Lea Thompson believes the first ‘Back to the Future' film is ‘a perfect screenplay'

CNN2 days ago
It's been 40 years since Marty McFly hopped into that juiced up DeLorean. One of the stars of 'Back to the Future' remembers it fondly.
Lea Thompson reflected on the film in which she played Lorraine, the mother of Marty, played by Michael J. Fox, in a recent interview with People.
Thompson was asked which of the three movies in the franchise was her favorite.
'For me, it's 'Back to the Future: 1' because it's just a perfect screenplay. And as a director, I can appreciate the conciseness of it.'
'And the truth is that 'Back to the Future: 2' and 3 were supposed to be kind of like one movie, and then they spread it out into two,' she said. 'So, it wasn't constructed in the same way as 'Back to the Future' was. So I just think it's a perfect screenplay.'
According to Thompson, now 64, 'when we made 'Back to the Future,' we didn't even think we were going to make a sequel.'
'There was no sequel deal. There was no concept of that,' Thompson said. 'I mean, that's how long ago it was.'
The science fiction film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. Steven Spielberg served as Executive Producer.
Thompson said she also enjoys how love for the film, which first debuted in movie theaters July 3, 1985, has spanned different generations.
'It's really a joy when we look out in the audience when we're doing one of those talkbacks and half the people weren't even born when the movie came out,' she said. 'I mean, that's exceptionally cool.'

Bhad Bhabie Sued For Nearly $700K By American Express

OnlyFans model Bhad Bhabie, whose real name is Danielle Bregoli, is being sued by American Express in a new lawsuit that alleges she breached her contract and failed to repay nearly $700,000 in debt. The news stands in stark contrast to claims the internet personality made just over a year ago, when she stated she had earned millions of dollars from the subscription-based platform. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, which were filed on July 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, Bhad Bhabie, who first gained internet traction after going viral during an episode of "Dr. Phil," has been sued by American Express over a hefty six-figure sum. The lawsuit states that the 22-year-old has failed to pay her $674,452.40 balance, which American Express claims is a breach of contract. 'Plaintiff extended credit to Defendant for purchases and/or cash advances by Defendants and/or persons acting with Defendants' permission on the American Express account XXXX‑XXXX‑X5000 (the 'Account')," the filing read. "Defendant promised to repay Plaintiff for all charges, fees, and interest on the Account by paying the balance in full every month or by making monthly payments.' The legal documents claim that Bhad Bhabie, who also released her debut mixtape, "15," in 2018, entered into an agreement with American Express on April 21, 2021. However, the "Bestie" performer stopped making payments in December 2024, according to court filings. American Express is seeking the full balance owed to them, along with damages for breach of contract, according to PEOPLE. Hours after news broke that American Express was suing Bhad Bhabie for nearly $700,000, the outspoken media personality denied the allegations in a new statement to The Shade Room. "Sh-t not true," she told the publication. "Where do they get this sh-t from?" In the comment section of The Shade Room's post, fans shared their thoughts about the 22-year-old's complicated financial situation. "It's definitely true," a user wrote, while another posted, "I owe them too. It's okay boo." A third user clearly agreed, adding, "If American Express said you did it, babes, you did it." One user asked how a person could even rack up such a high credit card bill, while another questioned the motive American Express would have to lie about the situation. Another questioned whether accepting a high credit line was financially responsible, considering Bhad Bhabie once claimed to be a multi-millionaire. "They set you up and waited until you were at your lowest [and] now you owe," they wrote. "And your credit [is] going down the drain." According to a report from Complex, Bhad Bhabie once claimed that she earned over $70 million from performing on OnlyFans since joining the platform. That figure, however, isn't necessarily surprising, considering she told streamer DDG that she grossed over a million dollars in six hours during her first day in April 2021. "When we first started, I made a million dollars in six hours," she shared. "And by the end of day it was like $4 million." "Now, overall, the net on it is like $75 million," she added before saying she's used the money to purchase properties and vehicles. According to a screenshot shared online, from April 2021 to July 2024, the rapper generated over $24 million in subscriptions, $32 million from private messages, and more than $500,000 from tips. In a previous interview, Bhad Bhabie revealed her thought process behind joining the subscription-based platform. 'Since I was young, I've been called names and told that I'm doing this and that,' she said. 'I thought, 'You know what, I might as well make money from it.' I'm not gonna lie, I did definitely expect for it to be the biggest sh-t ever for the website. I figured I was one of the biggest people to do it, and it was going to do amazing. But even after I made one, [the success still] shocked me.'

