'He's always available' Paul Finebaum praises Texas A&M HC Mike Elko's intellect
National praise for Elko after his first season on the job has been scarce, mainly due to the Aggies finishing 8-5 after starting 7-1, but for those who enjoy context, the loss of star running back Le'Veon Moss placed the offense in a bad spot, and starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who enters the season with more experience under his belt, had his share of freshman moments while facing a host of tough secondaries down the stretch.
Still, Elko had a better first record than most first-year head coaches in the SEC, and for those who only judge Elko on his coaching ability, Finebaum, who has interviewed Elko on multiple occasions, described the New Jersey native on a more personal level. Just like Vanderbilt HC Clark Lea, Finebaum described Elko as one of the smarter coaches in the country.
"Mike Elko is the smartest coach I've dealt with in a long time" Finebaum stated. "He's a thoughtful guy, He's always available. None of these things have to do with his coaching ability, but they matter."
It's fair to note that Mike Elko is an Ivy League graduate (University of Pennsylvania) while establishing himself as one of the best recruiters in the country this summer, developing strong and lasting relationships with all 25 of the program's 2026 commits.
Elko's background as an elite defensive coordinator certainly played a large part in his hiring nearly two years ago, but what he brings as a leader is unmatched, and is a primary reason over 70% of the 2024 roster returned this offseason.
Texas A&M will be the final team to speak on Thursday, July 17, at 2:54 p.m. CT.

Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: LT Overton
As we look ahead to the 2025 college football season, there are few players on the Alabama Crimson Tide defense who have a greater amount of hype surrounding their potential this fall than LT Overton. Entering year two in Tuscaloosa, Overton bypassed the NFL draft this past spring in order to return to Alabama for the 2025 season, setting the stage for what many across the college football world believe could be a career-year for the former top recruit. With this, Overton likely enters the season as a potential first round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, and could possibly cement that status with a strong campaign this fall. Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama's LT Overton entering the 2025 season. LT Overton player information LT Overton career stats Over his three-year collegiate career so far, Overton has compiled a combined 90 tackles, six TFL, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery during his time at both Alabama and Texas A&M. Transferring to Alabama prior to the 2024 season, Overton had a combined 48 tackles, three TFL, and a sack while at Texas A&M in 2022-23. LT Overton 2024 stats Overton's 2024 season at Alabama was his first in Tuscaloosa after transferring from Texas A&M, with the move to join the Crimson Tide immediately translating to the career-year. Last season, Overton appeared in 13 games where he compiled 42 tackles, three TFL, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. LT Overton recruiting ranking Coming out of high school, Overton was considered as the nation's No. 14 overall player in the 2022 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 4 rated defensive lineman nationally. Rated as a five-star recruit, Overton was also considered the No. 3 player in the state of Georgia where he attended Milton High School. Overton also came to Alabama as part of the Crimson Tide's 2024 transfer portal class where he was considered by 247Sports as the No. 30 overall player nationally that offseason. The defensive lineman, who committed to Alabama in Dec. 2023, was also rated a four-star transfer, as well as the No. 7 overall player at his position. LT Overton 2025 season outlook There are few names on the defensive side of the ball for Alabama this season who could more of an overall impact than Overton. One of Alabama's returning leaders on defense, Overton enters the 2025 season cemented as the Crimson Tide's starter at "Bandit," which you could argue is certainly a loaded position group. Overton will also bring a significant amount of experience to that group, and should rank among Alabama's most productive players on the defensive line as a player who can help both rush the passer, as well as stop the run. Overall, expect a career-year for Overton in 2025, and for the Alabama defensive lineman to receive All-SEC honors at seasons end. SEC Media poll picks Texas Football to win conference
The assembled media in Atlanta for SEC Media Days has picked Texas to win the conference in 2025. The Longhorns had more than double the votes of No. 2 Georgia in the poll. UT got 96 first place votes to the Bulldogs 44. Participants at SEC media days voted the Longhorns to win the SEC in their second year in the league, which coincides with the first year for Arch Manning as the starting quarterback. It's not a surprise the two opponents in last year's SEC Conference Title game are picked as the top two teams in the conference again. Last year, Texas had the best regular season record, but where beaten by UGA in the title game in Atlanta. The prediction isn't exactly a good omen for Texas. Only 10 times since 1992 has the predicted champion at SEC Media Days gone on to win the SEC Championship Game.

Iowa football receives favorable odds to win the Big Ten from CBS Sports
Can Iowa football win the Big Ten in 2025? That's the golden question that Hawkeye fans have been trying to answer all offseason. Most fans would tell you that Iowa has no shot this season in a loaded Big Ten conference. However, the betting odds tell a different story. Thomas Casale of CBS Sports put together an article on Thursday compiling the betting odds for every team in the Big Ten to win the Big Ten title. The usual heavy hitters occupy the top of the list, but Iowa fans don't have to scroll far to find the Hawkeyes, who are tied with Nebraska for the sixth-best odds to win the Big Ten title at +3500, according to FanDuel. This may seem far-fetched, but FanDuel may not be too far off when it comes to their projections for the Hawkeyes. Who has better odds than Iowa to win the Big Ten? Iowa and Nebraska are tied for sixth at +3500. The Hawkeyes find themselves in front of some really good teams like Illinois, Indiana, and Washington. The Fighting Illini have received a ton of offseason hype and are generally regarded as a team in the conference with immense upside. The Hoosiers just made the College Football Playoff last season, and Curt Cignetti has developed quite the culture over in Bloomington. And the Huskies always seem to find a way to compete and stay relevant, and being back a talented QB in Demond Williams Jr., so why does Iowa have better odds than them? Why Iowa can win the Big Ten? One name. Mark Gronowski. It may seem misguided to place all of Iowa's hopes and dreams on an FCS transfer QB, but Gronowski's play in 2025 will determine Iowa's success. If Gronowski can give the Hawkeyes above-average QB play, this is a team that can win double-digit games. The defense and special teams always show up, and the rest of the offense around Gronowski is underrated. If Gronowski is just average or worse, Iowa's ceiling drops to a seven or eight-win team. Not terrible, but nowhere near the top of the Big Ten. It's a big season for Gronowski and offensive coordinator Tim Lester. Iowa's offense hasn't been better than average in a while, and that needs to change soon. If it does, it might be a magical season in Iowa City.
