You've launched the new K4 globally and in the US. Can we expect it in the region?
Yes, absolutely. We're still finalisng the market rollout timeline, but our intention is to bring the K4 to the region.
The K4 offers something refreshing in a world dominated by SUVs. Not every consumer wants an SUV. The K4 appeals to buyers who value sleek design, tech features, and practicality in a compact sedan format. We see strong potential for it among young professionals and families in the Middle East.
What makes the K4 a compelling proposition for this region?
It's bold and dynamic in design, loaded with advanced connectivity, and offers great value. The cabin experience and tech stack are really where it shines — large curved displays, OTA updates, and a refined layout. These are features Middle East customers now expect even in non-premium segments. The K4 answers that demand.
What about the new Tasman pickup — will it come to the Middle East?
Yes. We're very excited about the Tasman and can confirm it will be part of our offering in the region. The pickup segment in the Middle East is evolving, especially with more urban users seeking trucks for both work and leisure. The Tasman isn't just rugged, it's versatile. It combines the practicality of a utility truck with comfort and features for everyday driving.

Do you see off-road and desert culture influencing your strategy?
Without question. Off-roading is embedded in the lifestyle here, and that's shaping how we approach product development and positioning. Whether it's SUVs or trucks, we're factoring in durability, terrain capability, and visual presence. But customers also want tech, safety, and refinement. That's the sweet spot we're targeting.
How is Kia building its electric vehicle lineup in the region?
Our EV strategy is rapidly evolving. We've already introduced the EV6 and EV9, and next up are the EV3 and EV5. These models will cater to broader price segments and market needs. The EV3, in particular, is a compact electric SUV with a lot of appeal for urban buyers. We're also focused on ecosystem partnerships, from charging infrastructure to service, so that adoption becomes seamless.
Kia's also been talking about PBVs. What's the plan there?
PBVs, or purpose-built vehicles, are central to our long-term mobility vision. The Middle East is very relevant for this because of smart city developments and logistics growth.
Our PV5, the first dedicated PBV, will cater to fleet operators, ride-hailing, and delivery services. What makes it unique is its modular interior and flexibility — it's a tech-enabled workhorse. And because we're building it on a scalable architecture, we can quickly adapt based on market needs.

