MNPD: Driver found with stolen gun, drugs after leading high-speed chase on I-24
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 26-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after police said he drove at speeds of up to 110 mph Thursday night in an attempt to evade from officers. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers were in the area of Bell Road and Interstate 24 when they observed a Dodge Charger traveling 20 mph over the speed limit. Man robbed of $30K Rolex after meeting woman on Broadway, police say Law enforcement reportedly attempted to stop the car in the 700 block of Bell Road, but the driver refused to pull over. A police helicopter followed the Charger as it drove on I-24 West at speeds of 110 mph with no lights on in heavy traffic. Officials said the police helicopter crew relayed to ground units that the Charger got off the interstate and entered a Hermitage neighborhood. That's when officers successfully deployed spike strips, causing the driver to drive to a nearby Hickory Highlands Drive apartment complex. Once at the apartment complex, the helicopter crew advised that the driver got out of the vehicle and threw a backpack while running away from officers. The driver—identified as 26-year-old Luis Hernandez—was taken into custody a short time later. | READ MORE | In addition to the backpack found in Hernandez's path, police said they found a second backpack in the Charger. Both backpacks reportedly contained narcotics, including 337.2 grams of meth, 662.8 grams of marijuana, THC products, three digital scales, and plastic baggies. Police said a Glock .380 handgun, which was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in Williamson County, was also recovered from the Charger. According to Metro police, Hernandez was free on a $27,000 bond from a February 2024 arrest for felony marijuana possession, evading arrest, and driving without a license. He reportedly had five outstanding warrants for failure to appear on those charges. Booking records show Hernandez now faces 18 different charges for Thursday's incident, including five counts of failure to appear, felony drug possession, reckless endangerment (motor vehicle), theft of a firearm, evading arrest, gun possession during the commission of a felony, and driving without a license. Man drives to North Nashville fire station after being shot, police say
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway following a shooting that left a motorist injured in Nashville Tuesday night. According to Metro Nashville dispatch, the incident was called in shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 from an address in the 1700 block of Dr. DB Todd Jr. Boulevard that's listed as Nashville Fire Department Station 11. 1 dead, 1 in custody after shooting in Madison The Metro Nashville Police Department told News 2 that a man was shot in the shoulder while driving a rented Tesla. He reportedly drove to the fire station after realizing he'd been shot and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury. Officials said the victim told investigators he heard gunfire while nearing the intersection of Clarksville Pike at Rosa Parks Boulevard. Woman injured in shooting at Whites Creek Pike gas station Detectives are still working to determine the vehicle and suspect involved in the shooting, according to authorities. Pedestrian dead after being hit while walking along Murfreesboro Pike
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A pedestrian died after he was struck by a minivan on Murfreesboro Pike near Edge O Lake Drive Tuesday night, according to Nashville authorities. The Metro Nashville Police Department said the preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Caravan was heading southbound when it hit a man, who was walking in a traffic lane, around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10. Community remembers woman killed while walking dog in Germantown Law enforcement reported the 44-year-old man was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died. Officials are working to notify his family. Police said the driver of the Dodge stayed at the scene, adding that there were no signs of impairment. ⏩ No additional details have been released about Tuesday night's collision. Meanwhile, authorities told News 2 on Wednesday, June 11 that there have been 39 fatalities from crashes so far this year, including five pedestrians and six motorcyclists. Conner Smith, an up-and-coming country singer nominated for new male artist at last year's ACM Awards, allegedly struck a 77-year-old pedestrian Sunday night in Nashville, police said. The woman died. "The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment," the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release. "There are no charges at present as the investigation continues." He has been a special guest on Luke Bryan's Farm Tour, an annual effort aimed at bringing what Bryan calls "big city" country music to rural areas. Farm Tour 2025 hit California's Merced, Fresno and Kern counties in May and will play three Midwest shows in September. "His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' Smith's attorney told TMZ in a statement that acknowledged the singer's involvement in the crash and indicated he was cooperating with authorities. Smith is among the acts scheduled to open for Bryan this Saturday in Florida at the Boston Red Sox "Fenway South" spring-training facility in Fort Myers.
