Is Karen Pirie based on a true story?
The much-loved new series has left many viewers asking the same question – is it based on real-life events?

EastEnders actress Emer Kenny stars as River Wilde in Karen Pirie and also adapted the series from Val McDermid's crime novels
Is Karen Pirie based on a true story?
ITV's new drama Karen Pirie is not based on a true story.
The series was adapted for television by actress and screenwriter, Emer Kenny – who also stars in the drama alongside the show's lead, Lauren Lyle.
And while the characters are entirely fictional, Lyle explained what real-life research went into becoming Karen.
Lyle said: "It was really interesting when we were filming, we started at St Andrews Cathedral and one night we had police escorts with us.
"One of them was a 20-something blonde woman, and it turns out she was a detective from Methil, the same tiny town Karen is from! To me, she was the real Karen Pirie.
"So we exchanged numbers and we stayed in touch, it was like looking into a mirror for Karen."
Is Karen Pirie based on a book?
Karen Pirie is the work of best-selling Scottish writer Val McDermid and the first season came from her book The Distant Echo, while the second season is adapted from Val's novel A Darker Domain.
Val's novels have sold over 17 million copies worldwide, and this isn't the first time they have been adapted for the small screen.
Her Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series were used as the basis for ITV crime drama Wire In The Blood.
Who is in the second season of Karen Pirie?
As mentioned above, Lauren Lyle is the lead actor and Emer Kenny, who adapted the novel for the ITV show, joins the cast as River Wilde.
Other cast members in season two include:
DC Jason 'Mint' Murray - Chris Jenks
DS Phil Parhatka - Zach Wyatt
River Wilde - Emer Kenny
DCS Simon Lees - Steve John Shepherd
DI Anderson - Thoren Ferguson
Isla - Saskia Ashdown