UAE millionaires allocate nearly 30% of portfolios to sustainable investments
Wealthy investors in the UAE have a strong preference to allocate their capital towards sustainable investments, aligning with the national government's climate goals and aspirations for a sustainable economy, according to Standard Chartered. UAE's high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) with assets under management of $1 million set aside nearly a third (27%) of their portfolios to sustainable investments, the highest percentage among eight markets surveyed globally by the bank. Nearly nine out of ten (87%) of the investors also said they are interested in transition investing, in line with the global average. The insights are based on the bank's survey of HNWIs across the UAE, Hong Kong, Mainland China, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. The current allocation trends indicate that investors in the UAE seek to align with the local government's objectives, particularly the Net Zero 2050 vision. It also indicates a shift towards low-carbon, future-focused investment strategies. What investors prefer Standard Chartered highlighted that investors in the country are attracted to certain investment themes that align with the UAE's energy diversification goals and climate commitments. They are particularly interested in green hydrogen, carbon markets, carbon capture and storage, indicating their preference for 'real economy solutions' to achieve a low-carbon future. 'The findings reaffirm the UAE's leadership in sustainable finance, with UAE high-net-worth investors allocating the highest share of their portfolios to transition investments across all surveyed markets,' said Rola Abu Manneh, CEO, UAE, Middle East and Pakistan, Standard Chartered. 'This growing momentum supports the country's Net Zero 2050 vision and reflects a broader shift towards low-carbon, future-focused investment strategies.' Trump announces 'massive' Japan trade deal including 15% tariff
US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday a "massive" trade deal with Japan, cutting a threatened 25-per cent tariff to 15 per cent ahead of an August 1 deadline. Trump has vowed to hit dozens of countries with punitive tariffs if they don't strike a deal with the United States by next month. So far, Trump has only announced pacts with Japan, Britain, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia, while talks continue with other trade partners. "We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made," Trump said on his Truth Social platform. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. Trump said that under the deal, "Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90 per cent of the Profits." He did not provide further details on the unusual investment plan, but said the deal "will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs." Japanese imports into the United States were already subject to a 10-percent tariff, which would have risen to 25 per cent on August 1 without a deal. Duties of 25 percent on Japanese autos — an industry accounting for eight percent of Japanese jobs — were also already in place, as well as 50 per cent on steel and aluminum. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Wednesday in Tokyo that the autos levy was cut to 15 per cent. "We are the first (country) in the world to reduce tariffs on automobiles and auto parts, with no limits on volume," he told reporters. "We think it is a great achievement that we were able to get the largest cut (in tariffs) among countries which have trade surpluses with the US," he said. This sent Japanese auto stocks soaring on Wednesday, including Toyota which rocketed more than 12 percent. US-bound shipments of Japanese cars tumbled 26.7 percent in June, stoking fears that Japan could fall into a technical recession. Last year vehicles accounted for around 28 per cent of Japan's 21.3 trillion yen ($142 billion) of exports to the world's biggest economy. To Trump's annoyance, US-made cars sell poorly in Japan, with only hundreds sold annually for the likes of General Motors, compared to millions of Toyotas bought by US motorists. The US president also wanted Japan to increase imports of rice, the price of which has soared in recent months in the Asian giant, and of US oil and gas. Rice imports? But Trump said Tuesday that Japan has agreed to "open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things." Rice imports are a sensitive issue in Japan, and Ishiba's government -- which lost its upper house majority in elections on Sunday -- had previously ruled out any concessions. Ishiba, whose future is uncertain following the election, said on Wednesday that the deal does not sacrifice Japan's agricultural sector. Trump has been under pressure to wrap up trade pacts after promising a flurry of deals ahead of his August 1 tariff deadline. Earlier on Tuesday, he announced a deal had been reached with the Philippines which would see the country face 19 per cent tariffs on its exports. The White House also laid out details of a deal with Indonesia, which would see it ease critical mineral export restrictions and also face a 19 per cent tariff, down from a threatened 32 per cent. Indonesian goods deemed to have been transshipped to avoid higher duties elsewhere, however, will be tariffed at 40 per cent, a US official told reporters Tuesday. After an escalatory tit-for-tat with China, the two major economies agreed to a temporary lowering of tariffs, with another round of negotiations expected next week in Stockholm. Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has imposed a sweeping 10 percent tariff on allies and competitors alike, alongside steeper levels on steel, aluminum and autos. Legal challenges to Trump's non-sectoral tariffs are ongoing.

About $2 million in crypto funds intended for Hamas seized by US
About $2 million in cryptocurrency assets intended for Hamas has been seized by the US government, recently unsealed court forfeiture documents from the US Department of Justice have shown. According to court filings, the digital currency was held in Tether and Binance accounts connected through BuyCash, a 'Gaza-based money transfer business' allegedly involved in helping to finance Hamas. 'Terrorist organisations like Hamas and their affiliates rely on shadowy financial networks to fund their deadly operations,' US Attorney General Pam Bondi said. 'By seizing millions in cryptocurrency, the Justice Department is aggressively dismantling the financial infrastructure of terrorism and refusing to allow our digital currency platforms to become safe havens for terrorist financing.' The court filings said a man named Ahmed Alaqad, a partial owner of the BuyCash operation, is also suspected of supporting groups including ISIS and Al Qaeda. Unsealed court documents accuse him of 'materially supporting Hamas' after the group's attack on Israel in October 2023. According to the Department of Justice, the specific method of transferring funds through digital assets is likely to have resulted in Hamas receiving as much as $4 million previously. 'These types of money transfers are a classic money laundering technique, as they intend to disguise the nature, location, ownership and control of the funds being transferred,' the court filings said. Despite growing enthusiasm for crypto, there is still plenty of scepticism. Unlike fiat currencies, crypto mostly lacks an overall regulatory apparatus and is largely decentralised, making it appealing to groups with nefarious intentions. In May, a man in the US was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of converting $185,000 to cryptocurrency and transferring it to ISIS. In March, an investigation originating from the FBI's field office in New Mexico led to the seizure of $201,400 in cryptocurrency assets that was intended to finance Hamas.
