Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres faces disciplinary action for training no-show
Gyokeres, who scored 39 league goals to fire Sporting to the Portuguese title last season, is understood to be at the top of Arsenal's wishlist.
However, the two clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee and the 27-year-old has appeared to play his hand by refusing to return for pre-season training.
However, Sporting president Frederico Varandas told Portuguese news agency LUSA, 'We're calm. Everything can be solved with the closure of the market, a hefty fine and an apology to the group.
'If they don't want to pay Viktor's fair market value, we'll be very comfortable with that for the next three years.
'If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think that this puts pressure on me to make it easier for him to leave, not only are they completely wrong, but they are also making it more complicated for the player to leave.
'No one is above the interests of the club. Whoever they are.'
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in a new striker before the club's pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong, with Arsenal due to play their first match, against AC Milan, on July 23.
Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard has been brought in from Brentford, along with Spain international Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined from Chelsea.
Arsenal are also closing in on a £52million deal for Chelsea's England forward Noni Madueke.

Chelsea v PSG live: Underdog Blues try to make history in Club World Cup final against European champions
Chelsea have a golden opportunity to become world champions this evening but there is a pretty big obstacle in their way, in the form of Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. A fascinating Club World Cup final in New York pits Enzo Maresca 's underdog Blues against a PSG side who look unstoppable, having demolished Inter Milan 5-0 at the end of May to clinch their first-ever Champions League crown and then thumping Real Madrid 4-0 last time out in the Club World Cup semi-finals for good measure. Chelsea have had a bumpy ride in the United States, overcoming one of the first shocks of the tournament – a 3-1 group stage loss to Flamengo – before seeing their last-16 tie with Benfica marred by a two-hour weather delay but bounced back and comfortably dispatched Fluminense in a dominant display at the semi-final stage. They now have a date with destiny at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, as Luis Enrique 's incredibly impressive French and European champions stand in their way of an unlikely triumph and a huge payday. Noni Madueke leaves Club World Cup camp to complete Arsenal move, Enzo Maresca confirms Enzo Maresca has all but confirmed Noni Madueke's imminent switch Arsenal after revealing that the winger has left the Chelsea camp ahead of the Club World Cup final. Madueke looks set to become the latest player to swap blue for red in London after a £48.5m fee was agreed between the two clubs, with Chelsea giving him permission to undergo a medical. The 23-year-old will subsequently play no part in Chelsea's bid to become world champions as they take on Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey on Sunday. 'Noni is in contact with the new club,' he told a press conference. 'I guess he is going to be (announced) in the next hours.' Police on high alert in France for PSG vs. Chelsea Club World Cup final in US
Tens of thousands of police officers will be deployed in France on Sunday night as Paris Saint-Germain takes on Chelsea in the Club World Cup final thousands of miles away in the United States. French officials have warned that no fan misbehavior will be tolerated after violence in the country marred celebrations of PSG winning its first Champions League trophy in Germany. 'No gatherings will be tolerated on the Champs-Elysées,' Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau told RMC media. 'A total of 11,500 police and gendarmes will be mobilized in Paris on Sunday, and 53,000 throughout France.' French police are faced with a double security challenge, with PSG's match at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey followed on July 14 by France's Bastille Day celebrations. 'Every year, there are troublemakers who want to have fun with violence, who break things, who want to loot. We're going to have to provide security for a huge number of events: fireworks displays, parties,' Retailleau said. Celebrations of PSG's first Champions League title were largely peaceful but degenerated into violence in some areas. A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in the western city of Dax during a PSG street party after the final, the national police service said. In Paris, a man in his 20s was killed in Paris when his scooter was hit by a car during PSG celebrations. ___
