Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Middle East-based smart AI-powered FM solutions provider HITEK AI , which is part of the Farnek group of companies, has achieved ISO 42001 certification, the first international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems.
With a strong focus on operational excellence and risk mitigation, ISO 42001 provides a structured framework for organisations to design, develop, implement, monitor, and improve AI systems responsibly and ethically.
'HITEK AI is the first FM-related company in the Middle East to achieve ISO 42001 and as such this gives us and all Farnek group companies a distinct competitive advantage and demonstrates our leadership by complying with international AI standards and aligning with global best practices and ethical principles,' said Javeria Aijaz, Managing Director, HITEK AI.
'This enables HITEK AI to demonstrate its leadership in AI governance and compliance, setting a benchmark for responsible AI implementation throughout the region's facilities management industry,' she added.
HITEK AI achieved ISO 42001 certification following a long rigorous audit process conducted by Callids Global Quality & Standardization, an accredited external auditor. This involved comprehensive assessments of their process management systems, policies, risk management frameworks, data governance practices, and ethical compliance measures.
The extensive evaluation demonstrated its commitment to aligning with international best practices and standards for AI management, security, and transparency. Throughout the certification process, the company consistently evidenced robust implementation, continuous monitoring, and systematic improvement of its AI solutions and protocols.
'This certification is more than just a milestone for us… it's a clear signal that HITEK AI operates with a strong, structured internal compass to govern the way we build and manage AI. In a fast-evolving landscape, where trust and transparency matter more than ever, ISO 42001 is a stamp of quality assurance that we've embedded ethics, quality, and accountability into the heart of our AI systems. We're not just innovating for today here…we're leading responsibly,' commented Ryan Mitchell, Director – QHSEW, at Farnek.
ISO 42001 also allows organisations to identify and mitigate AI-related risks, including critical errors, security threats, and ethical concerns, which supports and improves responsible decision making.
'Moreover, our certification will improve the accuracy, reliability, and sustainability of our AI modeling and optimise AI-driven operations to realise maximum impact. Businesses working with us can rest assured that they have chosen a partner with reliable, responsible, and secure AI processes, supporting their innovation and growth,' added Aijaz.

The Climate Tribe Opens Its First Sustainability Hub in Abu Dhabi

The Climate Tribe Opens Its First Sustainability Hub in Abu Dhabi Founded in 2023 by Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, The Climate Tribe is a UAE-based social enterprise committed to collective climate action through creativity, storytelling, and community mobilisation. Over the past two years, it has built a movement that blends sustainability with culture—and now, that vision has taken physical form. The Climate Tribe unveiled its first permanent space: The Climate Tribe Hub in Abu Dhabi. Purpose-built as a collaborative venue for climate-focused creativity, the Hub officially opened with 'The Climate Tribe Live!'—a launch event that brought together partners, creatives, and environmental changemakers. 'The Climate Tribe began with a vision to inspire climate action through storytelling, creativity, and shared purpose,' said Her Highness Sheikha Shamma. 'With 2025 being the Year of Community in the UAE, we are proud to align with our national vision as we now mark this new chapter in our journey.' The Hub itself is as much a statement as it is a space. Designed in collaboration with local artisans and sustainable design studios like Alchemy, Tashkeel, and Alghadeer Emirati Crafts, the venue integrates low-impact materials, recycled elements, and nods to Emirati heritage in every detail. The result is a space that is both functional and reflective—hosting workshops, screenings, panel talks, and strategy labs for climate-driven projects. At the launch event, guests watched a mini-documentary detailing the Hub's transformation from concept to construction, followed by a panel featuring members of The Climate Tribe's leadership team and project collaborators. 'The Hub is a true reflection of our values,' said Executive Director Hind Al Ghseen. 'It stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when creativity, culture, and purpose come together.' Since its founding, The Climate Tribe has united more than 2,200 community members, facilitated over 70 climate initiatives, and contributed to the planting of 921 trees and recycling of over 8,600 kilograms of waste. With the launch of its first physical space, the group is expanding from a digital platform into a real-world ecosystem of ideas, tools, and partnerships—ready to turn climate storytelling into action.

Aria Ventures Launches LE 50M Fund For Egypt's Deep Tech Startups

Aria Ventures backs Egypt's next wave of deep-tech startups, targeting AI, robotics, biotech and more with major funding and hands-on support. Jun 29, 2025 Michigan-based venture capital company Aria Ventures has launched LE 50 million fund to support early-stage companies in Egypt's deep-tech sector, with plans to increase the fund to LE 200 million by 2029. The fund is directed at startups working in high-science fields including AI, robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and the Internet of Things. The initiative includes a competition called DeepTecher, which identifies promising technological research and guides selected projects through mentoring and evaluation phases toward becoming market-ready companies. The studio's hands-on approach offers both funding and services, including product development, legal support, and market research. Aria Ventures operates as a venture studio, meaning it develops startups from concept through execution. By assembling teams and building out infrastructure internally, the firm aims to create a pipeline of high-tech startups capable of turning academic research into viable commercial products. Egypt's deep-tech landscape is still nascent, though growing interest from investors and research institutions has brought more attention to science-driven startups. This move marks a bid to make Egypt a more active player in advanced technology fields regionally and beyond

Surge in conflicts fuels extreme poverty: World Bank - Region

Conflicts and related fatalities have more than tripled since the early 2000s, fueling extreme poverty, the World Bank said. Economies in fragile and conflict-affected regions have become "the epicentre of global poverty and food insecurity, a situation increasingly shaped by the frequency and intensity of conflict," the bank added in a new study. This year, 421 million people get by on less than $3 a day in places hit by conflict or instability -- a situation of extreme poverty -- and the number is poised to hit 435 million by 2030. Global attention has been focused on conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East for the past three years, said World Bank Group chief economist Indermit Gill. But "half of the countries facing conflict or instability today have been in such conditions for 15 years or more," he added. Currently, 39 economies are classified as facing such conditions, and 21 of them are in active conflict, the Washington-based development lender said. The list includes Ukraine, Somalia, South Sudan, and the West Bank and Gaza. It also includes Iraq, although not Iran. The report flagged that moves to prevent conflict can bring high returns, with timely interventions being "far more cost-effective than responding after violence erupts." It also said that some of these economies have advantages that could be used to reignite growth, noting that places like Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are rich in minerals key to clean tech like electric vehicles and solar panels. "Economic stagnation -- rather than growth -- has been the norm in economies hit by conflict and instability over the past decade and a half," said Ayhan Kose, World Bank Group deputy chief economist. The bank's report noted that high-intensity conflicts, which kill more than 150 per million people, are typically followed by a cumulative fall of around 20 per cent in GDP per capita after five years.
