Student nearly ends up on wrong flight because of one spelling mistake
A student nearly ended up in Greece after buying a ticket for Paros instead of Paris. Mario Andres Mantilla Ardila was searching for flights to the French City of Love when the mishap took place. The 22-year-old aspiring architect typed 'Paros' instead of ' Paris ' and ended up with a ticket to the Greek island in the Aegean Sea, located west of Naxos. Luckily, the Colombian, who also works as a graphic designer, realised the mistake before boarding the plane. But not before posting a video on TikTok that quickly went viral with 9.2m views and thousands of comments. He jokingly captioned the clip: 'I had to go to Paris, but because I'm dyslexic, I bought a flight to Paros.'

Images showed his plane ticket from the Colombian capital Bogotá to Paros. The young man was due to board the plane in seat 28F. It also showed him holding his hand over his mouth in shock. The open-ended clip left many TikTok users wondering whether he accidentally ended up in Greece. But Mario told What's The Jam: 'I quickly realised and managed to change it to the correct ticket. I uploaded the video to TikTok as a funny anecdote, never imagining it would get so many views or go viral. The reason I had to travel to Paris was to participate in a volunteer program in Viviers, Ardèche, where I'm currently helping restore the Maison des Chevaliers, a historic 14th-century building. 'As an architecture student, this experience has been incredible, allowing me to learn traditional restoration techniques, gain a closer understanding of heritage preservation, and contribute to the protection of a unique place. Beyond the technical aspects, the programme also focuses on cultural exchange and community service, making it even more meaningful.' He added: 'Although I didn't end up travelling to Paros, seeing images and videos of the island, I would love to visit it sometime in the future as it seems like a wonderful destination.' One local said, 'Believe me, Paros is much better than Paris.' Valery added, 'Now I want to visit Paros, it looks beautiful.' Ale remarked: 'My brother once confused Switzerland for Sweden.'
The prospect of flying to the wrong country by mistake is not a new one. A long running claim has circulated on the internet that Salzburg Airport in Austria has a help desk specifically for people who intended to fly to Australia.
However, sadly, it's not true. The European airport recently confirmed it does not have a desk for misguided tourists trying to get Down Under. The misconception stems from an advertisement for a technology company that ran on a baggage carousel at the airport, which joked about offering such a service.
Salzburg Airport wrote in a Facebook post written in German that no such counter or button exists and that the sign seen in some of the posts is actually an advertisement for Commend, an Austrian communication and security technology company.

