Egypt is moving forward with the second phase of its debt swap agreement with Germany, converting EUR 100 million into development investments. Half of the amount is set to be channelled into projects by the end of this year, with the remainder to follow by June 2026.
The update was shared by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, who noted that the total volume of German debt allocated for conversion now exceeds EUR 340 million, with key focus areas including healthcare, vocational education, and climate-oriented initiatives.
The debt swap programme is structured so that project ownership remains entirely with Egypt, and each initiative is selected to match national development priorities. German-Egyptian cooperation spans beyond this programme, with Germany maintaining investment and trade links that include more than 1,400 German companies active in the country and bilateral trade exceeding EUR 7 billion.
Debt swaps, used globally, allow countries to redirect foreign debt payments into domestic investments, often in partnership with donor governments. Egypt and Germany have maintained similar agreements since the early 2000s.

Innovation Crew Transforms Emirates Palace in 48 Hours for BRABUS Island Launch - Middle East Business News and Information

Cosmo Developments, BRABUS, and Innovation Crew deliver a full-scale brand takeover inside one of the world's most iconic venues. July, UAE: BRABUS Island , the first ever branded residential project by German performance brand BRABUS, made its regional debut in April with a high-speed launch at Emirates Palace. Developed by Cosmo Developments – powered by Reportage Group – the concept was unveiled at an event produced by Innovation Crew, who were tasked with delivering a fully immersive brand experience under strict venue and time constraints. The event introduced one of the boldest real estate concepts in the region. The brief was clear: transform one of the world's most iconic venues into a trademark BRABUS experience. No walls could be touched. The brand's bold, black-on-black aesthetic had to be felt in every detail. And it had to be done in 48 hours. 'We had just a few days to finalize the creative, plan the journey, source materials, rehearse, and execute,' said Sony AbdelMohsen, General Manager of Innovation Crew. 'When they told us they wanted to dim the gold, I laughed. But they weren't kidding – and neither were we, once the brief was in.' At the time, the agency was already managing eight large-scale campaigns across eight countries. With just 48 hours on the clock, the transformation was delivered on schedule. Additional crew were flown in from Riyadh and Cairo to support the Dubai-based team, with more than 50 specialists managing production, design, guest experience, and technology. Innovation Crew's leadership was also present on-site throughout the execution. To match BRABUS' signature black-on-black aesthetic, custom materials were sourced across the UAE, including carpets, furniture, cutlery, and textiles. Emirates Palace staff worked in close coordination with the agency to ensure all installations respected the venue's preservation guidelines. 'We couldn't alter the structure, but we had to silence it,' added Sony. 'Every shadow, spotlight, and surface was calculated. And if black plates and cutlery were missing across the UAE in April or May, you can probably blame us.' The result was a powerful sensory environment that brought the BRABUS universe to life without compromising the heritage space. The launch sparked significant digital traction, generating organic impressions across social media and online platforms, setting the benchmark for future branded real estate projects. It has been recognised as one of the most commercially successful real estate showcases of the year. This was not Innovation Crew's first moment in the spotlight. The agency is behind some of the region's most talked-about experiences, including Pepsi Titan's iconic takeover at Ain Dubai and other landmarks in the region, ADNOC's Youth Centers closing ceremony in collaboration with CAF, British Petroleum's West Nile Delta launch, Philips' Guinness World Record event at the Pyramids, and the opening of BSH's first factory in Africa. About Innovation Crew Group Innovation Crew is a regional BTL powerhouse with a presence across the MENA region, specializing in high-profile brand launches and immersive experiences. With teams in Dubai, Cairo, and Riyadh, the agency is trusted by brands like Pepsi, Lay's, Samsung, Nissan, and Total Energies to deliver seamless, high-impact execution when it matters most. Egypt PM says recent economic crisis over, calls for price cuts - Society

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday that Egypt has overcome its recent economic crisis, calling for a tangible drop in commodity prices. 'All indicators of Egypt's economic performance are positive, but the current prices of goods do not align at all with this improvement,' Madbouly said at a meeting with merchants and manufacturers in New Alamein City. He urged identifying causes that will lead to a downward trajectory in prices. 'Just as prices rose in previous periods due to the challenges we faced, they must now decline,' a cabinet statement quoted Madbouly as saying. He underlined the government's efforts to ensure the availability of various goods and production inputs for factories. 'We have succeeded in achieving this through full stability and a commitment from the banking system to provide all the foreign currency requirements for imports over the recent period,' he said. Madbouly stressed that citizens now need to see a genuine drop in commodity prices, particularly given the recent strengthening of the Egyptian pound against the US dollar. The Egyptian pound has seen a modest appreciation against the US dollar, with the official exchange rate falling below EGP 49 for the first time since late October 2024, nearly nine months ago. Since early 2022, Egypt has faced prolonged economic pressures, including a foreign currency shortage that drove up prices of most goods, particularly food. In response, the government began implementing measures to boost US dollar liquidity in the domestic market, aiming to release goods stockpiled at ports and restore market stability amid soaring inflation. Madbouly instructed the President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce to convene the heads of all commercial chambers and agree on genuine price reductions across a range of goods. CBE governor hosts Nigerian counterpart, showcases new banknote production facility

Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), hosted Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and his delegation for a series of strategic discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation between the two central banks. The meeting, which took place at the CBE's headquarters, focused on enhancing collaboration in key areas of banking and finance. Following the discussions, Abdalla escorted Cardoso on a tour of the New Administrative Capital's Printing House, where the Nigerian delegation was introduced to the full process of banknote production—from design to final delivery. The tour showcased the facility's advanced technology, anti-counterfeiting security measures, and quality control protocols, ensuring precision at every stage of banknote production. In addition to the tour, the visit provided an opportunity for the CBE and CBN delegations to exchange technical expertise on a variety of subjects. The Egyptian side shared insights into its progress in fields such as Supervisory Regulations, Basel Frameworks, Monetary Policy, and Macroprudential Policy, in addition to its work in IT, FinTech, cybersecurity, and data science. The meeting also included a session with the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI), the CBE's training arm, to explore its capacity-building programs for banking sector professionals. On the occasion, Abdalla reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening relations with African countries and praised Nigeria's growing role in regional economic and financial affairs. He also congratulated Cardoso on Nigeria's successful hosting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) meetings the previous month, thanking Nigeria for its hospitality. In his remarks, Olayemi Cardoso highlighted the importance of the visit as an opportunity to deepen financial cooperation between Egypt and Nigeria. He expressed admiration for the Printing House's advanced technologies and robust security measures, noting that the CBN looks forward to leveraging Egypt's expertise in the banking sector. This visit follows Abdalla's official trip to Nigeria at the end of last month, where he participated in the 32nd Annual Meetings of Afreximbank under the theme 'Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,' attended by African leaders and heads of state.
