Gandhinagar: Amit Shah visits Library Network Centre, holds review meeting for development of libraries
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 27 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday visited Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), Gandhinagar and conducted a review meeting for the development of libraries and called the library a primary centre for learning about education, culture, and history.
In a post on X, Amit Shah said, The library is a primary centre for learning about education, culture, and history.'
'Today, I visited the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) centre located in my Lok Sabha constituency, Gandhinagar, and reviewed the development of libraries. Through INFLIBNET, libraries are being continuously developed by integrating them with cutting-edge technologies, enabling them to also serve as support centres for curious children in the field of R&D. Additionally, the mobile app of 'Sastu Sahitya Vardhak Karyalaya' was launched. This app will prove to be very useful for book lovers in obtaining their favourite books,' he added.
Amit Shah also planted a sapling at the premises.
Eralier, Amit Shah offered prayers at the over 400-year-old Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad on the occasion of Rath Yatra. He offered the 'mangala aarti' at 4 am and shared a heartfelt post on his official 'X' account, reflecting on his divine experience.
'On the sacred occasion of Rath Yatra, participating in the Mangla Aarti at Shri Jagannath Temple, Ahmedabad, is in itself a divine and extraordinary experience. Earlier, Shah extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of the sacred Jagannath Rath Yatra, describing the festival as a 'unique confluence of faith and devotion'.

MP Upendra Kushwaha seeks fairer representation in parliament for Bihar and UP
Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday claimed that states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have an inadequate representation in Parliament and delimitation was necessary to set things right. I would urge my Hindu brethren to show some magnanimity, Kushwaha said.(ANI file) Addressing a rally in Gayaji, the Rajya Sabha MP also termed as "misleading" the contention that better implementation of family planning measures had slowed down the growth in population of southern states and delimitation would put these at a disadvantage. "If we see the period between 1881, when the first census was held under British Raj, and the Independence in 1947, the rate of growth in southern states was higher. The reason being famines and pandemics hitting Bihar and adjoining states like Uttar Pradesh with greater severity", claimed the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief. The RLM is an NDA partner. He said, "If we look at the data, in southern states there is a Lok Sabha constituency for every 21 lakh people while in Bihar and UP 31 lakh people elect one MP. This militates against Babasaheb Ambedkar's principle of one person one vote and every vote having an equal value". Kushwaha blamed the "injustice" on the Congress, saying, "During the Emergency, in 1976, the Delimitation Act was amended, which disrupted the earlier practice of census and delimitation taking place together. Now, the number of parliamentary constituencies has been static for 50 years. Otherwise, Bihar would have 60 MPs, 20 more than its current strength in the Lower House". He also said, "Over the years, the rate of population growth in the south has declined not because of performance of governments in states but due to improvement in education, which they could afford much before the Hindi heartland could catch up". "Education has been spreading in the Hindi-speaking states and this will have an impact on the growth of population here as well. But until that happens, let the region's representation in Parliament be commensurate with its population", said Kushwaha. He also expressed solidarity with Buddhists demanding full control of the Maha Bodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, where Buddha is said to have got enlightened 2,500 years ago. "I am myself a Hindu and not a Buddhist. But I would urge my Hindu brethren to show some magnanimity. They are free to have full control of crores of temples. Let them give up their claim on just one and prove that Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam is not a mere slogan", added Kushwaha. He also said, "Some may see me as a stormy petrel. When I was in the first council of ministers of Narendra Modi, my criticism of the collegium system in higher judiciary raised many eyebrows. But I consider myself a trailblazer. Today all parties are speaking against the discriminatory system of appointment of judges in High Courts and the Supreme Court".

Puri Stampede: Odisha Chief Minister Orders Administrative Overhaul
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday ordered a major administrative shake-up following the stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple in Puri which claimed three lives and left around 50 people injured. With several crucial Rath Yatra events approaching, the CM has reassigned experienced IAS and IPS officers to ensure tighter coordination and public safety. In a decisive move, ADG (Police Modernisation) SK Priyadarshi has been placed in overall charge of police arrangements for the Rath Yatra and related rituals in addition to his existing responsibilities, an official said. Further strengthening the top administrative structure, senior bureaucrat Saswata Mishra has been appointed as Principal Secretary to the CM, a post lying vacant since Nikunja Dhal proceeded on central deputation. Mishra will also continue as Principal Secretary, Finance Department, and Chairman, IDCO. The CM has also engaged former Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal as the overall in-charge of the Rath Yatra. The administrative action came swiftly after the stampede sparked nationwide outrage. Within hours, Puri Collector Siddharth Sekhar Swain and Puri SP Vinit Agarwal were removed from their posts. Additionally, DCP Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi have been suspended from service. DIG STF Pinak Mishra has been appointed as the new Puri SP. Despite his promotion to DIG rank, Mishra has been directed to function as SP during the Yatra, citing the critical nature of the role. Sources confirmed he assumed charge within hours of the transfer order. To ensure full transparency, Majhi has ordered an administrative inquiry into the incident, to be conducted by Development Commissioner Anu Garg, a senior officer known for her firm administrative approach. The inquiry will aim to determine lapses and recommend corrective measures. Some of the most significant upcoming events are Sandhya Darshan (evening darshan) on July 4, Bahuda Jatra (return car festival) on July 5, Suna Besa (golden attire of deities on chariots) on July 6 and Niladeri Bije (deities return to main temple) on July 8. These events attract lakhs of devotees, with the Suna Besa expected to draw maximum people. "The congregation may exceed 15 lakh people this year for the Suna Besa," a temple official said.

Puri Rath Yatra Stampede: Congress demands resignation of Chief Minister and Law Minister
Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UNI) The Odisha Congress today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, holding the state government entirely responsible for the Saradhabali stampede that claimed the lives of three devotees. A fact-finding team constituted by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das visited Puri and conducted a detailed inquiry into the circumstances that led to the stampede near the three chariots at the Gundicha Temple. The team comprising former PCC President Prasad Harichandan, former Minister Jagannath Patnaik, PCC Vice President Santosh Singh Saluja, and former Minister Nagendra Pradhan visited the District Headquarters Hospital to assess the condition and treatment of those injured in the incident. The members expressed shock and sorrow upon learning that two seriously injured patients—whose legs were completely severed—were discharged without receiving adequate medical treatment. Reiterating their demands, the Congress team called for special compensation of Rs.50 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs.25 lakh for those seriously injured. Holding the state government wholly accountable for the tragedy, the team asserted that the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Law Minister should step down on moral grounds, as the responsibility for managing the Rath Yatra rested with them.
