Cameras Catch Kate Middleton's Mom Carole Sharing a Warm Welcome with a Surprise Royal at Wimbledon
The royal in question? None other than the Duchess of Gloucester, who was seen sharing a warm welcome with Kate Middleton's mom, Carole. Both were dressed stylishly, with Carole wearing a striped pleated dress and the Duchess sporting a white blazer with a sophisticated brown clutch. Both appeared to be enjoying the matches, laughing and smiling throughout the day's events. And while the Duchess's Wimbledon showing was a welcome surprise, it's not the first unexpected pop-up from a royal to happen during this tournament.

Duchess Sarah Ferguson also made a surprise appearance during the first day of the tournament with her daughter Princess Beatrice, sitting in the Royal Box as they watched defending men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz take on Fabio Fognini. It was just Duchess Fergie's third time attending the tournament after her first appearance with her best friend, Princess Diana, in the 1990s, and her second appearance in 2000.

As for the Duchess of Gloucester, it's good to see her getting some downtime after a busy period of work. According to the Royal Family's official website, "The Duchess of Gloucester is a full-time working member of the Royal Family" who "takes great pride in the work which she undertakes for her many charities and organizations."

This includes supporting her husband, the Duke of Gloucester, in both the national and international events he attends throughout the year in support of the King and his duties as Head of State.

Julia Garner addresses fan backlash to ‘gender-swapped' Fantastic Four casting
Julia Garner has responded to the initial backlash she faced for her casting in The Fantastic Four reboot. Last April, the 31-year-old Emmy-winning Ozark star joined the cast of Marvel Studios' new film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. At first, it was believed that she would be taking on the role of a female version of the iconic Silver Surfer character who appeared in earlier comics. However, it was later confirmed that Garner will, in fact, be starring as Shalla-Bal, the immortal Empress of Zenn-La and lover of the Silver Surfer/Norrin Radd. Speaking to the BBC on Friday at the UK launch of the reboot, the Inventing Anna actor was asked about her reaction to the criticism she first received when it was assumed she was taking on a 'gender-swapped' Silver Surfer. 'I'm just going to still do my job,' she remembered thinking, 'and also it's Shalla-Bal so it's different.' Fan negativity didn't last long, however, as the first trailer, released in February, was widely well-received. 'I was just happy that people are resonating with it and just like any other project,' Garner added of the secondary praise. 'So I'm grateful to be at this dance, to be completely honest with you.' Garner previously spoke about her confusion when she was first approached for the role. 'I was confused because I was like, 'Wait, isn't the Silver Surfer a man?' I was just like, 'Okay, well, I'll play anything,'' she told Entertainment Weekly in April. 'Then [director Matt Shakman] was explaining to me that it's actually Shalla-Bal and that whole thing.' Shalla-Bal was originally introduced in Marvel Comics' The Silver Surfer #1 in August 1968. She has never appeared in a live-action movie until now. 'I knew who the Silver Surfer was, and I got to know the Silver Surfer more when I signed on to the project. I really dived in,' she added. 'I read a lot of the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer comics before starting the project, and I knew that this Fantastic Four was going to be told in a very different way than even the other movies.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. Out in theaters July 25, the movie arrives 20 years after the 2005 adaptation, which featured Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, Jessica Alba, and Chris Evans as the leading quartet. It will represent the first time all four characters will join the interlinking Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Kate praises ‘brave' boy with cancer as royals visit Wimbledon
The Princess of Wales told an 11-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer that he was a 'brave boy' as she visited Wimbledon with the Prince of Wales, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The royals visited the tennis tournament to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz take on world number one Jannik Sinner in the men's singles final on Sunday, with Kate set to present the trophy to the winner. Before entering Centre Court, the family met 11-year-old Ambrose Caldecott, who has undergone chemotherapy over the last year and was chosen to perform the ceremonial coin toss before the final. Ambrose, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in March 2024, told Kate about his experiences, to which she replied: 'What a brave boy you've been. 'Good luck today, we'll be cheering you on.' The princess, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, confirmed she was free from the disease at the start of this year. Speaking about his conversation with Kate, Ambrose told the PA news agency: 'We spoke about tennis, our favourite sports, what I went through last year and how it affected me.' The 11-year-old added: 'She said she knew from her experience in my situation.' Ambrose was chosen to perform the coin toss to represent The Junction Elite Project, a Wandsworth-based charity that provides developmental sporting experiences to young people. The royals also met British pair Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool who made Wimbledon history on Saturday by winning the men's doubles title. The duo are the first all-British pairing to win the title since Pat Hughes and Raymond Tuckey lifted the trophy in 1936. Cash, 28, told the PA news agency: 'It was an absolute pleasure to meet them today. 'They're all fans of the tennis so it was really nice to meet them.' Asked about his conversation with the royals, Cash said: 'They asked about the final yesterday, how it felt to win at home and make history. 'They were asking about the heat as well, and a little bit about my celebrations.' Discussing his celebrations, Cash said: 'My head was a little bit sore this morning but it was a fantastic day. I loved having family and friends here. 'We play so many weeks on the road, so to have them here, to lift that trophy with them is really special.' The royals also met ball girl Sienna, 18, from Wimbledon High, and ball boy, Dennis from Wilson's School. Dennis, 17, said it was a 'really unique experience' to meet the royals. Discussing the conversation, he added: 'They mainly asked us about training, how long it takes, how hard it is, and they told us to stay hydrated.' The royals also met television presenter Steve Backshall, who is a Wimbledon Ambassador and disability sports coach Temi Johnson, 28. Kate, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, received a standing ovation when she arrived on Centre Court on Saturday to watch the women's singles final. The princess told runner-up Amanda Anisimova to keep her 'head high' after the American suffered a heavy defeat in Saturday's final. Kate consoled Anisimova, who was in tears, as she presented her runner-up prize. The princess then presented the trophy to Polish player Iga Swiatek, who won the title for the first time by beating Anisimova 6-0 6-0 in a final which lasted only 57 minutes. Swiatek said receiving the trophy from the princess was 'surreal', adding that Kate told her 'some nice stuff about the performance' on Centre Court. Last year, Kate presented the Wimbledon men's final trophy to Alcaraz in her second public engagement since she announced her cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were seen in the royal box on Monday, with the Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Gloucester also in attendance.
