Katara opens 3rd 'No Limits to My Abilities' exhibition

Msheireb Museums' Summer Programme advances cultural education

The programme's initial success stems to Msheireb Museums' distinctive approach to cultural preservation – moving beyond traditional display methods to create immersive, participatory experiences that connect the country's heritage with contemporary creative expression. July achievements through strategic collaboration The partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) and Doha Design District (DDD) delivered outstanding cultural learning experiences: Interior Design: Past Meets Present enabled participants to examine Radwani House's traditional architectural principles whilst developing contemporary design solutions that honour cultural authenticity. Creative Msheireb Patterns engaged participants in exploring Msheireb's distinctive architectural vocabulary through design-focused art techniques and the Arabic Calligraphy workshops preserved classical Dewani script traditions through heritage-inspired narrative creation. Moreover, CamelCode's innovative technology integration proved particularly successful, with Reviving the Past Through Robotics demonstrating how contemporary tools can enhance historical understanding. The Memory-Inspired Game Design sessions encouraged participants to recreate family and community narratives into interactive digital experiences, offering a contemporary way to engage with heritage through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital media. August programming: connecting heritage with creativity Building upon July's achievements, the August programming continues to showcase a range of workshops led by VCUarts Qatar, in collaboration with DDD, inviting participants to connect with Qatar's cultural heritage through both traditional craftsmanship and modern artistic techniques. The sessions include digital art inspired by Qatari architecture, clay and storytelling activities designed for younger participants, and visual storytelling using collage and illustration based on Msheireb's cultural themes. Alongside these, CamelCode continues to offer its technology-focused workshops, enabling participants to engage with heritage through robotics, memory-inspired game design, and immersive virtual experiences. This month features the comprehensive Inclusive Discovery Outing Camp by Life Skills Hub, running from 3 to 28 August at Msheireb Museums This pioneering programme ensures cultural accessibility for children and young adults with diverse learning requirements through specially designed activities, educational outings, and sensory experiences. 'The success of this summer programme demonstrates how strategic partnerships can transform heritage education. By combining DDD's design expertise with Msheireb's cultural vision and the excellence of various stakeholders, we're creating meaningful pathways for young people to engage with Qatar's rich architectural heritage while developing contemporary creative skills,' noted Dana Kazic, director of Doha Design District. EU Youth Short Film Festival returns for second edition
Tribune News Network Doha The EU Youth Short Film Festival is back for its highly anticipated second edition, taking place on November 24- 25, 2025 at the vibrant Doha Sands Beach. This year's festival promises another unforgettable celebration of creativity, cultural storytelling, and youth voices from Qatar and the European Union. With a special thematic spotlight on 'Women in Focus: Empowerment Through Storytelling' on the second day, the festival will continue to explore bold ideas and human stories through the lens of young filmmakers. 'The Delegation of the European Union to the State of Qatar invites Qatari filmmakers under the age of 35 to submit their short films for consideration,' the organisers said in a statement. As part of the festival, a panel of international and local experts will award prizes in two categories: Best Picture and Best Screenplay. Last year's Best Picture award went to Olayan by Qatari filmmaker Khalifa Al Marri, a touching story of a young Bedouin boy and his camel. The Best Screenplay award went to It's Nice in Here by Dutch filmmaker Robert-Jonathan Koeyers. Two Qatari films, Through Her Eyes by Lolwa Al Jassim and A Simple Cut by Maha Al Jufairi, received Honourable Mentions for their powerful storytelling and social themes. This year's winners will be celebrated during an award ceremony on the closing night of the festival. Tribune News Network Doha Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art is inviting the public to experience its current exhibitions before they close on August 9, 2025. On view since April 19, the three exhibitions — Qatar: Close to my Soul – Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani; Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices; and Wafa al-Hamad: Sites of Imagination — are part of the Qatar Creates Spring/Summer 2025 season. Qatar: Close to my Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani exhibition presents paintings, sculptures and installations alongside archival materials that collectively tell the story and history of Qatari art, artists and movements. Featuring a number of significant works and artists, the exhibition highlights the diverse artistic approaches that have emerged across generations since the 1960s. The exhibition is curated by Fatma Mostafawi. Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices exhibition, curated by Matthieu Orléan, features the works of more than 40 filmmakers and video artists from across the Arab world, Africa, Southeast Asia, and other areas within the Global South. The exhibition explores themes of exile, migration and the complex dynamics of transnational crossings, taking visitors through seven galleries, each with its own theme. This includes deserts (cradles of civilisation and places of rebirth), ruins (relics of culture), borders (demarcations between allowed and forbidden places) and exile. Produced by Qatar Museums, in collaboration with Media City Qatar the featured films have been co-financed or initiated by Doha Film Institute and are on view alongside video works from the collections of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the future Art Mill Museum. Lastly, the Wafa al-Hamad: Sites of Imagination exhibition is dedicated to the late Qatari artist who was known for her experimentation with abstraction and Arabic letter. Al-Hamad's works showcase paintings of figures and landscapes incorporating vibrant colours and organic shapes while also paying homage to Qatari traditions. The exhibition also highlights other pioneering Arab female artists, including Madiha Omar, Nadira Mahmoud, Balqees Fakhro, Samia Halaby, Naziha Salem and Helen Khal.
