Tribes say no to any security operation in Waziristan
The protest, far more than a religious gathering, served as a peaceful but forceful public referendum against what locals see as government's destructive policies. With shops closed and the slogan "Operation Not Accepted" resonating throughout the area, it marked a significant moment of political awareness, public unity, and resistance.
Leading the prayers and protest was Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) MNA Mufti Misbahuddin, who declared during his sermon: "This prayer is the nation's peaceful rejection of any possible operation. We are standing for the protection of our homes, lands, markets, and children. No power can displace us again." He added that tribal communities had established peace in the past and will not accept "devastation in the name of peace" again.
Mufti Baitullah, speaking on behalf of the Utmanzai tribal council, announced three key decisions:
If a military operation is launched in any village, the entire population will come out of their homes in protest.
Peaceful demonstrations will be held across the region, urging people not to vacate their houses.
Shops and homes will not be abandoned under any circumstances.
Traders from towns including Miranshah, Mir Ali, Khaddi, Harmuz, Hassu Khel, and Epi voiced their frustration, saying that damages from the 2014 Zarb-e-Azb operation have still not been compensated.
Haji Gul Muhammad, a local shopkeeper, said: "We rebuilt our shops on loans, restarted businesses from scratch, but every few months we hear of another operation. Our lives are stuck in uncertainty." He recalled how women were forced to live for months in open fields, schools, and tent camps during the last displacement. "This time, if they come, we won't leave. We'll sit in front of them."
After Zarb-e-Azb, over 7,500 shops in Miranshah and more than 800 in Mir Ali were completely destroyed. More than 2,000 homes suffered partial or complete damage, and commercial goods worth millions of rupees were lost to looting or fire.
Tribal elder Nisar Ali Khan revealed that they've been informed of preparations for a "clearance operation" in certain areas. "We will not stay silent this time," he warned, pointing to past incidents of forced displacement, extrajudicial arrests, and human rights violations during military operations. "Today, the people of North Waziristan have told the world they are peacefulbut they will not offer further sacrifices. Their patience has run out." He cautioned that if the government ignores the public's voice, future tribal resistance may intensifynot just on the streets, but also within legal and political frameworks.
This mass protest comes amid a backdrop of rising violence in the region, including skirmishes between security forces and terrorists, roadside bombings, and multiple suicide attacks. Locals believe these incidents are being used as a pretext to launch a fresh military campaign.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday denounced Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's shockingly appeasing, submissive and apologetic stance, particularly his offer to extradite Pakistani citizens to India under the guise of a so-called confidence-building measure (CBM) — a country that remained actively engaged in state-sponsored terrorism, espionage and subversive activities against Pakistan. Speaking at a presser, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that Bilawal was an 'immature political child', stating that such irresponsible, ill-advised and sweeping statements not only damage Pakistan's national security narrative but also humiliate the country on international platforms. He lamented that the surrogates imposed upon the nation through electoral fraud, had brought Pakistan to its knees, which completely politically destabilized and economically devastated – solely to cling to power. 'We fail to understand why Bilawal is so keen on appeasing India,' he asked. He stated that Bilawal was proving time and again that he lacked political wisdom, vision and understanding of regional geopolitics. Instead of holding India accountable for its continued aggression, water terrorism and cross-border interference, Bilawal was proposing CBMs that compromise Pakistan's sovereignty and integrity, he said. Bilawal urges UN to press India for comprehensive dialogue He emphasised that it was imperative to ask Bilawal on whose behalf he issued such a statement and what he intended to achieve by offering such concessions to a belligerent India by humiliating Pakistan on an international stage. He further criticised Bilawal's flip-flop from threatening India with war to begging for peace, saying PPP chairman became a symbol of inconsistency, confusion and contradiction in Pakistan's foreign policy discourse. PPP was founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the legacy of Kashmir, but today, Bilawal is betraying that legacy by pursuing political gains at the expense of Kashmiri blood, he stated. He said that leaders were born, not made through makeup and forced media appearances. 'If PPP's intelligentsia truly cares about Bilawal, they should let him contest local body elections first and appear on regional TV channels instead of being pushed on international media, where he only embarrasses Pakistan,' PTI CIS stated. He asserted that Bilawal was an 'immature political child' who would lead PPP to complete elimination, advising that if the party wanted to survive, he must step aside and hand over chairmanship to Aseefa Bhutto, who, at the very least, showed more promise and sense than him. He said that those encouraging him to go global were not his friends – they were his political undertakers, because pushing him into the limelight without proper grooming, only to expose his incompetence. Shifting focus to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he cautioned against any covert or overt attempts to destabilise the democratically elected PTI government in the province. He vowed that PTI would resist any such move tooth and nail, as the people of KP have given their mandate to PTI, and they would not allow surrogate rulers to be imposed in KP like elsewhere in the country. He said the people of KP have already suffered enough due to military operations, exploitation of resources and broken promises and PTI would not allow any such misadventure again in the region. He reminded the centre of the disastrous