Sir Broderick Grant - James Cosmo
Lady Mary Grant - Frances Tomelty

List of prohibited items for Murrayfield as countdown to Oasis continues
Oasis are to take to the Edinburgh stage for three nights in August. The countdown to the Gallagher's much-anticipated gigs at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium is officially underway, with just over two weeks to go until Oasis take the Scottish stage for the first time in 15 years. And with over 67,000 fans attending each of the three nights, which take place on August 8, 9 and 12, it's definitely time to start planning what to bring and how to get there. We've covered public transport options and road closures, but another important thing to consider is what you're planning on bringing into the stadium. Murrayfield has strict rules on what you can and cannot bring into the concert venue, so it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with them ahead of the event. Security staff will be searching every single fan on entry, so it's vital you don't bring any contraband which could get confiscated or cause delays at the gate. Here's everything you need to know about which items you're allowed to take into the Edinburgh Oasis concerts, and which will see you held up by security. Which items are prohibited from Murrayfield Stadium? A number of items are banned from Murrayfield, including: Bags larger than A4 (30cm x 21cm) Only bags smaller than an A4 sheet of paper are allowed into the gig. There is also no bag drop policy, so be wary not to break this rule or your bag may be confiscated. However, bags required to carry medical or childcare items are an exception, and those with these bags are to enter via the dedicated turnstiles. Knives or weapons Possession of any dangerous or hazardous items may constitute a criminal offence and will be reported to Police Scotland. Food or drink All food and drink from outside the venue is prohibited from taking in on entry. Exceptions include an unopened soft plastic water bottle of no bigger than 500ml, or an empty collapsible water bottle of the same size which you can refill in the venue. If you don't already have a collapsible water bottle, some cheap options are available, such as this one from Amazon, which retails at £9.99. Alternatively, this Decathlon option from Argos is available for £12. Flasks and hard water bottles Hard water bottles and hip flasks, as well as thermos flasks and metal drinks containers are all banned from Murrayfield. If you arrive with one of these, you will be required to bin it upon entry. Fireworks, flares and smoke bombs Possession of fireworks, smoke bombs, flares or other pyrotechnic items will result in a report to Police Scotland as they may constitute a criminal offence. Banners or flags which contain offensive or abusive slogans Banners or flags with statements that may be considered racist, homophobic, political or discriminatory will also be confiscated. Small flags and banners are permitted but the venue says that any flag or banner, irrelevant of content, which is larger than 12inches x 16inches (30cm x 41cm) with poles longer than 1m in length, or thicker than one inch (2.5cm) will not be permitted into the stadium. Musical instruments Don't bring your guitar expecting to be invited up on stage for Wonderwall- only the band are allowed to bring their instruments. Umbrellas of any size Scotland may be rainy, but you'll need a rain jacket or waterproof poncho as your umbrella won't make it through the Murrayfield gates. Laser pointers and torches Don't bring a torch or laser pointer. Air horns, party poppers and silly string are also prohibited. Animals All animals except guide dogs are forbidden, and those bringing an assistance dog should make Customer Services aware ahead of the gig. Large cameras Cameras with a lens of more than three inches or with a detachable lens aren't allowed either, and it must be possible for any camera you're bringing in to fit comfortably into a pocket or bag. Audio recording equipment This includes laptops and iPads. Tripods and selfie sticks You may want to record moments of the upcoming concerts, but gig goers shouldn't bring any large equipment with them, including selfie sticks or tripods. Loose Women's Jane Moore 'in shock' as she recalls last meeting with Ozzy Osbourne
Loose Women star Jane Moore made a special appearance on the lunchtime chat show to recall her friendship with the late Black Sabbath star Ozzy Osbourne following his death TV star Jane Moore has recalled her last meeting with her close friend Ozzy Osbourne before he died. The Loose Women star, 63, was close friends with the Black Sabbath rocker and his wife Sharon. And, following his death on Tuesday at the age of 76 following numerous health issues, she has recalled going to his final gig just weeks ago and explained that he was "nervous" before he went on stage. The journalist is currently on holiday but appeared on the ITV lunchtime show via video link where she spoke of her 'shock' at his death. She said: "It was an incredible shock. I'm on holiday out in France and I first got a call mid-afternoon. To be honest, I didn't believe it. Ozzy has been subject to so many online hoaxes about his death over the years so I just thought it was another one. I only saw him just over two weeks ago when he did his farewell concert with Black Sabbath in Villa Park Birmingham, which is just a couple of minutes from the house he grew up in. "As everyone knows, Ozzy, because of Parkinson's, was in a wheelchair so they had to work out how to get out of him. Quite an achievement, he sang four solo songs and then four with Black Sabbath sitting down." Discussing her last meeting with Ozzy, which occurred backstage before the gig, Jane said: "Sharon took me to see him in his dressing room just before he went on stage and he was nervous because it was his home town and his home crowd but it was an unqualified success. " Jane also pointed out just how "sad" Ozzy's passing is because he was very much compos mentis up until the end, as she said: "I stayed for a bit after the concert and when I left, there was loads of crowds still hanging around. Big, tough looking biker fans just crying with joy at having seen their idol. It's incredibly sad because mentally, he was still there." The former I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here star, who spoke to Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan, Kelle Bryan and Sue Cleaver, even moved in with the Osbourne clan when she was working as a ghost writer on Sharon's memoir and recalled having early morning chats with the late rock star during that time, and explained: "I'd wake up very early in the morning, write up yesterday's notes before the next day started. But Ozzy used to get up really early to talk to me and because I trained as a journalist in Birmingham, I'm used to the accent so I could understand it when a lot of people in LA just didn't know what he was saying. He was so he was pleased to have someone to chat with, and he had so many funny stories." Last year, Jane was invited to interview Sharon on her UK tour, and spoke about how the pair were dedicated to each other right up until the end despite the 'tempestuous' nature of their marriage. She said: "They had a tempestuous marriage, I did a Sharon with tour last year, she did a talk show on stage where I interviewed her. "She's probably the most honest person I've interviewed in my life. She freely admitted they were co-dependent, she said 'I can't live without him and he can't live without me...' and he used to say the same." News of Ozzy's death broke on Wednesday evening, and it came after a number of health woes for the legendary music star. The family statement announcing his death read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. "We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis." The family message was preceded by a location stamp, that read: "Birmingham, England July 22, 2025" - revealing that Ozzy made it back home for one last time.
