Julia Bradbury reveals extreme measures she's taking for her health after breast cancer battle
TV host Julia Bradbury has revealed the significant steps she's taking to safeguard her health after a cancer diagnosis caushed her world to "stop."
The ex-Countryfile presenter, who is 54 years old, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and had to undergo a mastectomy. Now in remission, she opened up about her fight against the illness during an appearance on James Martin's Saturday Morning.
In today's episode of the ITV cooking show (April 26), she disclosed that she's adopting radical measures to secure her future health, details of which will be included in her forthcoming book, Hack Yourself Healthy.
"My world did stop, but once I was through [cancer treatment] and I had a left mastectomy, I really just thought 'Ok, what am I going to do now for myself to enhance my life, enhance my health and make sure I can stay healthy," she said on the ITV show.
"I was always into my health, I was always into walking and I enjoyed my food, but when you really start to look into health and really start to analyse what it is... then it becomes quite prescriptive."
She also mentioned undergoing genetic testing recently to understand precisely which foods are most beneficial for her body, reports the Express.
"What I've done for the book is undergone all sorts of genetic testing so I know what my genetic blueprint is," she elaborated. "There will be certain things, a certain way that I'm wired, and there'll be certain foods I can eat that will enhance my health."
Julia Bradbury was one of the original faces of Channel 5 when it first hit the airwaves in 1998, presenting alongside comedian Tim Vine. She later became a familiar face on Watchdog from 2005 to 2009 and kickstarted a new chapter for Countryfile with co-host Matt Baker.
On today's episode of James Martin's Saturday Morning, the popular chef was joined by culinary talents Lisa Goodwin-Allen and Judy Joo, as well as First Dates' Merlin Griffiths, who was on hand to mix some tantalising cocktails for everyone.
Merlin has previously opened up about his own battle with cancer, confessing that he would "never be the same again" following his treatment. He was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2021, and was declared cancer-free two years later.
In a heartfelt 2024 interview with The Mirror, Merlin revealed: "My life will never quite be the same, and anyone that has gone through bowel cancer and the horrific treatment that it involves will understand. I might look whole, but I'm actually missing about 45% of my insides. It's quite a major amputation internally that I have had."

Coronation Street fans gobsmacked as they realise two stars are mother and son
Coronation Street has seen a number of real-life family members appear on the cobbles over the years - but fans were left stunned after realising two stars are mother and son Two stars of Coronation Street share more than just their ability to captivate audiences. Over the years, the ITV soap has welcomed several real-life family members onto its iconic cobbles. Real-life siblings, cousins, and even parents and their children have all graced the set. Cousins Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach have made a name for themselves on the soap, while the late Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) was actually the real-life brother of footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). But they're not the only ones with familial ties both on and off screen. Fans have recently been taken aback by one mother and son duo that appeared on the soap years ago. Back in 1985, Sue Jenkins joined the ITV soap as Gloria Todd. She became a regular face on the show as a barmaid at the legendary Rovers Return, reports the Daily Star. Sue also worked alongside Julie Goodyear who famously played landlady Bet Lynch. In addition to her Corrie role, Sue portrayed Jackie Corkhill in Brookside for nine years between 1992 and 2001. She also had a brief stint in Emmerdale in 2008, appearing in five episodes as Bonnie Drinkwater. However, it turns out she has a very famous son who also made an appearance on Corrie. In reality, Sue's son is Richard Fleeshman - who played Craig Harris. Richard joined the cast of Coronation Street back in 2002 with his TV family, the Harrises, who were hiding due to the witness protection programme. His character Craig certainly had some memorable moments. He adopted a goth persona, much to his father's dismay, and became Rosie Webster's (portrayed by Helen Flanagan) first boyfriend. The drama escalated when Katy Harris, Craig's sister, murdered their father following a heated argument about her clandestine relationship with Martin Platt. Their mother, Angela Harris, attempted to shield Katy, but overwhelmed by guilt, Katy took her own life. In the aftermath, Craig planned to flee to Berlin with Rosie, but ultimately departed alone, bidding farewell to the cobbles in 2006 for good. The revelation of Sue and Richard's Corrie connection left fans online astounded. On X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer posted about Sue's stint on Corrie. Another fan responded: "That's Richard fleeshmans mum!". Another added: "Her real life son played Craig Harris, son of Psycho Tommy!".

Rod Stewart 'noticing change' in wife Penny Lancaster after career move
Rod Stewart has shared his thoughts on his wife Penny Lancaster's career change as she became a special police constable a few years ago - and he's noticed a change in her Sir Rod Stewart has revealed that his wife Penny Lancaster has become more assertive since trading in her glitzy lifestyle for a uniform, having completed her training as a special police constable in 2021. Penny, who at 54 swapped the runway for policing duties, including prestigious occurrences such as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III's Coronation day, has seemingly taken her new role in her stride. In a candid chat with The Times, the beloved singer of Maggie May voiced his observations about Penny's professional pivot. With a hint of amusement, Sir Rod said: "I have noticed she's got more bossy since she's been a copper." He continued: "The kids have noticed, we've all noticed. She seems to think she knows everything now," reports the Express. Penny previously discussed how her switch in careers was initially met by scepticism from Rod and their sons. Recounting her family's initial reaction, she disclosed to The Times: "When I first told them the idea of joining, they thought I was absolutely mad. "And also, being young lads, my sons didn't think it was cool. But now they're so proud. It's a complete turnaround." She believed their opinions shifted after witnessing the transformation in her character, influenced by her policing experiences. Penny recounted: "To begin with they were like: 'Mum, you've become stricter. I don't like this'." Rod himself echoed the sentiment: "And even Rod would say: 'You've changed. You're more forceful, you're more this, you're more that'." Despite any initial doubts, according to Penny, Rod's support has been unwavering in her pursuit of law enforcement. "He's seen the dedication I have with the force and what it gives me back, as well as what I can give them," she revealed on Loose Women. Unfortunately, last year, Penny faced a setback in her role when a knee injury forced her to switch from frontline duties to desk work. The mum-of-two suffered a torn meniscus in her right knee during a trip abroad. Speaking about her career shift on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast last month, Penny delved into her experiences making arrests. She divulged: "I've been doing it for four years now so he's kind of got used to it and he's met a lot of my colleagues and he respects the amount of training I've done. "I have [arrested people], two people, for drink driving and drug driving. Every accident you have to test for drink and drugs. It is an adrenaline rush...I wasn't arresting on live TV." Don't miss Penny on Tipping Point: Lucky Stars today at 4.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