Jordan Poole Reacts After Warriors Lose Key Player in NBA Free Agency

Jordan Poole Reacts After Warriors Lose Key Player in NBA Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jordan Poole has now joined his third team in two years. This is after the Washington Wizards traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans in a blockbuster deal that saw CJ McCollum take his talents to Washington. Advertisement On Monday, as the NBA free agency window officially started, Poole learned that he had been reunited with former Golden State Warriors teammate Kevon Looney. This came after the 6-foot-9 big man opted to part ways with the Warriors in favor of a two-year deal with the Pelicans worth $16 million. Based on Poole's reaction on social media, it is clear that he's very excited to be reuniting with Looney. "Omg!!! It's so lit," Poole posted on Instagram, sharing ESPN's report on Looney's move. Looney has decided to leave Golden State two years after the team parted ways with Poole. In 2023, the Warriors sent Poole to the Wizards as part of the Chris Paul deal. Advertisement Poole's move away from the Bay Area followed his highly publicized fight with Draymond Green. The two got into it during a team practice session, which ultimately led to Green knocking Poole down with a punch to the face. With both Poole and Looney getting a fresh start in New Orleans, they will look to make some noise playing alongside the likes of Zion Williamson and Herb Jones. Things could get very interesting for the Pelicans in 2025-26. Priyanka Chopra Jonas Has This 'Mandatory' Weekly Tradition with Husband Nick Jonas and Daughter Malti (Exclusive)

Priyanka Chopra Jonas speaks exclusively to PEOPLE in this week's issue Her favorite weekly tradition, she says, is lazy Sunday morning cuddles with husband Nick Jonas and their daughter Malti Marie 'The biggest luxury in our lives is being able to waste time together,' says the Heads of State starWhen Priyanka Chopra Jonas is speaking to PEOPLE about her new movie Heads of State, it happens to be early on a day she maintains a sacred weekly tradition. 'Sunday morning snuggles in bed,' the actress-activist, 42, tells PEOPLE in this week's issue. 'They have to happen. It's mandatory.' Luckily, despite working on a Sunday, Chopra Jonas 'did get snuggles,' she says, with her husband Nick Jonas and their 3-year-old daughter Malti Marie. 'Seven a.m., but we got 'em in.' When she's asked what brings her peace the most, Chopra Jonas doesn't hesitate: 'Being home with my family. … The biggest luxury in our lives is being able to waste time together or spend time together and just be languid in it and not worry about having to go somewhere.' Wasting time, she adds, is considered one of her guilty pleasures. 'That one hour you might get when it's quiet in the house and you get to watch Love Island's new season with a glass of wine or maybe even a book [when] I am supposed to be reading my scripts.' What other traditions does the Jonas household enjoy? When she and her husband and any guests are finishing a late-night movie, she says, 'I do scavenge the fridge at night. I am that person … a big snacker.' She continues, 'I want to make sure I get the snack scavenging in while everyone's distracted with the movie because you can't do it after. If you do it after, there's too much attention on you: 'What are you eating?' And then everybody wants to eat and it becomes a meal and then I'm heating up food. You've got to sneak out during a really important part of the movie. So that's what I do.' In Heads of State, Chopra Jonas plays a kick-ass MI6 agent opposite John Cena as the U.S. president and Idris Elba as the U.K. prime minister. The Ilya Naishuller–directed action-comedy, costarring Jack Quaid, Sarah Niles, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root and Carla Gugino, is now streaming on Prime Video. Read the original article on People