consequences of past military operations in tribal areas, which brought nothing but destruction, displacement and resentment among tribal people. Therefore, he pressed that instead of repeating failed strategies, the government must prioritise development, infrastructure, education and economic uplift in neglected region. He emphasised that the solution to Pakistan's internal challenges lied in respecting democracy, empowering provinces and investing in neglected regions, not through coercion and brute force. Turning to the government's economic mismanagement and flawed foreign investment strategy, he pointed out that while the government loudly trumpeted its claims of attracting foreign investment through the much-hyped SIFC, the ground reality tells a different story. Waqas stated that multinational companies were shutting down their operations due to flawed, shortsighted and self-serving policies — the closure of Microsoft's office in Pakistan speaks volumes in this regard. Expressing surprise over government double-standard, he said that Pakistan's trade with India surged quietly, yet trade with brotherly neighbour Afghanistan remained suspended, which was not only unjust but also economically suicidal. Waqas demanded that trade with Afghanistan be immediately resumed to benefit the people of Pakistan and the bordering tribal areas, adding that the imposed regime's anti-people policies were destroying livelihoods of the people. Akram vowed that the party would fight till the last ball against the current authoritarian regime. He stated that PTI Patron-in-chief Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leadership were facing politically motivated and fabricated cases, but PTI would not back down. Waqas made it clear that they would not rest until release unlawfully incarcerated PTI founder and other leaders, establish the rule of law, constitutional supremacy, and true democracy in Pakistan. Pakistan strives for regional peace, whereas Modi's policies threaten stability: PPP leader
LARKANA: President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has called upon the international community to demand India revoke its unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, terming the International Court of Arbitration's verdict against the suspension a diplomatic triumph for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and an endorsement of Pakistan's stance. He warned that if India continues to disregard international laws on water-sharing, it will face severe consequences on the water front. Khuhro expressed these views while addressing the media during a mourning assembly (Majlis-e-Aza) near Aaqil, Larkana on Saturday. He stated that India has no legal or constitutional authority to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, as the 1960 treaty grants Pakistan control over the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers, while India controls the Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas rivers. The treaty contains no provision for unilateral suspension, and both parties are bound to adhere to it. He asserted that if India refuses to recognize Pakistan's rights over the three rivers under international law and continues constructing dams to block Pakistan's water supply, it will lead to conflict over water, which is Pakistan's lifeline. Khuhro warned that if India attempts water terrorism by diverting river flows, it will face defeat on the water front just as it has on other fronts. He praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for effectively raising the issue globally, exposing India's unconstitutional suspension of the treaty. The international community and the Court of Arbitration have recognized Pakistan's stance as legally sound, declaring India's move unlawful—a victory for Bilawal's diplomatic efforts. He emphasized that Pakistan seeks regional peace, whereas Modi's policies threaten stability. India is now trying to undermine the arbitration court's role, but these efforts will fail. The court's verdict is a triumph for justice, law, and regional peace. Khuhro urged the global community to compel India to comply with international law and revoke its suspension of the treaty. He warned that Pakistan will not tolerate India using water as a weapon. He also demanded the federal government ensure full implementation of the 1991 Water Accord, releasing at least 10 million acre-feet downstream Kotri to prevent environmental and agricultural damage.

'The battle that took place on the battlefield of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram Al-Haram is not an ordinary battle, but an eternal message for the entire world,' he remarked. He said, 'The grandson of the Prophet, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family and devoted companions, sacrificed their lives for the sake of truth, justice and religion, but did not bow down to falsehood.' 'This great sacrifice of his reminds us that protecting principles and standing firm on the truth requires great courage and unwavering faith. The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) makes it clear as day that the true spirit of Islam lies in human dignity, justice, mercy, principledness and freedom,' he asserted. The prime minister said, 'The incident of Karbala teaches us that although the path of truth is difficult, it is the path that leads to the pleasure of Allah Almighty, satisfaction of hearts and eternal welfare. The message of the Supreme Imam is not limited to his time, but is a universal message, which even today convinces us that a Muslim stands for the truth, supports the oppressed, and supports justice in all circumstances.' He said, 'Today, when our nation is facing many challenges. Be it the economy, society or national unity, we need to take guidance from the life of Imam Hussain (RA) more than ever.' 'We have to adopt qualities such as honesty, tolerance, patience, sacrifice and principledness in our national life. From individual attitudes to state policies, if we chart our course in the light of Karbala, Pakistan can become a welfare, just and self-reliant state that not only represents the aspirations of its people but also sets an example for the world,' he remarked. He said, 'The great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) is the mutual asset of the entire Muslim Ummah. We should make this sacred message a source of unity, and make our society a cradle of love, tolerance and goodwill.
