Daily Mail2 days ago
A British holidaymaker has died in hospital after plunging from a supermarket carpark in Ibiza.
The 25-year-old, who has not been named, fell from the Mercadona in the resort of San Antonio, around 8pm local time yesterday.
He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics in two ambulances before being taken to the private Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic on the island.
Overnight it emerged the tourist was fighting for his life in an intensive care unit at a private island hospital.
Today at around midday the hospital confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances of the man's death are still under investigation.
A hospital spokesman said early this morning that the Brit had been admitted just after 9.30pm last night.
Speaking before hearing that the man had died, a well-placed source said: 'Yesterday a 25 year old man fell from the car park of the Mercadona supermarket in San Antonio.
'He was taken by an advanced life support ambulance to the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic where he was admitted at 21:38.
'The patient, a British national, remains in the intensive care unit in a very serious condition after suffering a traumatic brain injury with a skull fracture, dorsal vertebral fractures, chest trauma and a collapsed lung, as well as abdominal injuries and injuries to his spleen and liver all caused by the fall.'
An official at the hospital confirmed the sad news just before 1pm local time today: 'Regrettably and despite all the efforts of medical personnel, the patient who fell yesterday in San Antonio has died due to the severity of his injuries.'
The latest tragedy occurred eight days after a Scots holidaymaker fell to his death at a hotel in Ibiza.
Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, tragically lost his life in the incident at the famous Ibiza Rocks Hotel.
Tragic Evan is thought to have been celebrating on holiday with friends following his birthday last month.
His mother Lel Kellighan, posting on social media, said: 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away.
'We are all absolutely broken. Please allow us some time.'
It comes after a Scottish teenager died in the early hours of August 20 last year after falling from a sixth-floor hotel balcony in Ibiza.
Emma Ramsay, 19, from Hamilton, was on holiday with friends in the party resort of San Antonio.
The tragedy occurred at a seafront four-star adult-only hotel called Hotel Vibra District.
Three days earlier a 28-year-old British holidaymaker died in a 15ft fall at a hotel in Palmanova near Magaluf in Majorca after a night out partying.
The dead man's partner had to be treated for a panic attack later in the day. The incident happened at the four-star Reverence Mare Hotel in Palmanova.
The Civil Guard is understood to have launched an investigation into the latest tragedy. No-one from the police force could be reached early this morning for comment.
It is not yet known where in the UK the dead Brit is from and whether he was on his own when he fell or accompanied by other people.
The height he plunged from has not yet been disclosed.

Body found in Italian Alps in search for missing Hull hiker

Calendar Italy A body has been found in the search for a British hiker who went missing in the Italian Alps, according to reports. Matthew Hall, from Hull, was last seen leaving his accommodation in Chiavenna, in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, to go on a solo hike on Tuesday 8 July. The 33-year-old sent a photograph to a friend from a mountain above the town that afternoon. He then failed to catch his flight home on Saturday. But Lt Gim Toni De Masi, of the local carabinieri police, told media that a body was found at around 7pm on Wednesday night. He said: "He was around 200m below the cross where he had sent a picture, in a crevice in a very dangerous area and a helicopter had to be used to recover him. "We received a call saying someone had spotted something and a team was sent back up the mountain to have a look and the discovery was made." He said Mr Hall's mother, who had travelled to Italy, had been informed. Mr De Masi added: "It is not the outcome we were hoping for, and we send our condolences to his friends and family." His body was taken to a local hospital ahead of being repatriated.

