Watch: New York man plays golf for 36 consecutive hours
Kelechi Ezihie, a Long Island man who is originally from Nigeria, hit the links at Huntington Crescent Club at 6 p.m. Sunday with the intention of playing the game for 24 hours, the minimum goal set by Guinness World Records to originate the title for the longest marathon playing golf.
Ezihie's plans abruptly changed halfway through his attempt when he was told a Norwegian man had just completed an attempt that went on for 32 hours.
Ezihie extended his own attempt and ended up finishing after 36 hours of golf on Tuesday.
Evidence from his attempt must now be reviewed by Guinness World Records.
Ezihie said his goal is to expand the reach of golf, especially to young people in Nigeria, where he bought land and plans to build a course.
"People assume that golf is for the wealthy and I'm trying to change that," Ezihie told CBS New York. "The goal is to let people know that golf is a game for everybody. Whatever your economic background or somebody with special needs, you can play the game of golf."

Florida Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk named 'NHL 26' cover athlete
Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk will be on the cover of NHL 26, EA Sports announced Monday. A full reveal for the video game will premier Wednesday. "He's loud," EA Sports wrote on social media. "He's relentless. He's a problem. Now he's the face of the game." Tkachuk, 27, joined the Panthers through a 2022 trade from the Calgary Flames. The nine-year veteran made the Stanley Cup Final in each of his three seasons with the franchise, including their back-to-back title-winning campaigns in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Tkachuk tied Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart for the Panthers' team lead in postseason points, with 23 over 23 games. He scored eight goals and chipped in 15 assists during the Panthers' 2024-25 playoff run. NHL 26 is expected to be released in September. The NHL 26 preview will air Wednesday on YouTube.

The Braves also recalled infielders Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Jonathan Ornelas and optioned outfielder Jarred Kelenic to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers. Riley sustained the abdominal strain during the Braves' 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday in Bristol, Tenn. He also landed on the injured list on July 12 due to an abdominal strain. Riley hit .260 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs through his first 102 games this season. The two-time All-Star hit .256 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs over 110 appearances last season. He hit more than 30 home runs each season from 2021 through 2023. He hit a career-best .303 in 2021. The Braves (47-63) sit in fourth place in the National League East, 15.5 games behind the first-place Philadelphia Phillies (63-48). They will host the Milwaukee Brewers (67-44) at 7:15 p.m. EDT Monday in Atlanta.

Korean school offers scholarship money for climbing 6 mountains

File Photo by Bob Strong/UPI | License Photo Aug. 4 (UPI) -- South Korea's Seoul National University said more than 1,400 students have applied for an unusual scholarship offering up to $540 to pupils who climb six mountains. The Misan Mountain Hiking Scholarship, which accepted applications from July 8-18, offers $216 in scholarship money to students who climb three mountains by the end of the year and $540 to students who climb six. Eligible mountains are those listed in Black Yak's 100 Famous Mountains and 100+ Famous Mountains, not including any mountains with cable cars or gondolas. Applicants must submit evidence of their climbs using the Black Yak app. The school said the scholarship, funded by 1963 alumnus Kwon Jun-ha, 81, only offers about 70 spots, but over 1,400 students have applied, sparking fierce competition. "The scholarship reflects the donor's desire to foster healthy individuals with a spirit of challenge and community spirit," the school said.
