Walsh magic sinks Titans as Broncos win five in a row
Brisbane won their fifth game in a row 26-14 at Robina on Sunday to stay fifth in the NRL standings and keep alive their top-four hopes.
The last-placed Titans had chances to win, but failed to ice the key moments.
It was a far from convincing display by the Broncos, who were error-riddled in the first half. Luckily for them their opponents were no better.
Walsh scored a try and set one up when the match was on the line, while centre Kotoni Staggs was a powerhouse and the best player on the field.
The scores were locked at 2-2 until the Broncos scored twice in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 14-2 halftime lead.
The Broncos finally went over in the 34th minute, and it was rookie 26-year-old prop Ben Talty who scored his first NRL try in just his second match.
Staggs swooped on a loose pass minutes later when it appeared the Titans would score, and back-rower Jack Gosiewski scored at the other end after a Walsh pass.
Walsh started and finished a long-range try after the break and topped it off with a back-flip somersault to boot to give his side a 20-2 lead.
Two tries to Titans centre Jojo Fifita inside nine minutes lit up the 24, 553 fans. An AJ Brimson grubber and a superb interchange between half Jayden Campbell and forward Chris Randall set up the four-pointers.
The Titans went close to levelling before Broncos hooker Billy Walters scored at the other end.
Broncos second-rower Brendan Piakura knocked-on early while attempting to score after an Adam Reynolds kick and was concussed in the process. He failed his HIA and did not return.
Speculation has been intense that Hasler is a dead man walking with his future prospects with the club, despite being contracted until the end of 2026.
His side played with commitment on Sunday, but also a lack of attention to detail.
Titans centre Brian Kelly had a shocker, with five errors costing his side dearly.

SAM Burgess admits that, as of now, what happens with George Williams' Warrington Wolves future is out of the club's and player's hands. "My best-case scenario would be that I don't have to but if I do, I'd wish him all the best – I love Georgie, I played with him and he's a great mate of mine. Whether Williams is a Warrington player in 2026 or not remains to be seen but having recovered from a long-term ankle injury, he will be a key part of efforts to ensure 2025 does not end in disappointment for his side. And Burgess says the most recent evidence - a player-of-the-match display in the victory over Catalans - illustrates that his commitment to the cause has not wavered. "You only have to watch his performance at the weekend to see that he's dialled in," he said. "He didn't go too great the week before but his effort and commitment are second-to-none. Wallabies skipper Wilson concedes losing Valetini a massive blow
Australian captain Harry Wilson conceded Friday that the loss of dynamic flanker Rob Valetini was a huge blow ahead of the opening Test against the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane. While Wilson was confident debutant Nick Champion de Crespigny would do the job as his replacement, he said Valetini's absence with a calf injury had left a hole in the Wallabies squad. 'Hasn't done anything': State of Origin hero under fire over 'disappointing' scenes
League great Greg Alexander has ruled the Cowboys out of playing finals footy this season after Thursday night's disappointing defeat to the Dolphins. And he's singled out Queensland State of Origin winner Reuben Cotter for specific criticism, after the Maroons back-rower continued his underwhelming club form for North Queensland. The Cowboys were blown off the park in the 43-24 flogging by the Dolphins, who ran in seven tries to four to jump into seventh on the NRL ladder. It was another dismal defensive display from North Queensland, who have the worst record in the competition after conceding a staggering 531 points in their 18 games so far this season. That equates to an alarming average of almost 30 points against per game and heaps more pressure on coach Todd Payten. As it currently stands, North Queensland are five points adrift of the top eight with six games to go. But Alexander said on the evidence of Thursday night's heavy defeat and their woeful recent form, he gives them no chance of featuring in this year's finals series. 'Put a line through the Cowboys after last night, it's the end of them,' Alexander said on SEN radio on Friday. 'Even though their draw is favourable, and they still have a bye up their sleeves, I can't see the Cowboys rallying after that." Reuben Cotter's form for the Cowboys under fire And Alexander says the form of Cotter has been particularly concerning after his impressive performances for Queensland in this year's Origin series win. The Maroons back-rower has been nowhere near his best for the Cowboys in 2025 and is averaging just 88 run metres and less than nine hit-ups per game, from his 12 appearances in clubland this season. Cotter's form does not bode well for his hopes of selection in the Kangaroos squad for their Ashes series against England later this year. The Cowboys forward has been a mainstay in the Kangaroos squads in recent years and played in their victorious Pacific Championships campaign last year, and was part of Australia's squad for their World Cup triumph in 2023. But he's fallen well down the pecking order in terms of the NRL's best back-rowers this season. Cowboys slip further out of NRL finals contention And it's indicative of the struggles of the star-studded Cowboys, who had four players featuring on Thursday night against the Dolphins that played in last week's Origin decider. Winger Murray Taulagi - who suffered a late hamstring injury - has also been a regular for the Maroons in recent years. But they are now staring down the barrel of missing the finals for a third time under Payten, having made it to the second week of the playoffs last season. Many critics insist the Cowboys should be pushing for the top-four but Payten has been unable to get the best out of his star-studded side in 2025. And it's left his position in serious threat, with the Cowboys slipping out of finals contention after six losses in their last seven games. "Their defence is just terrible," veteran NRL reporter Andrew Webster said on SEN radio. "I know they can score points and we saw that with three tries in eight minutes (against the Dolphins) but I don't know if it's the coach, I don't know what's wrong with them but they just don't seem to be able to stop points."
