Country singer Conner Smith involved in fatal truck-pedestrian crash in Nashville
"The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment," the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release. "There are no charges at present as the investigation continues."

The woman, identified as Dorothy Dobbins, lived nearby, according to police. She was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins died at nearby Vanderbilt University Medical Center, police said.
The viral "I Hate Alabama" singer saw his 2023 tune "Creek Will Rise" climb onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 2024. He has been a special guest on Luke Bryan's Farm Tour, an annual effort aimed at bringing what Bryan calls "big city" country music to rural areas. Farm Tour 2025 hit California's Merced, Fresno and Kern counties in May and will play three Midwest shows in September.
"His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' Smith's attorney told TMZ in a statement that acknowledged the singer's involvement in the crash and indicated he was cooperating with authorities.
Smith is among the acts scheduled to open for Bryan this Saturday in Florida at the Boston Red Sox "Fenway South" spring-training facility in Fort Myers. He has shows booked around the country through the summer, including opening for "In Case You Didn't Know" singer Brett Young on Aug. 8 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.

Splat: Prime Minister Carney struggles to flip perfect pancake at Calgary Stampede
CALGARY - Prime Minister Mark Carney may be a deft hand when it comes to handling finances, but he proved Saturday that his flapjack flipping could use some work. Carney attended a pancake breakfast Saturday hosted by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which attracted a crowd of about 200 people. 'The grill's hot,' Carney told onlookers. 'You guys ready?' Sizzling on a black, flattop griddle, Carney slid his spatula under the first hotcake and flipped it, landing with a splat. In an attempt to redeem himself, he tossed a second into the air, but it, too, landed lopsided and sent batter splatters into the crowd. 'I was better in Ottawa,' Carney joked. 'I got a little cocky there. I'll take responsibility.' Sliding the two pancake mishaps to the side, Carney said: 'These are mine. I'm not making anyone eat these.' The prime minister asked if anyone had watched 'The Galloping Gourmet,' a cooking show that aired from the late 1960s and the early '70s. 'He'd be like, 'Here's one I made earlier,'' said Carney, taking a perfectly-made pancake and placing it on the griddle. One onlooker told the prime minister, 'You're even worse at (flipping pancakes) than Trudeau.' 'There are certain things at my job I'm better at,' Carney quipped. 'I'm better at eating pancakes ... I'm better at Eggo waffles.' The prime minister shook hands and took photos with many people attending the breakfast. He also ran into Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who took part in some pancake flipping earlier this week with Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek. 'The premier's here. I love your blue hat. It looks like you've got a whole collection,' Carney said. 'I do and I can't wear the same colour all the time,' Smith said. 'But I hear you have a little work to do on your flipping skills.' 'I do,' Carney replied. 'There's video evidence. I'm not going to deny it.' Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was also attending the breakfast, but waited in his vehicle until Carney left. Smith told Carney that she and Ontario Premier Doug Ford were going to sign a memorandum of understanding on energy, priorities and trade. Caitlyn Jenner's manager Sophia Hutchins died in an ATV accident in Malibu on Wednesday, TMZ, People and multiple other outlets have reported. She was 29. Hutchins was pronounced dead at the site of the accident Wednesday morning, law enforcement and family sources told TMZ, which reported that Hutchins was riding the ATV on the road where Jenner lives when she hit the bumper of a moving car, forcing the ATV over the shoulder and 350 feet down into a ravine. Hutchins and Jenner met around the time the former Olympian came out as a transgender woman and became close friends, so much so that there were rumors the two were romantically involved, which Hutchins strongly denied in a 2019 New York Times profile. 'We were never romantically involved,' she said matter-of-factly, the Times reported, saying tabloid reports of a relationship between her and Jenner continued, 'because we weren't addressing it.' She added, 'I don't feel a need to address my sex life, quite frankly, unless I want to.' Hutchins and Jenner met through the former's makeup artist at a photo shoot, Hutchins told the Times. 'Having a similar sense of humor, we spent the entire time laughing and ended up meeting for brunch, and we've been great friends ever since,' she said, later explaining that she saw an opportunity to guide Jenner's business endeavors. Recent vandalism won't erase LGBTQ+ community in central Newfoundland: advocate
ST. JOHN'S - An advocate in central Newfoundland says the LGBTQ+ community is standing tall despite recent vandalism appearing to target a rainbow crosswalk and Pride flag. Lexi MacDonald with Pride Grand Falls-Windsor says the vandalism reflects a crisis of empathy, but that LGBTQ+ people in central Newfoundland 'are not going anywhere.' RCMP say a rainbow crosswalk in front of a school in Botwood, N.L., about 35 kilometres northeast of Grand Falls-Windsor, was vandalized with spray paint earlier this week. Meanwhile, Natalie Smith says someone shot out a window in her Grand Falls-Windsor gift shop last month for the second time in two years. Smith says anti-LGBTQ+ hate is on the rise and she believes whoever did it may have been targeting the large rainbow Pride flag hanging in the window.
