PDRM Urged To Take Firm Actions On Cable Thefts At ECRL Site
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he had contacted Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ask the PDRM to take stricter action.
He said the cable theft case cannot be considered an ordinary theft case because it affects public order and national security.
'I have asked the police to take action not only under the offence of theft.
'So, stricter action under stricter laws needs to be taken but I leave it to the police and the police's discretion to take action but we cannot consider this as ordinary theft,' he said in a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Loke said Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) would implement mitigation and security measures at all ECRL sites to curb cable theft cases.
MRL today expressed concern following the cable theft case which could affect the planning and train operation schedule of the ECRL project which is currently at a crucial phase ahead of completion in December 2026.
MRL chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said several incidents of cable theft were detected at certain locations along the ECRL line, across Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor.
The 665-kilometre ECRL project is the largest infrastructure project under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Malaysia is expected to improve transport networks and stimulate economic development on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

CYBERJAYA — The investigation into the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on April 1 was carried out independently and transparently, without any interference from the Selangor government, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He said the Selangor government was not directly involved in the investigation, but only served as one of the 212 witnesses. Amirudin said the focus now was on the special committee set up to study the report on the incident and recommend several measures to the state government. 'The reality is, the investigation was conducted completely independently, with no interference from the state government. 'I will make the investigation public once permission is obtained and (anyone) may review it to find out who is responsible and (the report) contains an explanation of that. 'We should not assume that there is interference in every matter. (Such) perceptions must be backed by clear and scientific evidence,' he said. Amirudin stressed that the state government had given the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) full space to carry out the investigation, including summoning witnesses such as the developer, security guards and excavator operators. '(At present) police investigations have found no evidence of negligence or foul play,' he said. Amirudin had earlier said that Selangor would establish a special committee to formulate long-term strategies and propose new regulations to prevent incidents such as the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights from recurring. Police have classified the gas pipeline explosion incident as No Further Action (NFA) following criminal investigations that found no elements of negligence or sabotage. 294 trainees complete police training at Pulapol Kuching

KUCHING (July 3): A total of 294 trainees have successfully completed their six-month basic training under the Police Constable Basic Training Programme (PLAK) at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today. Gracing the passing out parade was Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, who said the event not only marked the conclusion of their training but also the beginning of a lifelong duty to serve with honour and integrity as members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). According to Hamzah, the cohort comprises individuals from a variety of academic and skills backgrounds, including seven with the Malaysian Skills Certificate, 233 with the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), one with the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), 42 with the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), nine with diplomas, and two with other qualifications. 'This shows that the PDRM welcomes recruits from diverse academic and skill backgrounds, adding value to the force,' he said. Hamzah also highlighted the evolving challenges faced by the police today, noting that officers are now dealing with both conventional crimes such as robbery and theft and modern threats, including cybercrime, online scams, misinformation and social media slander. Over 5,000 police personnel deployed for ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has mobilised 5,121 personnel to secure the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related events at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from July 8 to 11. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim confirmed that comprehensive security measures are in place, including continuous monitoring and advanced technology such as facial recognition and explosives detection. 'PDRM has taken appropriate measures to ensure high preparedness ahead of this meeting, and the main focus is on the security of VIPs, traffic control and handling emergencies,' he said. The security operation involves multiple police units, including the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters, Federal Reserve Force, Special Operations Unit (UTK), 69 Commando, and Special Branch. Security will also cover key locations such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, and delegates' hotels. Restricted zones will be enforced to limit access. Azmi added that security training and simulations, including convoy drills and system tests, have been conducted to ensure smooth coordination.
