The Melaka Chief Minister said the task force brings together technical experts and enforcement agencies to coordinate traffic management strategies and address bottlenecking at key locations.
"This move reflects our commitment to addressing public concerns about congestion and to efficiently serve the people," he said after launching a new 3km link road connecting Serkam and Bemban in Jasin here on Thursday (July 3).
Ab Rauf also announced that the Federal Government had given the green light to nine major road projects and upgrades, now at various stages of implementation.
Among the projects, he said, are the RM300mil upgrade of Jalan Tun Hamzah from the JPJ junction to Semabok, scheduled to begin in December 2025; an RM181mil elevated and direct U-turn linking Pulau Gadong to Taman Cheng; a new RM125mil road from Kuala Linggi to Ayer Molek in Masjid Tanah, set to commence in March 2026 and a RM35.2mil road from the Rim junction to Kampung Ulu Jasin, slated for completion by August 2025.
On the Serkam-Bemban link, Ab Rauf said that the dual-lane road was proposed in 2021 and completed ahead of schedule.
"This link not only shortens the journey, it boosts accessibility, supports economic activity and enhances the well-being of communities," he said.

Jalan Serkam-Bemban a boost to tourism access to Melaka City
JASIN: The newly opened three-kilometre road connecting Serkam and Bemban will serve as a strategic alternative route for tourists travelling from the south to Melaka, particularly to the main tourist attractions in the city centre via the Jasin Toll, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He said the new road, which links the Jalan Serkam-Bemban junction to the Jalan Kandang junction, would also help shorten travel time by up to five minutes, particularly for local residents travelling from Ayer Molek to the Jasin Toll. Ab Rauf said the RM20.2 million two-lane road project, which began on Nov 15, 2022 and was completed on April 25 this year, was funded through an allocation approved by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry under the First Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan. 'This is an infrastructure project that not only links places but also connects the people's hopes for a brighter future. 'This is not just a road; it is a symbol of inclusive progress that proves the state government has never neglected the needs of the rural population,' he said after officiating the opening of Jalan Serkam-Bemban here today. Ab Rauf said the new road was also the result of close cooperation and shared determination between the state and federal governments, which would continue to serve as a catalyst for a more sustainable, inclusive and competitive Melaka. 'This project is also in line with the Melakaku Maju Jaya Strategic Plan 2035, as we aim to achieve not just rapid physical development but also balanced economic and social growth,' he said. Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the federal government had approved nine new development and road upgrade projects following negotiations and applications submitted by the state government. He said all of the projects were currently at various stages of implementation, with the upgrading of Jalan Tun Hamzah from the JPJ Intersection to Semabok, involving an allocation of RM300 million, expected to begin in December. According to him, the construction of a new road from Kuala Linggi to Ayer Molek, Masjid Tanah, at a cost of RM125 million, is expected to begin in March next year, while the RM35.2 million road from the Rim junction to Kampung Ulu Jasin is slated for completion this August.

Johor led all states in GDP growth last year, says exco man
JOHOR BARU: Johor saw the highest economic growth among states in the country with a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM158bil last year, says exco member Lee Ting Han. The investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman said the state's performance reflected its readiness in spearheading the country's economy. 'The latest figures released by the Statistics Department of Malaysia (DOSM) showed Johor recording the highest GDP growth rate of 6.4% last year, higher than the national average of 5.1%. 'Johor's position as one of the top contributors to the nation's economy is cemented with a GDP value of RM158bil, placing us alongside Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak,' he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 2). In 2023, Johor recorded a GDP of RM148.6bil. He added that last year, the state's construction sector saw double-digit growth to 42.7% from 2023's 12.7%. The state's growth is also driven by the services sector, which grew by 6%, and the manufacturing sector (4.2%), while the agriculture sector recovered to 4.2% after experiencing a decline of 1.3% in 2023, driven by an increase in oil palm production, he said. He pointed out that besides the economic momentum, the state government is collaborating with the Federal Government to implement high-impact projects to boost Johor's competitiveness. These include the expansion of the PLUS North-South Expressway and Senai-Desaru Expressway, elevated autonomous rapid transit in Iskandar Malaysia, public healthcare infrastructure, as well as improving logistics network and port facilities. In terms of policies, Lee said the state is constantly improving the investment and workforce ecosystem via channels such as the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor, an integrated federal-state facilitation platform for investors, and the Johor Talent Development Council. 'Johor's economic landscape is set to change again with the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, a collaborative initiative designed to integrate the economies of Malaysia and Singapore through the easing of investment, mobility and trade. 'The Forest City Special Financial Zone, which is a hotspot for regional finance, digital and trade services, offers appealing tax packages and incentives. 'With this combination of projects and initiatives, along with Johor's strategic position as the gateway to Asean, we are on the right track to emerge as the new driving force of Malaysia's economy,' he said.
