Cricket: England to host next three World Test Championship finals
The Aussies have played in the past two finals, with a win over India and a loss to South Africa, and are on top of the table again after sweeping the West Indies.
There had been speculation that India could seize hosting rights, but citing a 'successful track record in hosting recent finals', the ICC confirmed England, and most likely Lord's, would host the WTC finals in 2027, 2029 and 2031.
The decision was confirmed at the ICC's annual conference in Singapore and despite England not yet reaching the final, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Richard Gould said it was a boost for the game.
'We are absolutely delighted that England and Wales has been chosen to host the next three ICC World Test Championship finals,' he said.

'It's a testament to the passion that fans in this country have for this treasured format of the game and the willingness of supporters from around the world to travel here for these games.
'Hosting these finals is a privilege, and we look forward to working with the ICC to build on the success of the previous editions.'
The next final, in 2027, coincides with an Australian Ashes tour of England, as it did in 2023 when the Aussies defeated India to claim the WTC title for the first time.
Australia is again on top of the table after a 3-0 series sweet against the West Indies.

Harley Reid's management table ‘biggest deal in AFL history' to Eagles
Harley Reid could be set to put pen to paper on the 'biggest deal in AFL history' with the West Coast Eagles. As Victorian clubs continue to circle the 20-year-old in the hopes of luring him back home, it now appears his future looks likely to remain in Perth. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1. On Sunday it was revealed the young star's management had approached the Eagles to discuss potential contract extensions beyond 2026 when his rookie contract expires. AFL Media reporter Cal Twomey detailed further information behind the offers tabled with one set to rewrite the record books. 'It's hitting crunch time in the contract decision of Harley Reid at the West Coast Eagles,' Twomey told Footy Classified. 'He's had contract offers in front of him since April that have come from the Eagles. But in recent weeks, his management have sent counter offers to the Eagles – and a part of that we can detail tonight include a mammoth offer that would be a two-year extension, plus an extension on top of that of another nine years. So an 11-year arrangement. 'This is groundbreaking, really, in terms of what it would mean for West Coast Eagles and Harley Reid as one of the options. We've seen this in recent times with the contract of Miles Bergman, who signed a two-year deal and then has an understanding with Port Adelaide that he can sign an extra seven years beyond that. So it's not unprecedented. 'But it would be the biggest deal in AFL history by some way and it would take him through to the end of 2037 – which is remarkable to think about – if he was to pursue that all the way through. 'This is enormous in terms of the $20 million-plus that would be on the table.' The staggering potential contract quickly whipped around AFL circles with fans divided on the deal. Lachy Steele wrote on X: 'Absolute insanity. Besides last weekend he hasn't shown he's worth anywhere near that.' ESPN's Jasper Chellappah wrote: 'Think this is really fair from Harley's camp. Commits to the club short term, gives West Coast three years to improve and if they're still a rabble he goes home.' Twomey stated the contract negotiations haven't moved a great deal, leaving the door open for Victorian teams to continue to try and poach him. 'The Eagles are still weighing this up and going through their own negotiation process – and clubs are continuing to hunt him in Victoria,' he said. 'I think Hawthorn are near-on obsessed with Harley Reid in getting him to the club. They want him badly, are willing to go to eight to 10 years at $1.7 million, $1.8 million to get him across the line.' Veteran journalist Caroline Wilson noted that Reid's camp were not interested in joining a rebuilding club if he were to ultimately return home. 'The player and his family have made it clear they do not want to go to a struggling club,' Wilson told Agenda Setters. 'They've got no interest in St Kilda, they've got no interest in Melbourne. I'm not sure if they've got much interest in Essendon at the moment, but Essendon have no interest in that sort of money. 'They (the Bombers) think that Hawthorn is right in there – and Hawthorn say there have been no meaningful talks – others say that Richmond and Melbourne are having a crack. 'I think West Coast also said to the management 'we're not interested in that sort of money' … but what has happened in the last 24 hours is that I think West Coast have come back to the table – and we're talking significantly more than $1.5 million a year.' Kane Cornes questioned if the absurd figures being thrown around would be the right way to go for the young star still trying to find his feet in the game. 'No criticism to him but are West Coast, with the issues they've had with the behaviour of their biggest stars over the journey — is that setting him up in the best possible way to be the best player he can be?' Cornes asked. 'This is what he's going to get every week. 'He gets 20 in the first half (against Richmond), he's on track for career-best numbers and they go 'OK we've had enough of this, we're just going to put a tagger on him'. 'If you play West Coast you are stupid if you don't tag Harley Reid, which is so unfair for him in his second year to cop that. 'It is going to get very, very boring for him playing in that side when he cops that treatment and loses every week.'

