The Tuesday letters page thinks a new 3D Mario could still be released this year, as one reader looks forward to Doom: The Dark Ages and a Quake reboot.

So, the world's worst kept secret is finally going to be revealed, with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster/remake. It sure has taken a long time to get here but I am convinced it will be worth the wait and that people are forgetting what a great game it is.
Morrowind and Skyrim are the games that always get talked about, but I honestly think that Oblivion is better than either of them. Morrowind is just too old and janky, and probably should've got a remake first, as it's almost unplayable right now.
Skyrim is obviously a classic, but it's so overexposed I don't think there's anything that could get me to play it again. But Oblivion is basically Skyrim but with more varied scenery and I think that with a good makeover it'll be seen as one of the best role-playing games ever again.
The only problem is that its story is even more of an afterthought than Skryim, but it's not really good for any of The Elder Scrolls games, so that's hardly a dealbreaker.

Too much excitement
So I guess the only real chance for a 3D Super Mario this year is if they announce it between now and their June event. But, like you say, if that was the plan why not just announce it at the Direct? Even if it's out next year, the Direct would've been fine I think. I mean what's the worst that can happen, that people get too excited for your upcoming slate?
Although, I suppose, if I was to think like a marketing person, they probably don't want to give you any reason not to get Donkey Kong. If you knew that was coming out in July and Mario in October, you might be tempted to just skip one and wait.
That makes a fair amount of sense, I guess, and does leave a chance for there to be a secret big Christmas game. I dunno though, this all seems to be creating so much unnecessary confusion and speculation. I really don't know how it benefits Nintendo to leave people guessing like this.

Every second counts
A nice reminder, with that Paul Rudd 1991 advert, that marketing back then didn't mean anything more complicated than a 30 montage of games… apart from Paul Rudd in a trench coat that was it. Ah, simpler times.
Maybe 30 seconds is a bit short but I'd much rather that the Nintendo Direct had been a lot shorter and packed a lot more in. I really don't know why they didn't include teasers for things like Mario and Animal Crossing, that we know are coming but they haven't mentioned yet.
Just five seconds each would've been fine but a montage of everything coming to the Switch 2 for the next few years would've got me opening my wallet a lot quicker than Hyrule Warriors 3 and Kirby: Air Riders.

Doomed release
I'm really looking forward to Doom: The Dark Ages next month, but I notice there's not a lot of hype around it at the moment. I don't see many people talking abut it and I don't know anyone in real life that is aware of it.
This disappoints me because the other two reboot games are some of my favourites of the last 10 years or so and, I would say, by far the most interesting first person shooters of the last two generations.
I guess they're pretty hard, and the Doom franchise isn't as big as it was, but I hope The Dark Ages isn't the last one for now.
I also hope there's more interest in the long rumoured new Quake from MachineGames. After the success of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle I feel they must be in Microsoft's good books at the moment and will hopefully get a lot of money and support.
I'd really love to see a big budget, Lovecraftian Quake with a proper single-player mode, that has the weird, experimental atmosphere of the original. None of the other sequels had it but I'm really hoping that MachineGames will vibe with that, and we can get another classic on our hands.

Froze toes
Very interested to see what Assassin's Creed Shadows looks like on Switch 2, but I've already got the game so I'm not going to be buying it. I do feel it's a bit of a shame that Ubisoft has not announced anything new or exclusive yet though.
They've always worked closely with Nintendo and I even enjoyed ZombiU and Rayman Legends on Wii U, so I was hoping they'd do something similar now. I don't know if getting burned on those made them not do exclusives for the Switch 2, but I hope other publishers don't get cold feet for similar reasons.
You'd think the success of the Switch 1 would mean no hesitation but that's not what we're seeing so far, which surprises me a bit.

When worlds collide
It's interesting how much effort CD Projekt seems to be making with the Cyberpunk 2077 port for the Switch 2. I guess there was The Witcher 3 port but otherwise I don't recall them having much contact with Nintendo or ever really acknowledging them.
I always like the idea of opposites working together though. I'd love to see an actual collaboration with CD Projekt. Not V being in Smash Bros. but a whole game that they both worked on, CD Projekt doing the script and role-playing elements, maybe, and Nintendo providing the gameplay.
Or imagine Nintendo co-operating with Naughty Dog! That's the one aspect of console exclusives that I don't really like, that the very best developers are locked to one system and can never really escape. Although it's a price worth paying, especially when you look at what happens when they do, with someone like Bungie.
I always wondered what level of involvement Nintendo had with Eternal Darkness, since they always advise on every game they publish. There probably wasn't much to do there, since that wasn't really about the gameplay but the thought of Nintendo helping out on a mature rated game intrigues me.

