"Breaking tradition of corruption, mismanagement": Delhi CM Rekha Gupta reviews Kanwar Yatra preparations
The Delhi CM said that her government has broken the traditions, corruption, and mismanagement of the previous regime. CM Gupta stated that the work done by the Delhi government was 'unprecedented' in itself.
'Breaking the tradition of corruption of the previous governments, breaking their tradition of mismanagement, breaking the tradition of troubling the public, the work done by the Delhi government regarding the Kanwar Yatra this time was unprecedented in itself...All the preparations have been done. All the arrangements for the toilets, which we are going to provide in the Kanwar camps, have been done. We have made electricity up to 1200 units free for the Kanwar camps', Rekha Gupta told reporters.
Furthermore, the Delhi CM noted that the people in the national capital are very 'happy' and 'welcome' gates have been put up at all the entries of Delhi to welcome the Kanwar Yatris.
Rekha Gupta informed that the government had called the people of the Ramlila Sangh and addressed their problems.
'The people are very happy today. Similarly, all the traffic and police arrangements have been made. Welcome gates are being installed at all the entries of Delhi and the government is fully prepared to welcome the devotees of Shiva...In the same way, we have called all the people of Ramlila, Ramlila Sangh, who are associated with the Ramlilas and have listened to their problems today and in the same way, the Delhi government will do all the work for Ramlilas', she said.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday criticised the BJP-led Delhi administration for politicising the sacred Kanwar Yatra by defunding long-standing community-run camps and redirecting funds to BJP-backed and affiliated organisations.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, 'Every year, we supported all Kanwar camps--irrespective of their political affiliations--by arranging tents, lights, sound systems, furniture, fans, coolers, music systems, and stages. The Kanwar committees only had to focus on 'seva' and managing the prasad distribution. This model ran smoothly for years. I can say with full responsibility that it never mattered whether a Kanwar committee was aligned with Congress, BJP, or AAP--our government helped everyone equally.' (ANI)

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a meeting of the BJP-led NDA's parliamentary party meeting. Meanwhile, the government is expected to push through some legislative business on Tuesday, amid the Opposition's continuing protests, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. In the Lok Sabha, at least four Bills will be considered for passage – The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024; The Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024; The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025; and The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to move a resolution for the continuation of President's Rule in Manipur for another six months with effect on August 13. The mortal remains of veteran tribal leader and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) patriarch Shibu Soren reached state capital Ranchi on Monday evening, with thousands of people waiting outside the airport and lining the streets to pay their final respects to the former CM, affectionately known as Dishom Guru. Soren, 81, who was undergoing treatment at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for over a month for kidney-related problems, passed away on Monday morning. Party workers led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy are expected to participate in a three-day protest beginning on Tuesday. On Tuesday, party MPs will move an adjournment motion in Parliament to demand a debate on the BC quota Bills. SC ruling on local body polls a win for Mahayuti
MUMBAI: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct local body elections according to the number of wards in 2017 and the new structure of wards being finalised by the state government. The court also clarified that the OBC reservation prevailing before the submission of the Banthia Commission report in July 2022 will be considered for the local body elections, expected to be held from November. The OBC-quota-related ruling of 27% OBC seats in district councils and municipal corporations will help the government keep over 33,834 seats that would have been reduced, according to the Banthia Commission recommendations. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had amended the law to increase the number of seats in local bodies according to the projected rise in the population. It had also seized powers regarding the formation of wards from the SEC. Subsequently, the Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti government kept ward-formation powers with the government but scrapped an amendment increasing the number of wards. 'Apart from upholding the Mahayuti government's decision, the court has also agreed to keep the OBC quota prevailing before the submission of the Banthia Commission recommendations, intact. The commission report had scrapped OBC reservation in many wards in local bodies and it would have deprived the OBCs from representation. OBCs have stood strongly with the Mahayuti alliance in assembly polls, and the ruling by the apex court will benefit us in the local body polls later this year,' said a BJP leader. The leader added, 'While increasing the number of wards of municipal corporations including Mumbai (where they were increased from 227 to 236) and Thane, the MVA had tweaked the wards in such a way that the coalition would benefit. The SC ruling has negated that risk.' The ruling by the Supreme Court will help the SEC hold the local body polls as planned. 'The process of ward formation for the district councils will be completed by August 25, while for municipal corporations and municipal councils, it will be completed by October 13 and 6, respectively,' said an SEC official. 'The finalisation of the voters' list and reservations will be conducted simultaneously and is expected to be completed by end-October. We expect the first phase of district council elections to be held after Diwali, in the second week of November,' he added. He said Monday's ruling will help the SEC keep to the schedule it had set for the polls. Food and civil supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is the NCP's OBC face, said, 'After the submission of the Banthia Commission report, there was a question mark lingering on the OBC quota in local body elections. The commission had recommended an OBC quota of 10% and 15% in some wards, from the flat 27% existing until then. We are happy that it will now be 27%, which has been prevailing since 1993.'

Union Minister Varma celebrates birthday
Bhimavaram: Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma's birthday was celebrated grandly at KS Raju Function Hall in Bhimavaram on Monday. West Godavari district unit of BJP organised this programme.
