AbbVie in talks to acquire Gilgamesh Pharmaceuticals, Bloomberg News reports
The U.S. drugmaker has spent over $20 billion on acquisitions since 2023 as its flagship rheumatoid arthritis treatment, Humira, lost patent protection.
Gilgamesh is a clinical-stage company developing therapies for psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
In May, AbbVie said it is partnering with Gilgamesh to develop therapies for psychiatric disorders, under which Gilgamesh could receive up to $1.95 billion in option fees and milestone payments.
Deliberations over the acquisition are ongoing and could be delayed or fall apart, Bloomberg News reported.
AbbVie and Gilgamesh did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Diageo to cut more costs as tariffs bite
The global drinks group behind Guinness and Johnnie Walker whisky has said it will go further in cutting costs as it seeks to revive investor confidence after the abrupt exit of its chief executive last month. Diageo has raised its cost-savings target to $625 million over the next three years, up from $500 million, as it attempts to offset a $200 million hit from tariffs that is about $50 million worse than it had previously outlined. About half of the savings will be invested in 'future growth', with the remainder dropping through to operating profit. The shares, which have fallen by 24 per cent since the start of this year, were up as much as 6 per cent in morning trading before falling back by lunchtime to a gain of 2.2 per cent.
