Pakistan strives for regional peace, whereas Modi's policies threaten stability: PPP leader
He warned that if India continues to disregard international laws on water-sharing, it will face severe consequences on the water front.
Khuhro expressed these views while addressing the media during a mourning assembly (Majlis-e-Aza) near Aaqil, Larkana on Saturday.
He stated that India has no legal or constitutional authority to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, as the 1960 treaty grants Pakistan control over the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers, while India controls the Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas rivers. The treaty contains no provision for unilateral suspension, and both parties are bound to adhere to it.
He asserted that if India refuses to recognize Pakistan's rights over the three rivers under international law and continues constructing dams to block Pakistan's water supply, it will lead to conflict over water, which is Pakistan's lifeline. Khuhro warned that if India attempts water terrorism by diverting river flows, it will face defeat on the water front just as it has on other fronts.
He praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for effectively raising the issue globally, exposing India's unconstitutional suspension of the treaty. The international community and the Court of Arbitration have recognized Pakistan's stance as legally sound, declaring India's move unlawful—a victory for Bilawal's diplomatic efforts.
He emphasized that Pakistan seeks regional peace, whereas Modi's policies threaten stability. India is now trying to undermine the arbitration court's role, but these efforts will fail. The court's verdict is a triumph for justice, law, and regional peace.
Khuhro urged the global community to compel India to comply with international law and revoke its suspension of the treaty. He warned that Pakistan will not tolerate India using water as a weapon.
He also demanded the federal government ensure full implementation of the 1991 Water Accord, releasing at least 10 million acre-feet downstream Kotri to prevent environmental and agricultural damage.

High court adjourns May 9 bail hearing
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday accepted the prosecution's request for granting an opportunity for submitting a reply regarding bail pleas filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ijaz Chaudhry in four cases registered against him over the May 9 riots. The court adjourned the hearing of the bail applications till Thursday. An LHC division bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi heard the bail applications. The prosecution sought time for submitting the reply before the court. Petitioner Ijaz Chaudhry contended his bail application that he had nothing to do with the allegations levelled in the first information reports (FIRs). He alleged that he had been implicated in forged and frivolous cases that were politically motivated. He stated that nothing was available on record to establish his nexus with the offences portrayed in the FIRs. He requested the court to grant him bail.

Assembly ruckus hits citizens' right to information: speaker
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has said that the uproar by the opposition and disorder during the budget session was an attack on the public's right to know how much money was being allocated for them. Addressing the students of a university at Old Punjab Assembly Hall, he said books were always torn and thrown during budget speeches and there had been attempts to attack the speaker. Should such conduct not come to an end now? he asked. He shared that during the budget session, the opposition had submitted 37 applications, 12 of which were merely meant to create noise and disruption. He expressed his willingness to play a role in facilitating meaningful dialogue between the government and the opposition, adding that decisions based on justice and in line with the Constitution would guarantee the country's stability. He said Article 63(2) of the Constitution clearly states that if a member violates the Constitution, the speaker has the authority to initiate action. He stated that when members of the assembly make obscene gestures, use abusive language, or harass women, it becomes a constitutional duty of the speaker to take action against them. He said 22 members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had requested National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to send a reference against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, but the allegations had been declared baseless. He said the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif was the worst judgment in the history of judiciary. He emphasised that he was not against any political party but the protection of parliamentary values remained his foremost priority. The Punjab Assembly speaker said he had provided representation to the opposition in standing committees, whereas former speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had not done so.

Imran plans jail-led protest, sons to join after return from US
Listen to article Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan intends to lead a protest movement from jail against the 26th Constitutional Amendment, while his sons Sulaiman and Qasim will join the campaign after returning from the United States, his sister Aleema Khan said on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Aleema conveyed the jailed former prime minister's message to supporters, claiming he remained resolute despite solitary confinement and harsh prison conditions. 'He [Imran Khan] said he is free inside jail, while those outside are imprisoned,' she said, adding, 'People must come out for themselves, for democracy, for the rule of law, and against the 26th Amendment. Anyone who cannot bear the weight of this movement should step aside now.' — Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) July 8, 2025 Imran, she said, had asked that the protest movement should reach its peak on August 5 — the date that will mark two years since his imprisonment. 'After the 26th Amendment, all public rights have been effectively taken away,' she added, noting that their entire family would participate in the campaign while former prime minister sons will join the campaign after returning from the United States. "Imran Khan's sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, will first go to the United States to raise awareness about the injustices faced by their father, and then they will take part in the movement being launched in Pakistan. Imran Khan has been informed of this," he said. She expressed concern over his treatment in custody, describing it as unprecedented. 'What is being done to him is unlike the treatment of any other prisoner. He has been denied access to television, newspapers, and reading material for a week. His books are lying in the deputy superintendent's room,' she said. She added that PTI founder has been held in solitary confinement and has not been allowed to see his doctor for the past ten months. 'They think they can break him. But they cannot,' she said, adding that she herself had also been barred from meeting him. عمران خان کے بیٹے قاسم اور سلمان پہلے امریکا جائیں گے وہاں اپنے والد پر ہونے والے ظلم کے بارے آگاہ کریں گے، پھر پاکستان میں شروع ہونی والی تحریک میں حصہ لیں گے، عمران خان کو بتا دیا گیا ہے، علیمہ خان۔ — PTI (@PTIofficial) July 8, 2025 Earlier in the day, dozens of PTI supporters gathered at the Gorakhpur checkpoint as Khan's sisters attempted to walk toward the prison. Police contingents were deployed, and party workers raised slogans. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja was also present at the scene. While Aleema was stopped near a local hotel and not allowed to proceed, other family members were eventually granted access.
