Michael J Fox will make comeback in Shrinking after stepping back from acting due to Parkinson's

Daily Mail17-05-2025
is making an acting comeback in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking after he he stepped back from the profession after his 1991 Parkinson's diagnosis.
The Back To The Future star, 63, last acted when he reprised his Good Wife character, Louis Canning, in the 2020 spinoff The Good Fight.
But he will now make a return to the screen for the third season of the Emmy-nominated show which stars Jason Segal and Harrison Ford.
Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola and Isabella Gomez, will also join the cast. It's not yet known which character Fox will play.
But emotional fans took to social media to share their delight over the news amid the star's health woes.
'My admiration for this man has no limits! I'm happy to see him acting again,' one fan gushed in a Reddit post announcing the news.
They continued: 'Having Parkinson's disease in my immediate family, I appreciate how much he has done for raising awareness of the disease, and I have enjoyed how he has incorporated the disease into his acting. Looking forward to seeing what he will be doing in Shrinking.'
'Good for him! Excited to see him,' wrote another.
'With how well Shrinking balances its humor with gut-punch moments, I wouldn't be surprised if Fox really puts his soul into his character and makes it feel cathartic,' chimed in someone else.
'Oooh! Love the show and this is really cool news. I can see him fitting into the cast very well,' another enthused fan wrote.
Shrinking follows widowed and grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel) who begins to break the rules and tells his clients exactly what he thinks.
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people's lives, including his own.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 at age 29 while filming Doc Hollywood, after experiencing a sore shoulder and twitching finger. The actor went public with his diagnosis in 1998.
Fox previously worked with Shrinking's co-creator Bill Lawrence on ABC's Spin City. However, he left after Season 4 in 2000 after his Parkinson's symptoms worsened.
The dad-of-four also featured in a two-episode arc Scrubs, another Lawrence-led series, where he played a genius doctor with severe OCD.
Fox has said the disease prompted him to largely retire from acting, devoting more time to spending time with his family and working for his foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds research and the search for a Parkinson's disease cure.
Fox starred as teenager Marty McFly in the science fiction movie Back to the Future in 1985, as well as in the sequels Back to the Future Part II (in 1989) and Back to the Future III (in 1990).
He played Alex P. Keaton on Family Times from 1982 until 1989.
Earlier in the month, the actor announced his fifth memoir. The book, co-written with Nelle Fortenberry, is called Future Boy: Back to the Future and My Journey Through the Space-Time Continuum, and is set to drop in the fall.
The memoir will focus on the year 1985, which is when Michael was working on both Back to the movie Future and the series Family Ties - as well as years before he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
'As we approach the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, my thoughts turn to my adventures as a younger man,' he told People.
'This book has basically become a time machine for me, but unlike the DeLorean, there's plenty of room for anyone who'd like to climb in for the ride,' he added.
The book will also be released the same year as the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, which catapulted him to fame in 1985.

BREAKING NEWS Caitlyn Jenner's pal Sophia Hutchins cause of death revealed after horrific accident in Malibu

Caitlyn Jenner 's late friend Sophia Hutchins died at the age of 29 in a horror ATV accident in Malibu. Hutchins' life was cut short on July 2 after she plunged 350 feet down a cliff on the vehicle after she was believed to have struck a car bumper. On Wednesday her cause of death was shared. A death certificate from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, which was obtained by People, shows Hutchins died from 'multiple blunt force injuries.' The case remains open, but her manner of death has been 'ruled an accident.' The reality TV star will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Los Angeles on July 24. Hutchins was featured heavily in the reality series, I Am Cait. The series ran for just two seasons but it gave glimpses into Jenner and Hutchins' unorthodox life together. Later Sophia became the CEO and director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation. Caitlyn Jenner 's late friend Sophia Hutchins died at the age of 29 in a horror ATV accident in Malibu. Hutchins was killed on July 2 after she plunged 350 feet down a cliff on the vehicle after she was believed to have struck a car bumper In 2017, Hutchins moved into Jenner's home and began working as the star's manager in 2015. Before that Kris Jenner managed Caitlyn. sources revealed that after striking the car's bumper, the impact forced the ATV and Hutchins ended up 'plummeting 350ft down into a ravine.' First responders pronounced Hutchins dead at the scene. Investigators told that she was believed to have been speeding in the 2013 Polaris ATV, and was 'side by side' a Mazda when she rear-ended the car. The impact caused the ATV to veer off the cliff off the winding mountainous road in Malibu. The two individuals in the car struck by Hutchins and the ATV were not injured. Hutchins was in Jenner's inner circle for over a decade after she came out as a transgender woman in 2015. The case remains open, but her manner of death has been ruled an accident; seen in 2019 Hutchins met Caitlyn that year and appeared in multiple episodes of the television documentary series I Am Cait, a spin-off of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved', insisting it was all about work and friendship. 'Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship,' Sophia said. In 2020, Sophia posed for an online ad campaign for Kim Kardashian's highly successful clothing line SKIMS. Sophia was particularly close to Kris Jenner, speaking to her regularly, and Hutchins also had a good relationship with Jenner's daughters Kendall, 29, and Kylie, 27. The siblings once gave Sophia a stunning heart-shaped diamond necklace for Christmas. 'I'm on good terms with all the family, but I'm closest with Kris, Kim, Kylie and Kendall', Sophia said. The tragedy comes nine years after Jenner was involved in a fatal car crash while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The collision involved four cars and resulted in the death of Kim Howe, 70. Jenner was not charged in the crash, but an investigation by the LA County Sheriff's Office determined that Caitlyn was driving too fast. That opened her up to blame in civil lawsuits, which was later settled out of court. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved' with each other — a sentiment that pair have repeated over the years. 'I don't feel a need to address my sex life, quite frankly, unless I want to,' Sophia sternly told the outlet at the time.

