Nick Kyrgios takes dig at BBC and his potential on-air replacement: ‘Their loss more than mine'
Nick Kyrgios is apparently competitive on and off the tennis court.
In an interview with The Guardian, Kyrgios ripped the BBC for not bringing him back as a commentator during this year's Wimbledon, taking a dig at his replacement in the process.
'I know I'm a great commentator,' Kyrgios said. 'All I've done for 20 years is play, study and breathe this sport. I also think tennis needs commentators who say things that not everyone says.
'It's unfortunate but it's probably their loss more than mine,' he continued. 'I understand they've got Chris Eubanks but he hasn't beaten the greatest of all time multiple times. When someone's beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it's very strange you wouldn't want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.

'I'm sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.'
Eubanks, an American tennis player who is ranked No. 108 in the world, has not been officially named by the network as part of their Wimbledon coverage.
The Australian Kyrgios was on BBC's airwaves in London during last year's Wimbledon after he sat out due to a wrist injury.
The network faced significant blowback for hiring Kyrgios for their television coverage after he previously admitted to assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Kyrgios, 30, has not played at Wimbledon since falling to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 final thanks to nagging injuries.
He won't participate in this year's tournament after suffering yet another injury setback, this time a knee problem.
'Unfortunately, I won't make it back for grass season this year,' Kyrgios shared in an Instagram story earlier this month. 'This is just a bump in the road… I'm already working hard to get back stronger.'

Pegula beats Swiatek on grass to win Bad Homburg title in Wimbledon tune-up
BAD HOMBURG, Germany (AP) — Top-seeded Jessica Pegula beat five-time major champion Iga Swiatek 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday to win the grass-court Bad Homburg Open, extending Swiatek's year-long title drought. Pegula clinched her third title of 2025 — with the others in Austin, Texas, and Charleston, South Carolina — and it was the ninth title of the 31-year-old American's career. Swiatek was seeded fourth at the WTA 500 tournament in Germany, where the 24-year-old Pole sought her first trophy since the 2024 French Open and a 23rd overall. In their 11th career meeting, but first on grass, Pegula won for the fifth time overall. Pegula beat Swiatek in the quarterfinals at last year's U.S. Open, where she finished the runner-up. Although Swiatek hit nine aces in Saturday's final, she also dropped her serve twice. Pegula saved the only break point she faced and won a higher percentage of points on first and second serve. The former No.1-ranked Swiatek has won four French Open titles and one U.S. Open, but has never been beyond the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Aryna Sabalenka ‘learnt a lot' from reaction to losing the French Open final
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been able to clear the air with Coco Gauff after her emotional reaction to losing the French Open final to the American earlier this month. The Belarusian was heavily criticised after attributing the defeat to her own mistakes rather than Gauff's performance, and apologised both privately and publicly for describing the match as the worst final she had played. Advertisement The two players looked to have put those hostilities firmly behind them in social media clips posted from Wimbledon on Friday, and Sabalenka was contrite in accepting the negative response her comments prompted. She said: 'I've always been really good with Coco. Honestly, as I said in the statement and I messaged to her, I didn't really want to offend her. 'I was just completely upset with myself, and emotions got over me. I just completely lost it. 'I did what I did. I get what I deserve, I believe. It was a tough time for me. The lesson is learned. 'Honestly, I'm kind of glad what happened to me at Paris, because I was able to learn a lot. Advertisement 'I was able to sit back and be open to myself, not just to ignore some things. I think I realised a lot of things about myself in those last stages of the tournament. 'We spoke with the team. I think we learned something. I really hope it will never happen again.' Sabalenka, who is up against Canadian Carson Branstine in the first round, has no qualms about facing Gauff again should the two end up involved in a rematch in the Wimbledon final. 'If I make it to the finals, I don't care (who I play), but also I would love to face Coco,' she said. 'If she's going to be there, I'm happy because I want to get the revenge!'. Advertisement Sabalenka has been limbering up for the tournament by having a hit with both Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, with the former happy to offer advice drawn from his vast experience. Novak Djokovic offered advice to Aryna Sabalenka (Ben Whitley/PA) She said: 'Novak is the best. First of all, I was able to hit with him, which not every guy would be able to do. Then you can chat with him, he will give his honest advice. 'It's amazing to hear opinions of such a legend. We were just chatting about stuff that I'm struggling with a little bit. I'm really thankful for the advice he gave me. 'It was a 30-minute chat. If you give opportunity to Novak to talk, he's not going to stop! I wish I could stay there for four hours and just keep chatting, but we all have our schedule. Advertisement 'Honestly, I hit with Jannik for like, I don't know, 10 minutes – I was exhausted! 'An hour with Novak…now I'm recovered. I needed a day of recovery but it was a great experience. When you see someone like Jannik or Novak, you learn from them. You reflect what they do on court. It was great for me.'