Parent company
I was wondering why Cristiano Ronaldo was in the new Fatal Fury and now I find out it's because SNK is owned by a Saudi company and he plays for a Saudi team? And people wonder why buyouts and acquisitions are viewed as a bad thing. Smaller companies either lose their identity as part of the larger company or end up having to do things like change their games to include things they don't want.
To be honest, it's put me off the game entirely and I think I'll take a pass until it's much cheaper. I knew they weren't the same SNK they used to be, but I didn't realise things had got this bad.

The game of forever
With so many companies very obvious getting out of the way for GTA 6 I'm more interested in what happens when the game comes out. It's not just that it's going to suck all the air out of the room at launch, people are going to be playing this thing for months and years.
I genuinely think there's a danger GTA 6 could bring the games industry to its knees but being almost the only thing people play for years on end. Even people that say they don't like GTA are going to want to see what the fuss is about and that's just going to bring in more and more players.
Short of Rockstar's servers breaking down, which seems like a real possibility, I don't see what else is going to stop people playing it. Why would you stop if it plays and looks as good as the trailer. GTA 5 is a pretty flawed game in a number ways but people are still playing it more than a decade later.
A brand new GTA 6, that looks and plays better, is going to be so big I don't think people are prepared for the impact. It would be an irony if the biggest danger to the games industry was its greatest success.

I still think that McDonalds' DualSense is the ugliest controller but I've got to say that Cap'n Crunch one comes pretty close. Maybe they can sell them in those weird American Candy stores they have everywhere now?

Not quite sure what's more hilarious: Cristiano Ronaldo appearing in the new Fatal Fury or the fact that the depiction of him in the game is even worse than that bronze statue of him from a few years ago! Still, I guess the goal of raising visibility for the game has been achieved, so well played SNK.

Games Inbox: Why has the Nintendo Switch 2 been so successful?