Is Rhodes' Old Town a tourist trap or medieval paradise?
So when The Ixian Grand & All Suites invited me to explore this beautiful part of the world, I was thrilled. Before visiting Old Town I had spent 3 amazing days in Rhodes. The food, hotel staff, suite and pool had combined to create the perfect Dodecanese marriage, but I still had a hunger for more. Well two hungers to be precise, more food and also culture. Is Greece still the place to go for the best holiday? Here's my salty experience — Matt Evans (@MTEvans1995) July 11, 2025 First impressions of the Old Town of Rhodes: The Old Town of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is visited by thousands of travellers every year. Palace of the Grand Master is an awe-inspiring fortress that looms ominously over Old Town. Originally built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 14th century, it is often cited by Greek tourist boards as the definitive must-visit spot. The intricately designed back alleys and buildings are beautifully preserved and a great way to experience what life was like in the past. First impressions for me though? Well, I'd wager some folks would get bored after 15 min and others would be content to spend an entire day there. But which category did I fall under? I went to Rhodes looking for love but ended up with a goose My Old Town experience: Food was on my mind. And lots of it. Despite being thoroughly treated by The Ixian Grand & All Suites over the prior few days, I had a hunger for more. After roaming around the streets for an hour or so, I landed on the first restaurant - yes, first. A quaint tiny little Greek place tucked behind one of the cobbled streets. It was early in the day, so I fancied fish and white wine. Plenty of different fish courses, white wine and accommodating staff who gave me a complimentary shot of Souma, then another, then another. Several locals had urged me to try the Dodecanese alternative of ouzo or raki over the previous two days. But 'proper' souma. I'll be blunt, it is essentially white spirit, as I was essentially staring at two menus by this point. A cunning ploy by the staff to be fair, as I proceeded to order the mussels and octopus, the most expensive items on the menu, but equally delicious. This was the prelude to my final Rhodes lesson. But we'll come on to that. Old Town is a bouncing, bustling, little spot brimming with, dare I say it, tourists. But in all fairness, it seems to be designed that way. The bars for example. One place has a flag for every country in the world and will set it on your table if you tell them where you're from. Genius marketing, playing on an idiot's love of country. So after I finished a pint opposite my Welsh flag, I headed to my second and final restaurant of the day for something, heavier. It was a steakhouse slap-bang in the middle of Old Town. Unlike bars and pubs, I have always held the belief there should be a different playbook for restaurants. Keep to yourself/table. This restaurant was bouncing with people from all walks of life, friends, families and a weirdo sitting alone in the middle, me. I couldn't have been in a better spot to people-watch. Just me, my T-bone steak and a glass of wine. What more could you ask for? (Image: Newsquest) But before long, Old Town was starting to get, well, old. You only need to spend a day there to sample all of its delights, or even less, personally. The downsides of Old Town: Sadly, it was at this point that the experience started to get sullied. I looked at the chuffing expensive bill and noticed I'd been charged for a couple of items I never had, so I called over the waiter and got them removed. Now I was slightly miffed. Despite that, my next recommendation awaited - the nearby village of Faliraki, as Lindos was on the complete opposite end of the island. For that, I needed a taxi. Sigh. After a 20-minute wait at a taxi rank just outside the city walls, two strangers and I were told to get in a minicab. Faliraki is 23 minutes away from Old Town, according to Google. When we got in, we were told "50 Euro for taxi", this later translated to "Everyone sharing this taxi pays 50 Euros each." 150 Euro, for a 23-minute journey. I'm not saying that every cab driver would try this, but if you're going to get a taxi, agree on a price beforehand, get a bus instead, or risk your mortgage. Rhodes, or rather, Old Town, was an incredible experience and one that I will never forget for both good and bad reasons. My hotel, The Ixian Grand & All Suites, was sensational, as were my trips out to places such as Old Town. It is, without question, stunning. An area of the world you will never likely stumble across again, with a fascinating history to back it up. But on the downside, it does have its problems. Old Town in the summer months is jam-packed with tourists which then births another problem, rip-offs. Amidst the many, many souvenir shops, bars and restaurants, you need to have your wits about you. But if you can manage that, I have no doubt the experience will be unforgettable, for the right reasons.

Love Island success story Sanam Harrinanan and Kai Fagan are set to get married on August 1 with the pair both jetting off to different parts of Spain for their stag and hen dos Love Island winner Sanam Harrinanan has jetted off to Ibiza with her friends and family for one last rodeo before she marries her reality TV fiancé Kai Fagan. One of only a handful of success stories from the ITV reality dating show, the couple got engaged in April last year. The 27-year-old social worker has shared details of her hen do on social media, where she's posted regularly from her Spanish getaway. The first day of her trip saw her and her pals dress up in a cowgirl theme, with the stunning bride-to-be wearing a white outfit and her party all in black. On the second day of her break abroad, the group dressed in a sunset theme, donning bright pink, red and orange colours for their outfits. They could be seen posing in front of palm trees and drinking cocktails as they excitedly celebrate Sanam's upcoming wedding. Following a life-drawing session, the group toasted Sanam with Love Island themed champagne flutes. Another post showed her asking her followers to rate their drawings, while another saw one of her party fall asleep at a bar table after all the excitement. Sanam and Kai, both 27, won the second winter series of Love Island in March 2023, with Kai getting down on one knee 13 months later in April last year. The proposal came as a complete shock to Sanam, who believed she was going on a normal date night in Cambridge. Kai, who is also enjoying his stag do in Barcelona, shared the news of their engagement on Instagram at the time. He wrote: "Introducing the next Mrs Fagan. "Beautiful, Caring, Loving and Smart are just some of the words that describe you. I love loving you, I love you and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." Sanam later updated her TikTok followers with a video, explaining she was told to dress "cute and warm" for their punting boat date night. She said: "So I'm currently about to get ready for a date night with Kai that he has set up that I know nothing about. "All I know is that I need to dress cute and warm. I'm getting ready in my mum's house, I'm in my old room." The former reality star, who has since returned to her day job as a social worker, admitted she didn't get many photos and videos of the big moment as it took her by surprise. She explained: "Okay, the biggest thing just happened! "We don't have many videos of the proposal but I did not expect or see this coming. I honestly thought it was just a random date night that Kai had put together but yeah, I am so shocked and happy!" After she said yes, the couple went for a romantic meal out together. They returned to a hotel room that was adorned with decorations, including balloons, petals and photos showing some of their best times together. Sanam added: "Did I just say yes to the cutest guy in the world?" The couple are set to get married next week on August 1.
