Expedite delayed development projects in Melaka

The Sun10-06-2025
MELAKA: Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has urged state government departments and agencies to expedite delayed development projects to ensure that the Melaka Budget 2025's development target can be achieved.
Development allocation specifically for Melaka for 2025 was RM88 million and as of May 31, RM19.52 million, 22.18 per cent, of the allocation has been spent, with remaining allocation totalling RM68.48 million or 77.82 per cent, he added.
'A total of 86 projects have been completed, 100 are being implemented and 55 have yet to begin, so in the remaining six months, all delayed projects need to be prioritised and expedited to ensure we hit the set development target,' he said during his speech at the Melaka Development Budget 2026 engagement session, which was also attended by Melaka state secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad here today.
He also said that 913 project applications involving RM157.86 million in allocations were received during today's engagement session, adding that they would be fine-tuned to ensure they provided clear impact and focused on the public's needs and welfare.
'We need to ensure projects approved can be implemented as best as possible as over 60 per cent of the state development budget allocations are from state revenue,' he said.

Melaka forms special task force to tackle traffic congestion

MELAKA: The state has formed a special task force to tackle traffic congestion and improve driving experience, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. The Melaka Chief Minister said the task force brings together technical experts and enforcement agencies to coordinate traffic management strategies and address bottlenecking at key locations. "This move reflects our commitment to addressing public concerns about congestion and to efficiently serve the people," he said after launching a new 3km link road connecting Serkam and Bemban in Jasin here on Thursday (July 3). Ab Rauf also announced that the Federal Government had given the green light to nine major road projects and upgrades, now at various stages of implementation. Among the projects, he said, are the RM300mil upgrade of Jalan Tun Hamzah from the JPJ junction to Semabok, scheduled to begin in December 2025; an RM181mil elevated and direct U-turn linking Pulau Gadong to Taman Cheng; a new RM125mil road from Kuala Linggi to Ayer Molek in Masjid Tanah, set to commence in March 2026 and a RM35.2mil road from the Rim junction to Kampung Ulu Jasin, slated for completion by August 2025. On the Serkam-Bemban link, Ab Rauf said that the dual-lane road was proposed in 2021 and completed ahead of schedule. "This link not only shortens the journey, it boosts accessibility, supports economic activity and enhances the well-being of communities," he said.

Melaka waives business licence fees for 1,300 petty traders hit by storm

MELAKA: The Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) is offering a special incentive in the form of a three-month exemption from business licence fees to 1,300 petty traders under 10 main organisers following a recent storm. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the measure will be implemented when they apply for the renewal of their MBMB licences later. He said this involves 500 petty traders at Jonker Walk, Uptown Klebang Walk (280), Uptown Pahlawan Walk (195), Medan Samudera, Floating Market and Vintage Night Market (80 each). "In addition, Tun Teja and Harbour Street Market (50 petty traders each), Tun Mamat Kampung Morten (40), and Taman Bunga Merdeka (30). "The state government is very concerned about the difficulties faced by the traders and hopes this step will ease their financial burden and help revive the business operations affected," he said in a Facebook post here tonight. He added that in the spirit of solidarity, the state government also called on all organisers involved to consider offering additional incentives at their respective levels, such as a one-month site rental discount or any other form of appropriate assistance. "We stand together through hardship and ease. This is the caring Melaka that always puts the people first," he said.— BERNAMA