Boy, 11, charged with murder was wanted over string of other violent crimes

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video CCTV appears to show an 11-year-old boy robbing a shop in the days before he was involved in an alleged fatal hit and run in a stolen a car. Messiah Hayes, now 12, has been charged with first-degree murder, with police alleging that four young boys deliberately mowed down cyclist Scott Habermehl, 63, in May last year. Video of the crash was filmed from inside the car and spread on social media. It showed the vehicle swerving into a bike lane in Albuquerque, in New Mexico in the US before hitting Habermehl. The children can be heard egging on the driver to 'bump' the cyclist at 15 to 20 mph. The video allegedly showed the 11-year-old waving a handgun moments before the crash. Officers had no leads as to who killed the cyclist until they received an anonymous tip-off about the video in February this year. Johnathan Overbay, now 13, pleaded guilty in April for being behind the wheel of the car and will stay in juvenile prison until the age of 21. Elijah Engelking, 16, and William Garcia, 16, are also facing murder charges for their alleged involvement in the killing. In new video, revealed by NewsNation, 11-year-old Hayes was allegedly part of a 'smash-and-grab' at an alcohol store less than two weeks before the bicycle crash. The CCTV footage shows four boys blasting through the front doors of the shop before running inside. The youths then proceed to smash alcohol bottles on the floor before running off with some goods. Before Habermehl's death, Hayes was also wanted in connection to break-ins at a primary school and two gun crimes, where he allegedly shot and injured someone. Given the boy's age, he cannot be charged as an adult. The area's attorney, Sam Bregman, said: 'We know that this individual is connected to at least three other incidents. … It is really sad. 'It's a juvenile justice system right now that is really in shambles in New Mexico, and we have to do something about it.' More Trending Speaking at the sentencing of Overbay in May, Habermehl's wife spoke of loneliness since his death. She said: 'They will have to find their forgiveness somewhere else because it won't come from me. 'I can't forgive. I won't forget and I won't forgive. I also won't hate. 'I am scared to grow older without him. I am incredibly lonely.' Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Here's how it could become harder for people-smugglers to reach the UK

Sir Keir Starmer will unveil the latest element in his plan to tackle illegal migration to the UK by working more closely with Europe this afternoon. After announcing a 'one in, one out' policy with French President Emmanuel Macron last Thursday, today it's the turn of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He has come to London for talks with the Prime Minister about closer alliance on issues like defence – and tying up a big loophole exploited by people-smugglers. In Germany, there is currently no law that criminalises the aiding of people-smuggling. That has allowed gangs who organise hazardous trips across the English Channel in small boats to hide their equipment in German warehouses as they make their way across the continent. Last year, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper came close to a deal with the previous government led by Olaf Scholz. Craig Munro breaks down Westminster chaos into easy to follow insight, walking you through what the latest policies mean to you. Sent every Wednesday. Sign up here. But after Scholz was shunted out in a no-confidence vote and lost the subsequent election, she was left having to forge an agreement with the new administration under Merz. Those talks have resulted in today's announcement that it will become a criminal offence in Germany to facilitate illegal migration to the UK. The law change is expected to be adopted by the end of the year, according to the British government. Starmer said: 'Chancellor Merz's commitment to make necessary changes to German law to disrupt the supply lines of the dangerous vessels which carry illegal migrants across the Channel is hugely welcome.' Last Thursday, the PM stood alongside France's Emmanuel Macron at a press conference to announce a new strategy aiming to stop illegal migrants wanting to come to the UK. The so-called 'one in, one out' system would mean people who cross the Channel in small boats are sent back to the continent in exchange for asylum seekers with genuine British links. While this would initially mean no change in the number of people arriving in the UK, it's hoped migrants would be deterred from making the trip if they think there's a chance they won't get to stay. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video However, reports suggest the plans would start small. According to French newspaper Le Monde, around 50 migrants a week would be swapped at first – meaning only a fraction of small boat arrivals would be sent back under the deal. More Trending The government denied there were fixed numbers for the early stages of the scheme, but Starmer said the scope would 'ramp up' following the pilot. More than 21,000 people have crossed the English Channel in small boats from France so far in 2025, the highest number ever for this point in the year. Last week, Macron called for the UK to address incentives for people to attempt crossings, such as the availability of jobs for those who have arrived illegally. The Home Office has announced an extension of Right to Work checks to gig economy and zero-hours workers, as well as a boost in action by Immigration Enforcement teams.