The Thursday letters page tries to predict what might be in the next Nintendo Direct, as one reader thinks EA should've made a new franchise instead of Battlefield 6. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ Beyond the games Really is incredible how well the Switch 2 has done, smashing all records for sales in the US and Japan. And all with what I would call quite a weak line-up of games. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza have reviewed well but they've not blown the doors off, and I doubt either are going to be getting any serious game of the year nominations. That's fine, some consoles don't get games of that quality in their whole lifetime, but that means there's got to be other reasons for it selling so well, beyond the games. I think it's a mixture of the idea of the Switch – the hybrid console – being just such a great concept, as proven by the Switch 1, and that Nintendo has earned such trust from the last console and its games. I do feel their lack of announcements so far is already playing a bit loose with that trust but so far there doesn't seem to be any sign of them being punished for it. People are buying the Switch 2 not just for what it can do now but for what they believe it'll do in the future, based on the Switch 1. And I think as long as Nintendo don't start resting on their laurels that's fine. Looking forward to the next Nintendo Direct. Onibee Home made Thanks very much for the Amiga top 20. I can think of a few games I would've added but not many I would've taken out, which is probably a good sign. Although I admit I've never heard of or played Warhead, Exile, or Starglider 2 before. The thing that stuck out to me was how almost all of the games were British, which I didn't really think of at the time. But now I realise that most of the games I was playing in my youth were either British or British companies porting over Japanese-made arcade games. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. I actually must've played relatively few American games in those days, which is wild when you think of the industry today, where almost everything is American and there are basically no British games at all. We can't turn the clocks back but clearly something has been lost and I agree that it's a nice treat nowadays to play something that hasn't been made in either the US or Japan. I don't know if we're going to get a flood of French games now, because of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but I'd much prefer that than another game where I have to save New York City. Columbo The penultimate ninja I recently invested into System 3's Last Ninja collection Kickstarter. I have hoped for an updated/new Last Ninja game for decades. While this collection is a way to keep the purchaser as a custodian of the game of sorts, I do think the inclusion of The Last Ninja 4 demo is proof that the game could be given a new lease of life. As Mark Cale has said, it takes a lot of time, effort, and not least money to make a game these days, so perhaps some rich individual/company might give the game a chance to be played by today's younger gamers and see what a fantastic experience it is. GHH69 GC: Oh, they've also got IK+ in there too. Email your comments to: gamecentral@ Slowly does it I have a feeling we're all going to be disappointed by the next Nintendo Direct. They have got far too much stuff that nobody cares about to talk about at the moment, that I don't think they're going to have time for anything else. We might get some new Mario Kart World content, but we know nothing about Hyrule Warriors and Kirby Air Rider at the moment, or Metroid Prime 4. Even if they split that off and give it its own Direct, I think next year's games are just not what they're bothered about at the moment. Maybe we'll get a mic drop teaser at the end, maybe, but I think that's much more likely in the autumn or at The Game Awards. From Nintendo's perspective everything has worked out perfectly with the Switch 2, I don't think they're in any hurry to move things forward. Grant Boomer extrusion I've got to say, that Fallout 1 remake you mentioned looks really amazing. I'm not familiar with the Doom engine it's made with, but it seems to have the perfect balance between old school and modern, and I'm very keen to see more games made with it. So-called boomer shooters have become quite popular in recent years, but they always seem kind of forced to me. But I really like this approach, of remaking an isometric game in the style of an old school first person game. It makes me want to see other games like Planescape: Torment and maybe even the original Diablo games? It would be cool, I think. Beniz Rainbow 12 I've bought and been playing recently Ready or Not, a cracking game that's just come out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. It's a mission-based game where you have to storm a building/office/home and take out the bad guys. It can get played single-player with bots or online with friends or randoms. I guess it's a mixture of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six games and Rainbow Six Siege. It's a very tense game, knowing one wrong move can lead to death and a mission restart. The AI is impressive, especially the enemies who move around the maps very effectively and cause some unpleasant surprises. At £45 I thought this was money well spent – replay is high, as each time the enemies start in different places. All in all, highly recommend. Keep up the good work. Manic miner 100 (gamertag) GC: Thanks. Secret ending Surely there's going to be a Metroid Prime 4 Nintendo Switch 2 hardware bundle by Christmas as well? Which is going to make at least four different official ones. I would warn everyone though that the cheap Mario Kart World one is not going to be around forever. Nintendo hasn't said when it will stop but they have said it won't last past this year. I pointed this out to a friend who was weighing up whether to get one or not and I said to him it's not a good idea to wait until autumn because that deal could just disappear overnight. Lumpy Giving up If Battlefield 6 is as big a hit as EA wants I will be shocked. They've got four separate developers making this?! For a franchise that's always been an also-ran and where the last one sunk without trace within a matter of days? Are we sure this isn't a tax write-off or something? The big problem with the lack of new IP today is that companies would much rather flog a dead horse than just come up with something relatively similar, that has more freedom to try new things. We all know what a Battlefield game is and I'm sure that after the failure of the last one they'll try and paint the new one as being back to its roots or some such tagline. But why not just make something new that doesn't have all that baggage? What are the main elements of Battlefield? 64+ player battles, lots of vehicles, and destruction. There's really nothing beyond that, with no consistent setting, no unique game modes, and definitely no ongoing storyline. Surely it'd be far better to make something new in the same area then spend half your time defending yourself from rabid fans and the other half telling non-Battlefield fans that they shouldn't be scared because it's called Battlefield 6 and yet is actually the 13th sequel. Maybe I'm being naïve, but I think there comes a time where a name becomes more of a hinderance than a help, especially with a franchise that never quite made it to the big time. Lostem Inbox also-ransWhat I don't get with these next gen portable rumours is how much is it all going to cost? If you've got a PlayStation 6 home console and the portable, isn't that going to be the best part of £1,000. And then they turn round in a couple of years and try and push the PS6 Pro? No thank. Grondite I loved the Amiga. I would say Superfrog was my favourite game but then I played it again recently and it was awful. Nostalgia can be a hell of a kick to the head sometimes. Hollywood superstar worth $1.4 billion had to financially cut off family

