Sepp Straka and Wife Paige Are Rivals

Yahoo12-05-2025
Sepp Straka is turning heads at the Truist Championship, firing a clutch 4-under 66 on Saturday to grab a share of the lead alongside Shane Lowry. With five birdies, two bogeys, and 11 pars, Straka is eyeing a strong finish in Sunday's final round. A clutch birdie on the 17th has fans wondering if a final round surge is on the cards.
Off the course, Straka shares a love story with his wife Paige that's as competitive as it is heartwarming. The couple met in Auburn at the iconic Sky Bar during the UGA vs. Auburn game, a meeting that sparked both a romance and a college football rivalry. 'I always thought that I would meet my husband in Auburn,' Paige once said.

"I did meet the love of my life in Auburn, at Sky Bar, icing on the cake!, but he turned out to be the BIGGEST UGA fan on the planet. We antagonized each other that entire first night-- and the night after. Is it weird that I liked the banter back and forth? Honestly, I think that's what sparked the connection," she added.

Despite the SEC split, love prevailed. Sepp and Paige got married and now share a family, including their son Leo.
Straka recalled their first meeting fondly: 'We met at the UGA/Auburn game in Auburn… We really hit it off after the game even though she was being pretty vocal about Auburn winning.' He even joked, 'Thankfully, that's the last time Auburn has beaten Georgia, so I haven't had to hear it since.'
Now, when Sepp's not on the course, he's back home 'with Leo and Paige, feeling like a champion!' as he once shared in a social media post.
As Straka gears up for a thrilling final round at the Truist Championship, fans will be watching closely, not just for his golf, but for the family cheering him on, SEC banter and all.

Tennessee players discuss Nico Iamaleava situation at SEC media days

The second day of SEC media days featured Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and Texas on Tuesday in Atlanta, Georgia. Junior linebacker Arion Carter, senior tight end Miles Kitselman and senior defensive lineman Bryson Eason represented Tennessee as student-athletes at SEC media days. Tennessee players were asked about their offseason. The Vols replaced their starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava after spring practices. The signal-caller did not attend Tennessee's final spring practice or the Orange & White Game, and transferred to UCLA. 'Having a guy like that leave with such character and such poise was a hard thing to do, but nobody's bigger than the program,' Carter said at SEC media days. 'We wish him the best where he is at, and I hope he has a great career and goes on to do great things. 'I feel it didn't waiver from the agenda, we had to step forward, and do, especially with the new guys we have set, with the three quarterbacks in our room with George (MacIntyre), Jake (Merklinger) and Joey (Aguilar). I feel we were able to crowd around those guys early and get those guys ready and prepare them over this course of these last few weeks. These next few weeks, going into fall and training camp for this 2025 season, I feel very well where we're standing, but we have a lot to do and a lot to prove still." Kitselman discussed moving on from Iamaleava's transfer situation. 'We had a group text with a couple of the guys,' he said. 'Whenever some stuff was going around, we all came together and said, hey, man, we want somebody who wants to be here. "I talked about it earlier, it's the next snap, next play, don't worry about what happened before. I think that can translate over into life, can translate over to the situation, if you don't want to be here, that's fine, we're going to go find somebody who does and he's going to come in here and compete, and want to be here. We didn't skip a beat and I love it." More: Josh Heupel discusses SEC playing eight-nine games, preserving football rivalries Eason also detailed how the Vols are coming together as a team during the offseason. 'It's just been us, just focused on everybody that is in the building,' he said. 'That's really what only matters at the end of the day. Just focusing on us, and building as a team, and just taking steps every day to be better as a team and as one." Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Broncos roster: OL Marques Cox (No. 70) looks to fill gaps behind starters

Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie offensive lineman Marques Cox, No. 70. Before the Broncos: Cox (6-5, 305 pounds) played six years in college at left tackle, spending time at Northern Illinois (2019-22) and Kentucky (2023-24). After redshirting his freshman year, Cox started 10 of 12 games played on offense and special teams. In the 2020-shortened season, Cox started all six games. In 2021, Cox made All-MAC fourth team, starting all 14 games, and during that season, NIU ranked second in the nation with only 10 sacks allowed. In 2022, before transferring to Kentucky, Cox started four games before suffering a season-ending injury in a game against Kentucky. Cox was named to Phil Steele's 2021 All-MAC team. After transferring to the Wildcats, Cox started all 25 games, earning two Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List recognitions, as well as being named Preseason third-team All-SEC from Athlon and Preseason Fourth Team All-SEC by Phil Steele. Broncos tenure: Cox was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL draft. He will make his Bronco debut during preseason next month. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Longshot. It remains to be seen if Cox will play primarily as a tackle or as a guard in the NFL. Denver might ask him to serve as a backup swing guard/tackle. Regardless of where he lines up, Cox will face tough competition to make the active roster as a rookie. He might be competing for a practice squad spot this summer. 'He's always available' Paul Finebaum praises Texas A&M HC Mike Elko's intellect

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko will take the podium during this week's SEC media days on Thursday afternoon. Before the second-year coach and his three player representatives speak to the many members in attendance, Elko has been praised by several prominent SEC coaches and media members, including SEC Network host Paul Finebaum. National praise for Elko after his first season on the job has been scarce, mainly due to the Aggies finishing 8-5 after starting 7-1, but for those who enjoy context, the loss of star running back Le'Veon Moss placed the offense in a bad spot, and starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who enters the season with more experience under his belt, had his share of freshman moments while facing a host of tough secondaries down the stretch. Still, Elko had a better first record than most first-year head coaches in the SEC, and for those who only judge Elko on his coaching ability, Finebaum, who has interviewed Elko on multiple occasions, described the New Jersey native on a more personal level. Just like Vanderbilt HC Clark Lea, Finebaum described Elko as one of the smarter coaches in the country. "Mike Elko is the smartest coach I've dealt with in a long time" Finebaum stated. "He's a thoughtful guy, He's always available. None of these things have to do with his coaching ability, but they matter." It's fair to note that Mike Elko is an Ivy League graduate (University of Pennsylvania) while establishing himself as one of the best recruiters in the country this summer, developing strong and lasting relationships with all 25 of the program's 2026 commits. Elko's background as an elite defensive coordinator certainly played a large part in his hiring nearly two years ago, but what he brings as a leader is unmatched, and is a primary reason over 70% of the 2024 roster returned this offseason. Texas A&M will be the final team to speak on Thursday, July 17, at 2:54 p.m. CT.
