Liverpool forward on the brink of agreeing transfer move
It's the German giants Bayern Munich who have displayed the most interest in Diaz so far and they're intent on getting their man, despite the high €100m asking price that Liverpool have put on him.
We didn't know if Liverpool would consider budging on their demands, since the stance that club has shown so far has been one of 'he's not for sale', but the latest reports claims there's been movement.
According to Nicolo Schira, who posted an update on X: "Luis Diaz is getting closer to Bayern Munich from Liverpool for €75m. Agreement in principle with the winger for a contract until 2030."
That figure would equate to around £65m which is £16m profit on the £49m Liverpool paid in 2022.

Former Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic has joined perennial Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade on a short-term deal. According to Calciomercato, the veteran center-forward has signed a one-year contract at Stadion Rajko Mitic. This move is the fulfillment of the 36-year-old's childhood dream. Indeed, Marko Arnautovic has never hidden his love for Red Star. On the contrary, he had reiterated his ambition to wear the red-white shirt multiple times in the past. Ex Inter Milan Ace Marko Arnautovic Joins Red Star Belgrade Despite captaining Austria's national team, Arnautovic has Serbian origins. Furthermore, he fluently speaks Serbian and maintains strong ties to the country through his family. Meanwhile, his transfer to Red Star is not only a sentimental homecoming. It should also help the 1991 European Cup winners gain a foothold in the Champions League next term. It's also worth noting that Red Star tried to sign Arnautovic last summer. However, the deal was not feasible. Arnautovic made 65 appearances for Inter and won two Serie A titles, an Italian Super Cup, and a Champions League over two spells.

Newcastle cult hero 'Nobby' Solano appointed Pakistan coach
Pakistan's embattled football federation has appointed former Newcastle United cult hero Nolberto 'Nobby' Solano as coach of their national teams to try to improve their dreadful record of never qualifying for a major tournament. Solano, 50, who also played for Aston Villa and West Ham United in the English Premier League before retiring in 2012, was an assistant coach for his country Peru when they qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. "We have hired the services of Solano with a hope that he will bring more energy and zest to the national players and lift our standings at the international level," the Pakistan Football Federation president, Mohsen Gilani, said in a statement. The cricket-obsessed nation has reached the second round of Asian qualifying for the FIFA World Cup only once. Pakistan are 201st of 210 teams the in FIFA world men's team rankings, and have sought to improve standards by inducting players of Pakistan heritage based in the UK. Pakistan football has suffered badly from political parties fighting over control of the federation, which receives a large annual grant from world governing body FIFA. The federation was for 10 years run by a FIFA-appointed committee and earlier this year briefly suspended for political interference ahead of elections in May. FIFA in 2021 banned Pakistan from playing international matches for 15 months, also for political interference in the federation. Solano's first task will be with the under-23s men's team, who are due to face Cambodia, Iraq and Oman in September in qualifying for the U23 Asian Cup next year. Solano's first matches in charge of the senior team will be a double-header against Afghanistan in 2027 Asian Cup qualifying in October. Pakistan kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 away defeat to Syria in March and a 1-0 loss to Myanmar in Yangon last month. sh/ecl/dh

Another round of US-China talks will start next week in Sweden: Bessent
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Tuesday that a third round of trade talks with China are now scheduled and will commence next week in Sweden, with the goal of delaying a deadline next month that has threatened to see tariffs rise between the world's two largest economies. 'I'm going to be in Stockholm on Monday and Tuesday with my Chinese counterparts and we'll be working out what is likely an extension then,' Bessent said Tuesday morning during an appearance with Fox Business's Maria Bartiromo. The confirmation of a meeting — following talks in Geneva and then London earlier this year — comes ahead of an Aug. 12 deadline when a pause on tariffs between China and the US is scheduled to expire. Lessening tensions between the two nations appear to have boosted markets. Bessent used the appearance Tuesday morning to reiterate his message that markets should be confident that a new round of tensions with China are not in the offing, suggesting that his focus during the coming talks will be on increasing Chinese demand for US products. He said that China can become a bigger importer as American output increases, saying 'if we could do that together: we do more manufacturing, they do more consumption that would be a home run for the global economy.' Other issues that will be on the table, Bessent added, could be topics like China's consumption of Russian and Iranian oil (which Trump has promised to sanction) as well as the war in Ukraine. Next week's meeting could also set the stage for a meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping later this year. Bessent added Tuesday that trade talks are proceeding on other fronts around the globe, promising 'a rash of trade deals in the coming days' before an August 1 deadline for other nations. The promise there comes as other trading partners — from the European Union to Brazil to India — have said in recent days that they continued to negotiate while offering signals they are preparing for a possibility of Aug. 1 arriving without a deal. The European Union has even been making plans for retaliation — which could include new tariffs on an array of US goods. Yet much of the market focus in recent weeks has been on China and the lessening tensions there helping investors to pushing prices upwards. A recent reversal from the White House where Trump's team acceded to Chinese requests to allow Nvidia (NVDA) to resume sales of its H20 artificial intelligence chip has only increased confidence that a thaw is in the offing for now.
