Francona said finding a clip of Cash striking out wasn't difficult. 'You could have got that clip off most pitchers,' Francona said. 'I'm still trying to figure out why I played him against A.J. Burnett. That was more on me than him.' Light-hearted jabs and creative pranks have gone on for years between the two managers who have a combined 2,876 wins going into Saturday's matchup, with 2004 of those victories belonging to Francona. The Reds are facing the Rays for the first time since Francona was hired as manager in October.
'I've taken my share of jabs, too,' Cash said after seeing the video clip. 'But mine are private.' Their close relationship began when Cash, a catcher, played for Francona in Boston in 2007 and 2008. He was later on Francona's staff in Cleveland in 2013 and 2014. 'The relationship grew (with) how he helped me along the way in the early stages of the interview processes with different clubs,' Cash said. Francona said Friday that he always believed Tampa Bay was the right place for Cash, who owns an 872-750 record in 11 seasons with the Rays, adding that he had the qualities to be a successful skipper. 'He hit like a manager,' Francona said.
It's not the first time Francona has used a scoreboard to prank Cash. During the Rays' visit to Progressive Field in 2017, a scoreboard message asked, 'How bad is Kevin Cash at the plate?' then showed Cash's career statistics, including his .183 batting average. 'All in good fun,' they say. 'Certainly to this day he's probably the first person I'm going to call outside of someone inside the (Tampa Bay) organization for guidance and advice,' Cash said.

'When you look up here, so many great names and what they've achieved. I want to be up there too one day.' The Slovenian superstar had a player option for the 2026-27 season under his previous contract. A person with knowledge of the deal confirmed the terms to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Lakers don't publicly announce the details of contracts. The Lakers acquired Doncic from the Mavericks last February in a seismic trade for Anthony Davis. The five-time All-NBA selection and a five-time All-Star averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game last season while teaming up with LeBron James for 50 victories and the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. Although his debut season in Los Angeles ended with a first-round playoff loss to Minnesota, the high-scoring guard says he greatly enjoyed his first months in Hollywood — enough to commit to the Lakers for the rest of his 20s, and almost certainly beyond. 'It's an honor playing for this organization,' Doncic said. 'Many, many great players played here, so obviously I want to add one more up there. That's what we're working for.' 'The dialogue with him has been open and constant. … The No. 1 thing we have to do (with James' future) is respect him and his family's decision. We want to respect his opportunity to come up with his timetable on that. If he had a chance to retire as a Laker, that would be great.' Doncic's comfort with the Lakers was already obvious in his offseason activity: He played a significant role in Los Angeles' successful bids to sign Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart, helping to persuade the two veterans to team up with him for the upcoming season. The fight went the full five rounds, with Storley once again proving his toughness and resilience under fire from Jean. Despite Storley's relentless wrestling pressure and takedown attempts, it was Jean's striking that stole the show, displaying pinpoint accuracy, fluid combinations and devastating power that kept his opponent on the defensive throughout.