Via Sistina, Fangirl and more headline star-studded Randwick trials
The build up to Via Sistina's spring campaign is well and truly underway, with the nine-time Group 1 winner blowing out some cobwebs in a star-studded Randwick trial on Tuesday. It was Via Sistina 's first public appearance since claiming the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships and she wasn't out there to break any records. Star stablemate Fangirl was also present in the 850m hit out and both were given quiet trials as Chris Waller aims them towards the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick next month. 'The 23rd of August they will be racing … if everything goes to plan,' Waller said. 'We allow an extra week just in case for a temperature or sore foot and things like that. 'Nine times out of 10 you need it and sometimes you will see them have an exhibition gallop if they haven't had a problem. 'It's just about being careful. You are a month away so you can imagine how much fitness is going to be done in the next month.' 1⃣ The Novelist 2⃣ More Territories 3⃣ Full Count Felicia The @GaiWaterhouse1 & Adrian Bott gelding too speedy in an 850m Kensington trial on Tuesday - behind them were Extractor, Zardozi, Tom Kitten, Fangirl and Via Sistina. @tabcomau — Racing NSW (@racing_nsw) July 21, 2025 The Novelist won the 850m hit out in a time of 51.48 seconds, covering the final 600m in 33.67s. Godolphin's Tom Kitten and Zardozi also featured in the trial – their final time heading to the races under the James Cummings banner. The second heat of the morning also featured a handful of Waller's spring brigade with Autumn Glow, Wodeton, Aeliana and Lazzura returning. The unbeaten Autumn Glow settled up on the pace and finished third in the 850m hit out, won by Palmetto in 51.20s. The last 600m was covered in 33.69s. 1⃣ Palmetto 2⃣ Beiwacht 3⃣ Autumn Glow Basically all the way for @jsargentracing 's Canberra Cup winner in the second 850m Kensington trial on Tuesday - also in this heat Manaal, Pericles, Wodeton, Lazzura and Aeliana. @tabcomau — Racing NSW (@racing_nsw) July 21, 2025 • Autumn Glow is headed towards the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, for which she's rated the $3.50 favourite in futures betting. 'She would resume in one of the sprint handicaps or set weight fillies and mares races to get to the Epsom third-up,' Waller said. Meanwhile, Waller has the Group 1 Golden Rose circled on the calendar for Wodeton, with that run to decide the rest of his spring campaign. 'He (Wodeton) looks like he has come back really well and we will go to the Golden Rose. 'Then it will be Coolmore or (Caulfield) Guineas but I think 1400m will suit him better. 'He will be ready to go before the Run To The Rose. 'We could run two or three weeks before, being up this early 'But because he went out after the Golden Slipper, they actually had a long break so he is up ready to go.' Nepotism at $4.

John Singleton selects Hesitate to run in his slot in 2025 TAB Eureka at Menangle
John Singleton has pinned his hopes on exciting three-year-old Hesitate to give him back-to-back wins in the world's richest harness race. Hesitate, part-owned and formerly trained in Victoria by Damien Burns and Scott Petrie, was confirmed in Singleton's $2.1 million TAB Eureka slot today. It came after Hesitate ran a terrific second to star Kiwi pacer Rubira in last Saturday night's Group 1 Queensland Derby at Albion Park. Insiders say there was strong competition from a rival slot owner to secure Hesitate. Singleton teamed with champion trainer-driver Luke McCarthy to win last year's TAB Eureka with subsequent Inter Dominion and Miracle Mile winner Don Hugo. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'Our team think Hesitate is a horse on the up at the right time and that it's a year where the three-year-olds can win the TAB Eureka,' Singleton said. 'Bay Of Biscay got close last year and the belief is this three-year-old crop is even stronger than last year. 'It was exciting to win the race (TAB Eureka) in just its second year last year and we would love to go back and do it again.' The TAB Eureka is restricted to three and four-year-old Australian-bred pacers, but a three-year-old is yet to win it. RUBIRA TOO STRONG! ðŸ'° The @AllStarsRacing_ pacer takes out the @ladbrokescomau Queensland Derby! Driver Adam Sanderson makes it back-to-back Derby’s in the bike - the first ever to do so! ðŸ'¥ #QLDisRacing — RaceQ (@RaceQLD) July 19, 2025 The Emma Stewart-trained Bay Of Biscay came closest last year when he flew home late for second to Don Hugo. For McCarthy, Hesitate securing a slot gives him the chance to remain unbeaten in the TAB Eureka. He drove the Emma Stewart-trained Encipher to win in 2023 and won with Don Hugo last year. Hesitate has raced just 23 times for 11 wins and five seconds. He ran second to exciting Kiwi pacer Rubira in last Saturday night's Group 1 Queensland Derby at Albion Park. 'I'm thrilled this horse (Hesitate) is in. I never doubted he'd get a slot, he's so good, but it's great to have it confirmed so we can just focus on the best pathway to the race now rather than having to prove anything to anyone,' McCarthy said. 'He's a genuine winning chance in a race like the TAB Eureka. He's got so much speed and the preferential draws the three-year-olds get is a big factor. 'He'll have a few easy days after the Derby run and then we'll have a look for the most suitable lead-up races between now and the Eureka. He'll be an even better horse by then than he is now.' Hesitate's managing owner Mick Harvey added: 'We were already well advanced in talks with Singo's team and they obviously liked what they saw in the Derby. 'Luke's got a huge opinion of this horse and each run is a learning curve. He should be right where we want home by TAB Eureka night. 'As many have said, there's a bit of a question mark on the depth of the four-year-olds this year, while we know this is a really strong batch of three-year-olds and Hesitate is clearly one of the best of them. 'It's also super exciting to team with somebody like Singo, who has done so much for racing and been a huge supporter of the TAB Eureka from day one.'