Hollywood star Tyler Perry has detailed how he had to stop funding a family member after they 'didn't want to work'. Last year the actor and filmmaker, 55, was singled out as the richest actor in the world, amassing a net worth of $1.4billion (£1billion). Best known for being the creator and star of the Mabel 'Madea' Simmons character, Perry has produced several films centring on her since 2005's Diary of a Mad Black Woman. He has also developed a strong of TV shows, most notably Tyler Perry's House of Payne, The Haves and the Have Nots and The Oval. Aside from his own productions, Perry has also appeared in movies including Star Trek, Gone Girl and Don't Look Up. Throughout his career to date, Perry's films have grossed over $660 million (£485million). However, this week Tyler revealed that after getting frustrated by an aunt expecting handouts from him, he attempted to give her a job so she could earn her own money too. Speaking on a recent episode of the YouTube series Den of Kings, Tyler told host host Kirk Franklin and fellow guests Derrick Hayes and Jay 'Jeezy' Jenkins a recent experience after he hired an aunt to work for him. 'She said she wanted a job. She would always call asking for money. I said, 'Okay'. I would send her the money,' he said. 'But then I was like, 'Listen, I want to help you. I want to help you build this thing, not be welfare to you. So, let me give you a job'.' However, after she didn't bother turning up, he had to fire her. 'So, I'm like, 'Okay, well you gotta go'. You want me to hand you the money, but you don't want to work for it. See, that doesn't work for me.' In the interview Tyler also explained how that after his mum died in 2009, he sent letters to several family members telling them they needed to get a job within 60 days as he would no longer be financially supporting them. More Trending Although the hosts were shocked, he replied: 'They all got jobs.' Tyler went on to share that he also expects strong work ethic from his 10-year-old son Aman too. 'There are certain things that he wants. He has to do chores and work for it. I don't believe in just giving us things that are just going to handicap us. That is the worst thing you can do,' he added. Got a story? Two new racers coming to Mario Kart World hints Donkey Kong credits

Fans have noticed the credits for Mario Kart World feature two Donkey Kong actors that aren't in the game yet, as hopes raise for a Nintendo Direct annoucement. Now that Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are out it's not entirely clear where the Switch 2 goes from here. Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 are major new releases but they're both cross-gen Switch 1 games. Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders have been announced but they're clearly both lower tier releases. Not only is it unclear what the next big Switch 2 game will be but it's also a mystery as to how Nintendo will treat Mario Kart World going forward. Clearly it will get DLC at some point, but will it work the same as Mario Kart 8 or, as new rumours suggest, will it be treated more like a live service game, with regular updates used to promote other Nintendo games. Nintendo, as ever, has said nothing, with no hint at any DLC at all. However, right from day one, players noticed that although even the most obscure character in the game has at least three costumes, Donkey Kong and Pauline only have two – their default and one other. This seems very peculiar given how prominent Bananza has made the pair, but it's so suspicious that many believe it's an indication that more will be released in order to promote Bananza. But if that's the case, why hasn't it happened yet? *** WARNING: Massive Donkey Kong Bananza spoilers beyond this point. Do not read on unless you've already beaten the game *** Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. There is no current answer as to why Nintendo hasn't announced new costumes for Donkey Kong and Pauline, but if they are going to do it then perhaps it will happen during the rumoured Nintendo Direct this month. But while the costume situation remains a mystery, fans have discovered something in the credits of the game which seem to point at a different Bananza-related addition. Eagle-eyed fans on Reddit noticed that the voice actors for main villain Void Kong and (this is the big spoiler!) King K. Rool are also credited in Mario Kart World. None of the Mario Kart World credits indicate what roles any of the actors play but all of the existing characters in the game already seem to be accounted for, so it's a mystery as to who Yuu Hayashi and Tsuguo Mogami are, or will be, voicing. More Trending That doesn't guarantee it'll be Void Kong and King K. Rool but it is hard to imagine this is all a coincidence and they're voicing two other completely different characters, that just don't happen to have been announced yet. What's much harder to guess at is whether there might be other characters from Bananza coming to Mario Kart World and whether other characters will be added as they get new games. Diddy Kong (who was already in Mario Kart 8), Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong are also in Bananza but they're all nominally part of the Super Mario universe. So what happens when Metroid Prime 4 comes out? Will Nintendo add Samus Aran to Mario Kart World at that point? It's impossible to say, but if there's not some kind of annoucement at the next Nintendo Direct, whenever that might be, it would now be more surprising than if there is.
