Teenmar Mallanna's office vandalised for his comments on Kavitha
The protesters tried to enter the office of the YouTube channel run by Mr. Mallanna, and a scuffle broke out, leading to damage to furniture. The situation spiralled into chaos and Mr. Mallanna's gunmen tried to push the protesters out, during which several rounds were fired into the air inside the office.
Rachakonda police officials clarified that no one was shot. 'The injuries seen in the videos were not caused by bullets. His gunmen opened fire in the air in self-defence. The blood visible was due to cuts from broken glass structures during the commotion,' a senior officer said.
Videos from the scene show blood on the floor and shattered furniture strewn across the office, capturing the intensity of the confrontation. Police arrived soon after the firing and launched an investigation.
Mr. Mallanna, who was elected to the Legislative Council from the Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam Graduates' Constituency in June 2024 with the Congress party's support, was suspended from the party in March 2025 for anti-party activities. He burnt the caste survey reports claiming that the population of BCs was suppressed.
The Telangana Jagruthi leaders claimed that Mr. Mallanna's comments were outrageous and highly insulting to women. He had used a proverb, used in a crude way in the rural areas to describe the relationship between two people and groups. They questioned how an MLC with some responsibility could use such derogatory words against a woman in public life, and continue to support his statement.
Meanwhile, Ms. Kavitha met Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy seeking action against Mr. Mallanna. She later met the DGP and demanded that a case be booked for outraging the modesty of a woman using obscene and offensive language with criminal interest. She also wanted action against the gunman.
Mr. Mallanna, however, charged that the attack was to silence him and asked how Ms. Kavitha was related to BC reservations when the Congress government had taken up the issue.

US Supreme Court allows Trump's education dept mass layoffs amid school funding crisis
The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for President Trump to carry out large-scale layoffs at the Education Department, putting about 1,400 employees at risk of losing their jobs. The decision supports Trump's push to shrink the federal government. read more The Supreme Court has allowed President Trump to go ahead with mass layoffs at the US Education Department, putting nearly 1,400 employees out of work. In a 6-3 ruling, the Court's conservative majority overturned a lower court decision that had blocked the firings and ordered the workers reinstated. Education Secretary Linda McMahon praised the ruling as a 'significant win,' saying it would help carry out Trump's executive order to shut down the department 'as far as the law allows.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The layoffs affect about one-third of the department's staff and are part of Trump's broader effort to reduce the size of the federal government and shift education responsibilities back to the states. In a strong dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson, warned the decision could cause a constitutional crisis. She accused the majority of allowing 'lawlessness' and argued that Trump's plan 'usurps Congress's power' by effectively dismantling an agency created by Congress. Justice Sotomayor warns of serious harm from cuts Justice Sotomayor cautioned that the cuts would cause 'untold harm,' weakening civil rights enforcement, support for students with disabilities, and anti-discrimination programs. Her dissent pointed to Trump's earlier promise to eliminate the department, suggesting the administration intended to 'break the law.' Schools fear funding gaps and disruptions Twenty-one Democratic-led states and teachers' unions have sued, arguing the layoffs would cripple essential services. They raised concerns about threats to $1.6 trillion in student loans, special education, and funding for low-income schools—responsibilities required by Congress. Massachusetts school districts warned of lasting damage, including delays in financial aid that could trigger teacher layoffs. Employees, who have been on paid leave since March, now face losing their jobs. A union official said, 'This guts our ability to protect students.' Push for a smaller federal government gains speed The ruling comes after the Supreme Court recently allowed Trump's plan to reduce the federal workforce, moving forward with his goal to 'dismantle the administrative state.'

Court grants permission to K Kavitha to travel US for admission of her son
New Delhi [India], July 15 (ANI): The Rouse Avenue court on Monday permitted Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha to travel to the United States of America for admission of her younger son in a University in California. Kavitha is an accused in the Delhi Excise Policy case and was granted bail by the Supreme Court. Special CBI Judge Dig Vinay Singh allowed pleas of K Kavitha seeking permission to travel abroad and release of her passport. 'The right to travel abroad has been considered to be an important facet of Right to Life and Liberty guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution of India, and there is no reason as to why the applicant should be deprived of that right, having considered all the facts and circumstances, including the fact of the applicant being on bail in both the matters,' Special judge observed in the order. Kavitha moved an application through advocate P Mohit Rao and sought permission to travel to Los Angeles, California, United States of America, from Hyderabad between August 16, 2025, and September 2, 2025, to secure admission of her younger son in a University there. While allowing the pleas, the court said, 'Admittedly, the applicant is on bail in both matters and therefore it cannot be claimed that the applicant is a flight risk. She is a former Member of Parliament, also, and she has roots in society; therefore, there is no force that the applicant may flee from justice.' 'Regarding the apprehension of the Prosecuting Agencies as to the availability of the accused and the progress of the trial, adequate directions can be passed while allowing the applications,' the court said in the order passed on July 14. CBI and ED opposed the pleas and expressed apprehension that permitting her may frustrate and delay the trial, and the applicant may tamper with the evidence. Additionally, ED also claimed that the offence involved is grave, being a serious economicoffence. The court noted the fact that she had earlier been granted permission to travel abroad by this Court vide order dated May 03, 2025. It is nobody's case that during the said travel period or otherwise, she misused the liberty or conducted anything which may prejudice the trial. K Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15, 2024 and was subsequently arrested by CBI on April 11, 2024, in the Delhi Excise policy case. She was granted bail by the Supreme Court on August 27, 2024. As per the condition of bail, her passport has been deposited with the Court. (ANI)
