their own desires and aspirations. His death notably affected Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) as in the series finale, it was revealed that she had accepted a job offer at a publishing firm in New York, casting doubt over her future as well as the show's. Netflix subscribers can now breathe a sigh of relief, as it has been officially verified that Sweet Magnolias will continue into a fifth season. Seemingly, the narrative thread will leave its usual backdrop, partially transitioning away from Serenity as Maddie embarks on her new role in the Big Apple. Sweet Magnolias has been given the go ahead for a fifth season by Netflix, more than two months after series four came out. (Image: NETFLIX) Author Sheryl J Anderson and concurrently the series' showrunner and executive producer, conveyed her excitement to Tudum: "We are thrilled to let the Magnolias take Manhattan . "Not only is this adventure huge fun, it's also an opportunity to explore the facets of their relationships in a new context. "While it's crucial to have true friends in day-to-day life, it's priceless to have them supporting you when you leap out of your comfort zone." The main cast, including Swisher, Brooke Elliott of Dana Sue fame, and Heather Headley who plays Helen, are all expected to return for the next 10-episode run. While no official release date has been announced, if the show follows its previous schedule, fans can expect the new series to drop in the first half of 2026, possibly around February. Sweet Magnolias season four ended on a cliffhanger as Maddie Townsend announced she had accepted a publishing job in New York. (Image: NETFLIX) There was some worry among fans about the future of the drama, as there had been no mention of another series more than two months after the fourth season's release. Adding to these concerns, Sweet Magnolias only spent a brief period in Netflix's global Top 10 for English-language series, with the fourth season peaking at number four. However, the upcoming fifth season hasn't been tagged as the final one, leaving open the possibility of even more Sweet Magnolias to come following its return next year. Sweet Magnolias is available to watch on Netflix.