Duck Dynasty star has 'unbelievable' health comeback... two months after death of 'soulmate' Phil Robertson

Duck Dynasty star Miss Kay has made an 'unbelievable' health comeback two months after her husband Phil Robertson 's heartbreaking death. The TV personality, 77, was 'depressed' after her partner of 60 years passed away on May 20 at the age of 79 due to a battle with Alzheimer's. Last month in June, her son Willie revealed that she was 'not in the best of health' as she mourned the loss of her husband and Duck Dynasty monarch. However, he recently joined wife Korie to offer a positive update on his mother during an interview with Fox News Digital published on Wednesday. 'She is doing so much better. It's unbelievable how she made the turn. I think she was just really kind of depressed after Phil passed away,' Willie told the outlet. 'You know, you've been with somebody for 60 years, over 60 years, so just losing her soulmate and she is getting older.' Willie added that his mother had been 'struggling' with Phil's death but has since 'bounced back, and she just went to church. I think she's going out of town this weekend. She's traveling more. She's on our show.' Korie also expressed how Miss Kay made an appearance on the Duck Call Room podcast this month as 'a proof of life video.' She further said that Kay has 'been with us for a few things that we've been filming this week. So that's been really special. 'And, you know, that's a special part about our show. We feel like it's just getting to do it with our family and getting to spend that time together.' Willie also reflected on his father's passing and stated, 'We were just happy knowing that he's gone on to be with the Lord, and he was so secure in that. 'That's pretty much all he talked about his whole life was whenever it ended, the faith and hope that he had. 'Also with Alzheimer's - the bad part is you have to watch them go down, but I think it does prepare you and I think she may have been even in denial, you know, like that it was actually gonna happen.' Willie explained that Kay 'just had to deal with it' but 'stuck close to the family.' The reality star continued, 'We were all there and all around her, and she was with different family members and just took care of her friends and the relationships she had.' He then expressed gratitude that his mother is able to have 'brighter days' but admitted not having his father around has left 'a big void.' 'And I know them two were so together in pretty much everything that they did, so I know it was hard for her.' Last month in June shortly after Phil's death, Willie candidly shared to USA Today Network that Kay was 'not in the best of health' and loved ones are 'trying to help her out as much as we can.' And in April before her husband's death, Jase Robertson had also opened up about Kay's health on an episode of the Unashamed With The Robertson Family podcast. 'She got an infection from a fall from a cut that had happened earlier,' he said at the time. 'We were dealing with the fact that maybe this is it.' Earlier this month, Kay made a surprise appearance on the Duck Call Room podcast where she said, 'I'm tired of being dead.' Al Robertson - who was also on the episode - opened up about false AI reports about his mother's and Si Robertson's deaths. 'Tales of your demise have been greatly exaggerated, 'cause you're here today. So this is the proof of life video,' he said. They also reflected on Phil's passing, with Al saying, 'Obviously this was an hard deal for all of us, but it was especially hard for Mom.' He then brought up the moment when Kay went back to church for the first time since her husband's death - and how she had shocked how others told her how well she looked. 'She said, "I'm tired of people saying how good I look. My husband just died. It's not like I'm back on the market."' Al added, 'I was like, Mom, they're not saying, "Do you wanna date?" they're saying, "You look amazing."' But Kay chimed in with, 'Well, I thought I should look sad.' Nearly two months earlier, Phil's family issued a statement on Facebook to announce Phil's death after a battle with Alzheimer's in his final months. 'We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,' Willie's daughter-in-law Korie had written. 'Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus.' She then added, 'We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.' In the months leading up to Phil's passing, both the late star and wife Kay had been residing at the same facility together, which Jase explained on the podcast. 'My dad's not doing great overall, and my mom is not doing great physically. She has to have pretty much 24/7 professional healthcare, but my dad, it's like .. he's been so much calmer since she came back.' He continued, 'They're in a facility where there are other people, but they have their own little private room - it's great - and so, they're helping each other, so that's been positive.' Other family members jumped to social media to pay tribute to Phil such as Willie and Jep Robertson, and the late star's granddaughter Sadie. Sadie recently revealed the last words her grandfather had told her on Instagram and said: 'One of the last things he said to me was "full strength ahead!" Amen!' It came after she also shared a Bible verse which read: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come – 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬.' The media personality continued, 'As I was sitting with Papaw Phil today, I thought about this verse… he has already experienced this on earth - going from dead to alive by the power of Christ! 'It was his testimony that changed his life, our families life, and thousands of others. Now he is experiencing it in the fullness. Fully alive in Christ. The new has come.'
