Gangster bludgeoned with golf clubs outside bar where UK mobsters gunned down
A gangster was savagely assaulted days after filming a video at a bar where two Scottish mob bosses were shot to death.
Sam Walker, a self-proclaimed social media influencer with a hefty online following for his criminal exploits, sustained severe injuries in the attack in Spain. He ended up needing a number of staples in his skull.
The bloody assault followed his posting of a clip from Monaghan's bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. In May, Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were gunned down in the same bar in front of terrified customers who had been watching the Champions League final.
Walker, from Liverpool, visited the murder scene shortly after the shocking incident and broadcasted it on his Instagram and TikTok accounts. At the end of the video he says: "This is a message to any one of yous out here.
"Stay on point, because if you get caught slipping. That's what happens. Three people have been whacked, two people are dead. Have a nice day, bam bam."
His actions were seen as disrespectful to the recently deceased victims, however. It was then later revealed that Walker had been brutally attacked in Puerto Banus nearby, where he suffered serious head wounds that bloggers speculated involved golf clubs.
Following surgery in a Spanish hospital, he released several videos seemingly flaunting the staples in his skull. A source told the Daily Record: "Sam Walker is very well known and has a big social media following but he is not in the same criminal league as some of the big players who have settled here.
"Walker is known to create noise around his movements and to chase followers and hits, so there was scepticism at the seriousness of the attack at the start. But it does seem that he was very badly injured. It has been reported on several social media channels that the side of his head was 'caved in' and fragments of bone were lodged in his brain."
The insider continued: "We don't know for sure but the video he made shortly after the Glasgow people were murdered did not go down well in some quarters and there remains the question that he was attacked as revenge.
"Spanish police are well aware of this suggestion. There are various theories as to the motive for the attack. It is almost certainly related to gangland grudges."
Walker's recent years have seen him globetrotting to Sierra Leone, Turkey, Cyprus, Ireland, Thailand among other places, rubbing shoulders with drug dealers and assorted criminals. Despite his large Instagram and TikTok fanbase, he often faces ridicule for allegedly concocting tales.
Yet he has also engaged in acts of kindness and charity work in Africa. In the summer of 2018, Walker shared footage of himself amidst jubilant children in an impoverished Sierra Leonean slum.
Notorious Walker has recently been seen delivering a container full of supplies and setting up a water tank and pipes in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. Amidst applause and cheers, a local man expressed gratitude: "We are happy that our brother Sam has come to help us with water and sanitation. We thank God for him."
Walker confidently declared to the camera: "Now, no child is going to have to drink dirty water again." The infamous crook embarked on an elaborate journey to reach his destination, travelling by private jet to Belgium, flying to Spain, hopping on a cargo ship to Morocco, and then driving across the Sahara desert.
Throughout his travels, he brazenly taunted the police on social media, boasting at the end of his grand voyage: "Better luck trying to catch me when I go out of the country next time, Merseyside Police."
In March of the previous year, Walker had openly ridiculed the police after he skipped bail in the UK and escaped to Sierra Leone via private jet. His capture came as he was broadcasting live on TikTok, apprehended by local armed officers.
Walker, who has admitted to a long life of crime, including drug, weapon and driving charges, once threatened to tend the career of footballer Ross Barkley's career. At one point, he also found himself in an unexpected quarrel with actor Stephen Fry.
The Scouser reportedly has more than 130 offences to his name and last September was found guilty of contempt of court for live streaming from an Irish courtroom on TikTok while there entering a guilty plea for driving-related charges.

Dad of Scot accused of murdering woman sends condolences to her family
Kenny Rattray says he is "utterly devastated" and struggling to function since the tragic death of Dr Fortune Gomo on Saturday. The dad of a man accused of the murder of a scientist in Dundee has sent an emotional message of condolence to her family. Kenny Rattray says he is "utterly devastated" and struggling to function since the tragic death of Dr Fortune Gomo on Saturday. His 20-year-old son, Kyler Rattray, has been accused of murdering the 39-year-old University of Dundee scientist. Rattray made no plea and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. A further court hearing will take place within the next eight days. Dr Gomo was found seriously injured on the city's South Road. Mercy crews fought to save her, but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene. Now days later, Kyler's devastated dad, says he wants to speak out as he sent his condolences to Dr Gomo's family. Kenny said: 'I send my condolences to her family, her daughter, her close friends. 'I've just been praying every single hour that people could find the strength to get through this, whether they do or not, I just hope they've got some kind of support network, because it's absolutely horrendous. ' He added: 'I'm trying to get through the hours here. 'We've been left utterly devastated.' Originally from Zimbabwe, Dr Gomo worked for Scottish Water and graduated with a PhD in Geography and Environmental Science from the University of Dundee. A university spokesperson described her death as a 'truly shocking event'. This week we told how Dr Gomo's brother revealed his sister had been planning her big 40th celebrations in just a few weeks' time. Regis Nyantsanza spoke from Zimbabwe paying a loving tribute to his sister, the eldest of four siblings, describing her as the"deputy parent" of the family. Regis said: "Two weeks ago we were laughing about throwing her a big 40th birthday bash but she said she had achieved most of what she wanted. After all the struggle she had everything she wanted and so she was going to have a quiet celebration." Other heartfelt tributes have been paid to Fortune who lived locally and worked for Scottish Water. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The scientist, who was originally from Zimbabwe, is understood to have obtained a PhD at University of Dundee in recent years. Scottish Water has said Fortune was an "exceptional" scientist and they are supporting her colleagues at this difficult time. Professor Simon Parsons, Director of Environment Planning and Assurance at Scottish Water, said: 'Everyone at Scottish Water, where Dr Fortune Gomo worked, is shocked and saddened by her death and we send our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. 'Fortune was an exceptional scientist and a senior service planner in our Water Resources Planning section based in Dundee where, having joined us in February, she had already become a highly valued and respected member of our team. 'We are supporting her colleagues at Scottish Water following this incident." The University of Dundee said: 'This has been a truly shocking event in our city and for our University community. "It will be particularly distressing for those who knew and worked with Fortune throughout her time as a PhD student and postdoctoral research assistant in Geography, and for all of those in our close-knit community of African colleagues and students. 'Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this tragic time.'

