Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav got into a fiery debate in the assembly on Wednesday, over the voter list revision in the poll-bound state.
When Tejashwi questioned the exercise, Nitish, while defending the government's record, mocked him saying he is 'just a kid" and told him that he had left the Mahagathbandhan because he was not 'performing well" as the deputy chief minister.

'Your father was CM for seven years and then your mother was there…you were the deputy CM…what was the situation at that time? I was with you…but you were not performing well so I left…." Nitish Kumar said.
The personal attacks began when Tejashwi questioned the requirement of 11 documents for the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise. He asked how poor people will manage to provide so many documents.
In response, Nitish got agitated and reminded Tejashwi of his 'parents' tenure" and called him a 'kid". 'What are you talking about? Why are you speaking like this… Elections are coming up this year, and people will think about what to do. Our government has done a lot of work. These people just say anything for elections," he said.
He added: 'Did women ever get anything before? We've done a lot for women. RJD didn't do anything for Muslims. We've worked for Muslims. You're just a kid, what do you know? People used to not even step out of their homes in Patna in the evening. We'll go to the people with the work we've done."
WHAT DID TEJASHWI YADAV SAY?
Before the argument broke out, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav raised concerns over the SIR exercise, questioning its timing, impartiality, and feasibility, especially for the state's large migrant population.
'I asked for only four things. The voter list was first published in February, and after the Lok Sabha elections, a revision could have been done. Instead, they are rushing everything now. They are demanding 11 documents, which poor people do not have. Where will poor people get so many documents in just 25 days?" Tejashwi said.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) requires new voters to submit 11 documents, including identity proof, birth certificates, residence certificates, Aadhaar cards, and mobile numbers.
Tejashwi said this process will burden the poor, illiterate, and rural populations, potentially disenfranchising them. He highlighted the significant digital divide in the state, stressing on the need for practical considerations in implementing such processes.
He said the right to vote is a fundamental right in a democracy and urged the EC to be impartial. 'Lalu ji says that the right to vote is a fundamental right in a democracy. Our objection is not to the SIR itself, but the EC should work impartially; it has not held a press conference so far. Are the voters who cast their vote in the last Bihar election fake? Does it mean that Nitish Kumar became chief minister through fake means? Did Narendra Modi become PM through fake means? Did we also win elections through fake means?" he asked.

Send leaders empowered to take decisions for all-party meetings: LS Speaker

New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday urged leaders of political parties to send representatives who are empowered to take decisions to meetings for finalising the agenda for Parliament. Birla's remarks came as the opposition members sought an assurance from the government on discussion on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar after the conclusion of the debate on Operation Sindoor. The opposition members were in the Well of the House, raising slogans and seeking an assurance before the Lok Sabha took up the discussion on Operation Sindoor. Birla said that at the all-party meeting chaired by him last week, all leaders sought a discussion on Operation Sindoor, which was agreed to, and 16 hours were allocated for the same. 'There is something called commitment. Leaders of all parties had sought a discussion on Operation Sindoor and now you are in the Well of the House raising other issues," he said, addressing opposition members. 'You can't demand a discussion on any issue from the Well of the House. The House runs as per rules of procedure," Birla said. The Speaker told SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was on his feet demanding a discussion on SIR, to send a representative who is empowered to take decisions to the all-party meeting. 'If you are not empowered and if someone else has to take decisions, then such persons should not come to the all-party meetings," Birla said. The Lok Sabha was to take up a special discussion on 'India's strong, successful and decisive" Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam at 12 noon. However, when the House convened for the discussion, the opposition parties sought an assurance on the debate on SIR exercise in Bihar. Lok Sabha adjourned till 1 pm amid Opposition uproar over SIR

New Delhi July 28 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 1 pm, after members of the Opposition parties created a ruckus demanding discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR). When the House reconvened at 12 PM, the presiding officer, Krishna Prasad Tenneti, called for the laying of papers on the table. Meanwhile, protesting Opposition members entered the Well of the House, holding placards that read 'No SIR' and shouting slogans such as 'We want discussion on SIR.' Amid the commotion, papers were laid on the table. Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting members to return to their seats, reminding them that the House was scheduled to take up a discussion on Operation Sindoor. However, the sloganeering continued. Objecting to the conduct of the Opposition members, the Speaker said, 'First, you ask for a debate on Operation Sindoor, then you come into the Well of the House. If you truly wish to participate in the discussion, please go back to your seats.' He further asked, 'Do you want to discuss Operation Sindoor or not? Protesting in the Well of the House does not lead to a discussion. The discussion will happen only when you are seated in your chairs.' Despite repeated appeals, the Opposition members continued their protest, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1 PM. Earlier in the day, when the House convened, it was adjourned till 12 PM amid similar protests by the Opposition. UNI RBE AAB