Jet2 forks out five-figure sum after girl, 5, sliced open in hotel horror
Mya Mullin, who was five at the time of the incident, suffered large cuts after she ran through a glass balcony during a family holiday to Spain's Canary Islands Jet2 has forked out a five-figure sum after a five-year-old girl suffered horrifying cuts at a hotel. Hudgell Solicitors said it had taken legal action against Jet2 on behalf of the family of Mya Mullin, from the West Midlands, who suffered large cuts after she ran through a glass balcony door at a Canary Islands hotel. She has been awarded compensation for the 2018 incident. Mya, who was five at the time, was left with permanent scars following the incident on Gran Canaria. Hudgell Solicitors claimed the door failed to meet Spanish safety standards and accused Jet2 of breaching its contractual duty of care to the family. The travel company did not admit liability but agreed to settle the case out of court by making a 'five-figure' compensation payment to 12-year-old Mya, the law firm said. The family were on a package holiday provided by Jet2 at the Hotel Lago Taurito when the incident happened. Mya went to run onto the terrace of their apartment without realising the sliding glass door was closed. Her father, Neil Mullin, said he 'heard the bang' and then saw Mya 'still in the door with glass stuck in her, screaming'. He went on: 'Seeing my child stuck there with the glass embedded and then holding her stomach wound together for about 30 minutes until the ambulance arrived, it really affected all of us. It was just neglect. You book a holiday for your family and you expect a room that is safe for you and your children, but it didn't look like any recent safety checks had been done.' Mr Mullin said taking legal action against Jet2 'wasn't about the money', but was an attempt to get the company to take responsibility for providing accommodation that was 'a death trap'. Mya was taken to a hospital in the capital Las Palmas for surgery to stomach and leg wounds. Anne Thomson, a travel accident expert at Hudgell Solicitors, said: 'Package holiday tour operators have a duty of care to their customers no matter where in the world you travel. 'They are responsible for keeping you safe at your accommodation and the facilities and services supplied should be of a satisfactory standard so that they are also safe. In this case we argued that they had failed.' A spokesperson for Jet2 said: 'We can confirm that we have reached a settlement in relation to an incident which occurred in 2018. The health and safety of our customers is extremely important to us, and we would like to reiterate how sorry we are about this incident.'

Brit gangster pictured for first time in years - he spent £1,000s to change face
Steven Lyons, who has been living abroad for nearly 20 years, has changed his appearance by getting 'extensive cosmetic work done' including Botox, a source said Scottish crime boss Steven Lyons has been pictured for the first time after allegedly spending thousands of pounds changing his appearance. Lyons, 44, has had fillers, Botox and dental treatment, the new snaps - the first pictures of him in a decade - show. The snaps also show his friend Ross Monaghan, who was shot dead alongside Eddie Lyons Jnr in a bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol in Spain on May 31, while they attended a festive party in the United Arab Emirates in December. In 2006, the head of the Lyons crime gang fled Scotland for Spain after being shot twice - he then moved to Dubai. As photos of him emerged, a source said he has had extensive facial treatments. Speaking to the Daily Record, the source said: "Steven has made millions since he fled Scotland, albeit he recently lost a couple of large consignments. So getting extensive cosmetic work done is no issue. "His cheeks have very noticeably been pumped full of filler. He's had regular Botox on his forehead and around his eyes. And his teeth would give Katie Price's a run for their money." It is estimated that a single treatment of cheek fillers can cost around £1,000 in the UAE, while forehead Botox costs about £200 per session. The treatment needs to be continued every six months to maintain the look. Dental work runs into thousands of pounds depending on the nature of the treatment. Before these photos emerged, the last widely circulated image of Steven was taken in 2008. In one of the new images, Lyons can be seen standing with two associates. In the photo, he appears to be protecting his leg which was blasted during an assassination bid in 2006. The source said: "Steven's leg has not been the same since he was shot. It was broken and he was in plaster for 12 weeks. He struggles to walk comfortably and has to go downstairs in a weird way." Another image shows Lyons smiling while leaning over a friend for a selfie. The pal also posed in another photo with Monaghan. Lyons, the son of former boss Eddie Lyons Snr, is understood to still be the head of the Lyons family despite fleeing Scotland almost two decades ago, according to the Record. The publication also reported that Lyons didn't attend the funeral of Monaghan, 43, and his brother last week over fears he would be targeted by hitmen. The insider said: "Eyebrows have been raised about Steven not going to the funeral of his own brother and best pal. He didn't return for his sister's either back in 2020 so it wasn't a huge surprise though. There was a livestream link so he watched it on that. With everything that's been going on and the warning issued it was too big of a risk for him to return."
